Re: A Sight to See
"Yeah. . . I need to work on my brain keeping up with my actions" Draylen decided, sighing and running his free hand through his shaggy brown hair, taking a sip of his coffee once his hand was back at his side. "What about them could scare you?" he asked, laughing slightly. It would be weird to see Nathaniel jumping at him because he was scared of his tarot cards. "Uhm, I have no idea. Wander?" he suggested, not sure what else to do. Most of the mall was okay with him, the occasional spirit, and most of them were friendly enough, save for the Starbucks one and one in the men's bathroom on the main floor.
Re: A Sight to See
"Dunno, maybe they'll attack me one day or something," Nathaniel said, shrugging. He was joking, but still, maybe his cards would do something out of the ordinary some day. He was hoping for that, he was admittedly jealous that some people had stronger abilities than him, like Draylen, for instance. Maybe he could learn how to see them if he stuck around Draylen for a bit. He wouldn't bet on it, but maybe he'd even make a real American friend. "Wandering is fine. Where would you want to go? Just, around?" He liked taking time to look at what stores had, especially because he got bored with seeing what the store he worked at only had.
Re: A Sight to See
"Well that would be rather unfortunate" Draylen laughed, wondering if that would be possible, even if Nathaniel was kidding. "We could wander, and check out whatever stores on the way if you want" his bright green eyes glanced up to the reader, waiting to see the reaction to his suggestion. He kept walking a steady pace, his head clearing now that he was away from the ghost's anger, but he could still feel it, distant or not.
Re: A Sight to See
"I don't mind anything. You can lead the way if you know where or what you want to look at," he told the other boy. He could go anywhere and be more or less amused, mostly because he had company, and it also definitely helped that he wanted to get to know his company this time around. "Is there any shop you favor in this place?" he asked, not sure he had any favorites. He knew where he didn't want to go. Female stores, kid stores, and A&F. Most of the stores let a drink in as long as they weren't rambunctious.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen nodded, thinking of where he wanted to go. He had a few stores in the mall that he liked to go to whenever he could, mainly the music store, and a few of the clothing stores, normally avoiding anything that could attract the massive female population. "I like to go to HMV, and West 49" he shrugged, naming off the two he went to most often. He occasionally dipped into American Eagle, only because he liked their sweaters, and he was always quick, the gossiping little girls irking him enough while at work.
((dunno if they have some of those stores in the US, but New York often has Canadian stores, so close to the border and all))

((I don't think I've heard of the first one, the second sounds familiar, and of course the last one I've been to once))
"We can go there, if you like," he said, knowing two of three of the stores Draylen was talking about. "We can check those out and then look for whatever else is around then." He wanted the bookstore, which he could wait for until they were done looking. No matter where they went though, there would always be plenty of females to hit on him. They were all annoying no matter where he went, but some of the ones at the bookstore were smart enough to get the hint when he really didn't want their number.

Re: A Sight to See
((its our music store))
"Alright" Draylen nodded, sticking his free hand in his pocket and draining the last of his coffee, more relaxed now as he tossed the cup in a garbage can as he passed. He knew the way around the mall perfectly, so he turned the next corner, heading in the direction of West. He knew how to snowboard, but didn't go very often, causing a bunch of kids he knew to tell him that he shouldn't shop there, but he didn't exactly see the point. "How old are you anyways?" he asked curiously, looking up at Nathaniel and tilting his head to the side, which he had a habit of doing.

