Anna smiled some. She was beginning to like the queen even more now. She had a lot of heart. Although some of her noble court men seemed to have things under her nose from time to time. She would have to help with that. Anna was not one to stand by and let a friend fall on the sword for them. And that is exactly how she saw the Queen. A new good friend of hers to look after. She just hoped that the fairy clans would not hear about her helping the queen. The fairies we're not exactly known for being nice to someone they label as an outcast. She follows the Queen calmly. Keeping her eyes down.

"Looks like she fooled a lot of people." he chuckled. "She is not what one would expect of a queen, well what I would. I think there will be a shake up here and there now. Her eyes has been opened to somethings and she will strive to make changes and not stop until they are done."

He turned and offered an arm to escort her to the palace. it would be her first time there and for a very differant reason then most. He wondered what she had in store for him and the others. He was after all a thief, one that could not steal from those in the city that he had been stealing from. Hopefully soon those would be brought to her in chains and their crimes made known.

A figure sat in the shadows of dimly lit room in a fairly large building on the Plains. "A fool." he said to another man standing in the middle of the room. "He was a fool to do what he had done. Thinking he could raise a dragon to do his bidding. He actually though he had a chance to be the King if he succeeded."

"Yes he was not the type to have rulled, but to manipulate with thoughts of grandure." the man in the middle of the room said with a grin. "So what of the young dragon and its parents."

"On their way back home. The young one will keep them on the ground for now in their humanoid forms. These forms are more weaker then their dragon form. What would not affect them as dragons will effect them in this form. Capture the parents and the hatchling. Use them to force the young dragon to obey. She is still esential in our plan to bring about the downfall of the Queen and her brother."

The man in the middle nodded. "It will be done. I will send our finest assassins to capture them." he turned to go.

"What of the dark elf that foiled the plan." the man in shadows asked.

The man in the center of the room shook his head. "It appears he has become a favorite of the Queen. He exposed the plot and the fool human. It looks as if he will become a guest in the palace. He is of no concern though, he knows nothing of what is going on."

"Perhaps. Only time will truely tell." the fugure in the shadow tapped a staff on the floor and disapeared."

Marthur, hearing there was a feast in his honor, grew a large smile on his face. "I shall meet you all there, I must go grab something at my shop!" He shouted hurrying off to his shop and running upstairs to his quarters. Marthur opened a large chest and grabbed his Brotherhood Ceremonial robe. It was a magnificent dark blue robe that resembled the night sky, glimmering with stars and the moon. The hood was laced with gorgeous silver thread. He then grabbed a large silver cased amulet with a large sapphire pendant. This was truly a good opportunity to represent his Circle and increase his influence.
Arriving at the feast he was surly attracting attention. Walking with his crystal staff and robes, many folks new what he was. Some feared him, some hated, few liked, but Marthur was on a mission to prove himself to the rest of the hierarchy.
As the feast ran more and more people were asking the friendly mage questions. "Where are you from? Is it true their a cult? How powerful are you? Can you show us your magic?" Marthur was eager to answer, but he was noticing there skepticism in his true abilities. So he started to show them.
"You see, in my circle, we start learning magic quite young. As soon as we can read and write. My parents taught me to read and when they thought I was ready, they asked if I wanted to join. Not every child bread by our members want to learn our knowledge, very few opt to live mundane lives. Once you join they teach you about mana, the force that allows mortals to conjure magic. We believe mana live in every living thing, this is why centaurs and dragons can cast magic. They have natural senses of mana that we don't." Marther started to conjure small spheres of blazing fire and started to toss them in the air, juggling them in an acrobatic display of dancing and magic.
The crowds reaction varied from spooked gasps to entertained astonishment. One thing was for sure, every on looker was impressed.
Soon the sphere's formed together above his to a long serpent-like dragon, wrapping around him like a snake.
"We learn to conjure and control mana like it's a part of our body. And like your muscles; the more you exercise and practice, the stronger and easier it is." Marthur said continuing his wonderful displays of magic.

As the procession made careful way up Serin towards the palace, many more people came out to see the spectacle.  Many of those people had suffered under Fargas and his rabble of misfits and when they saw his dead body being paraded, they began to come out and spit on him.  To spit over someone's corpse in Serin was a huge insult to them and to those connected with them.  As such, it was reserved for only the very worst of criminals.  The centaur guard carrying him made no motion to keep them back as they began to line up and spit on Fargas.  A few drops of it hit the centaur, but he knew it wasn't aimed at him and he kept his head high.  However, none of this happened until they had first bowed their heads in respect to Frae and Mikal and then those with them.  Even San Riel was treated to this kind of respect and then several whispers of his heritage that would never again be uttered about him.  Yes, he was Dark Elf, considered the most heinous and deadly race of Elf, being honoured by the Queen and the Regent, to walk with them as an equal and respected.  One may not realise it at the time, but such an act to him spoke volumes of the change already taking place in Serin.

Eventually, the procession reached the palace and waiting at the gates with expectation, was the Dragon family.  Frae lowered her head and bowed to them in respect in full view of the people now following them to the gates.  "With great respect."  She said to them, her head still down, "I bring you the bodies of those responsible for the heinous kidnapping of your daughter."
The father looked over the bodies of Fargas and Lampard and then lifted his chin with pride.  "You have honoured your promise, Queen Darkheart."  He told her formally, "I offer you my thanks and that of my mate and hatchling."
"I humbly accept your gratitude."  Frae said and then lifted her head to the Dragon.  She then turned it to San Riel and nodded for him to come forward.  "But I feel this Elf deserves it more than I.  It was he that discovered the crime and it was he that has put right the mistake I made in accusing him."  She then pointed her hand to Anna, "And this young Fae."  She said with a smile, "Her magic in using crystals helped us track down the real villains.  She was able to show us the faces of Fargas and Lampard of which San Riel could only describe.  The mage also, Marthur Mystic, though he is not presently here.  His scrying, I believe is the term, enabled the images to be seen in the Fae's crystals by all the Regent's guard.  The way I see it, I merely passed judgement on the evidence and counsel of these people, my Lord."
"As you wish."  The male Dragon said and then turned to San Riel and Anna.  "I give you my thanks for your honourable deeds this day."  He bowed his head slightly.  "I will see to it that you and your mage friend are greatly rewarded for your efforts.  When Serin enters our lands for the winter, I shall offer you each ten of my own scales to do with as you wish."  This was considered a great honour as Dragon scales were highly valued and if given freely, were considered priceless.  Such an offer would set them all up for life and then some.  Even Frae's own family treasury was not that rich!  As the offer was made, Frae nodded and smiled proudly and bowed her head again in respect.  No offer was made to her at all and