Re: A Sight to See
"Old enough to be legal, young enough to be your brother," he replied, though he had just turned legal, so the question was meant to draw him away from thinking he was 21. He did look a bit young for his age, come to think about it. What could he say? He'd hit puberty late. He was a good height for 21, but he was kind of hoping he might get just a bit taller. He'd been tall for his age as a kid, maybe at ten years old, but now as a legal adult, he was on the shorter side of things. It could be worse, he saw people in the college short enough to be middle schoolers.
Re: A Sight to See
"Umm. . . that gives me a range of somewhere in your 20's" Draylen bit the inside of his lip, trying to figure it out by looking at him. If he was legal, it had to be over 21, but he couldn't be that much older. Nathaniel was taller than he was by a few inches, and looked maybe a bit older than him. "Uhh. . . 21?" he guessed, picking the youngest age first, figuring it had to be close enough. He had expected a staight answer, but this would work too, he supposed.
Re: A Sight to See
"Hm, people don't usually guess it that fast," Nathaniel said with a shrug and flipping his hair. "Then again, maybe I should be putting a lower number range for what I'm older than." Old enough to drive but young enough to... Maybe he'd keep the brother thing. Brothers could range from any age, really. "You sound so unsure, I guess you don't think I look like I'm over 20 then, also, huh?" He didn't mind, he got it a lot from girls younger than him thinking he was just within their age limit. The ones in school thought he was in their high school sometimes. He always knew when they were going to flirt when they asked if they saw him at school.
Re: A Sight to See
"I was right?" Draylen asked, surprised. "Well you look around my age, maybe a bit older, so it's not that bad" he shrugged, not finding it much of a big deal. He was nineteen, so he was within a few years of Nathaniel's age with his estimate before he had asked. "How old do I look?" he asked, never really having thought of that. He was himself, he wasn't ugly or anything, and that was all he cared about. The rest he didn't pay attention to much, unlike girls who obsessed over every little detail on themselves.
Re: A Sight to See
"That settles it, I'm changing the maximum age limit," Nathaniel said. He looked Draylen over when he was asked how old the other looked. He had the hint of Draylen saying he looked his age. He had a few bits of information on his home life, like living with his parents and having to pay rent. He didn't know how long that had been going on, so that didn't help much. He was obviously old enough to drive and be out of school. He had to be under twenty five and over eighteen. "I'd have to guess eighteen or nineteen. Twenty would be the limit I'd guess at." He would have to really stretch to see twenty on this kid, but it was believable anyway.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen waited as Nathaniel looked him over, not wanting to admit that he liked the attention. He nodded when the older male made his guess, which was pretty accurate. "Nineteen" he said, nodding. "I probably won't even look twenty for a few years" he made a face, knowing that his height was a bit shorter than it should be at his age, just under six feet, but he dealt with it. His face was only starting to mature, pulling him out of his teenaged appearance slowly.
Re: A Sight to See
"I guess I can see it once you've mentioned it," Nathaniel commented, studying Draylen's face. "I guess you must like being out of school, which was last year for you, huh?" Nathaniel had been out of school for about two years after leaving high school, then went back at age twenty, pretty much last year. He liked the college for the most part. The teachers paid attention to the students and helped when the students needed it. Half the students were really trying, and the rest tried, but liked goofing off more. It was only community college, anyway.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen nodded, looking down to the floor for a moment before around at the people, navigating his way through to get to the stores he liked. "Yeah" he grinned, "I miss a lot of my friends though. I don't get to see most of them now that they're all off in different places at university" he shrugged, finding that the only bad thing about being out of school. And now that his parents could charge him rent. But he was fine with working for a living, even if it was at A&F.
Re: A Sight to See
"I'm not sure if I'll go straight to a higher college when I'm done in two years excluding the one I'm in now, right away." He might be back in England by then, he didn't know. Something made him want to stick around to see what happened here, while the other part of him wanted to go back home where it was very blatantly better for him. "Bugger," Nathaniel muttered, moving away from a group of teenagers not looking where they were going. They didn't care who they walked into, it was never their fault, as they claimed.
Re: A Sight to See
"Yeah? It'd be kind of cool to do that. I'd like to live in a dorm or something, even for just a week. See what it's like, you know?" Draylen looked back up to Nathaniel, tilting his head. He watched as the older boy was forced to move out of the way of the group, some of which he recognized from the school he had attended. He laughed slightly, unable to help himself. "Your slang is kinda funny. No offense" he explained, grinning. He was used to American slang, so this British stuff was interesting.
Re: A Sight to See
"I say our slang is more intellectual than your slang here. You have such rubbish you make up!" Nathaniel said, laughing. He had never heard of such words until America hit him. Britain's language and slang sounded twice as intelligent as any of America's slang did, especially when it was meant to hurt their feelings. "Ours relate to things, you seem to chop up words or spontaneously create new ones to mean something that sounds nothing like it." America was confusing, why did people keep making up new slang if foreigners didn't understand it?
Re: A Sight to See
"Hmm, this is true" Draylen accepted, nodding. "But making up words and such is fun" he added, running a hand through his hair. "I don't use the most strange slang, but hearing people repeat things over and over, it tends to stick in your vocabulary" he shrugged. That was how most slang spread like a wildfire, the social lives of people spreading things in days. "I could make up a word right now, start using it, and in a day or two it would be a common term" he had thought about trying that once, just to see what happened, but couldn't come up with anything original enough.
Re: A Sight to See
"Well, I'm not sure it would be that short of time, but maybe over time, sure." The British had polite slang and impolite slang, or at least less polite than the polite stuff was. "We've got things like, the bee's knees, and another meaning being dog's bollocks." There was arse over elbow, and arse over tit, either way they meant the same thing when used in about any sentence. The latter of the two obviously being the less polite one, Nathaniel didn't usually say it that often.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen gave a shrug, knowing he had been using a bit of an exaggeration, but it was pretty close. Maybe a few weeks. He laughed at the examples of British slang, his hair falling into his face as he did so. He brushed it back as he looked up at Nathaniel. "What do those even mean?" he asked, giving him a curious look. Those sounded rather ridiculous to him, but he assumed to the British it would be completely normal. Most of the American slang made no sense unless you actually thought about it, but he couldn't think of anything that made sense for things like the bee's knees.
Re: A Sight to See
"Bee's knees is something like, fancy that, or it's cool. Dog's bollocks is something like that, only, not very polite. It goes with the thing of saying how much a dog likes his balls." He shrugged. So not all of them were very clean, slang with the American's was the same way, just, not all of them referred to how much animals liked their privates. There were ups and downs to all languages he supposed. English language being very complicated in how many words it had. "What does some of your slang mean?" he asked, though he probably wouldn't remember it later.
Re: A Sight to See
"Ahh. That's. . . interesting" Draylen bit back a laugh, wondering where people came up with that. He couldn't imagine a common slang term having to do with a dog liking it's balls. "Havn't you picked any up from living here?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. He was a bit confused with that, since slang seemed to stick soo fast with some people, regardless of how long they had lived there. "Well, if someone calls you 'beat', punch them, because it's calling you ugly" he shrugged. He wouldn't actually punch somebody, but others would.
Re: A Sight to See
Shrugging, Nathaniel cocked his head to the word beat. He was pretty sure beat meant to hurt someone. He had never heard it used as ugly, and he was positive that the word beat related in no way to the word ugly. "Err, I can't pick up your slang here because I don't understand it or don't like it," he explained, though he would admit that the American slang was curious and confusing. He kind of liked hearing words of what they meant. He would get confused and just a little ticked, but he was fine otherwise.
Re: A Sight to See
"Alot of it can be hard to pick up on, but once I know the meaning, and how it's used, hearing everybody else use it kind of adapts it into my vocabulary" Draylen explained, knowing most of it made no sense. "Like. . . swag is style, how someone presents themselves kinda. Like, biker swag would be certain brands that someone who likes BMXing and such would wear, etc." he provided this as another example, one he understood well through highschool.
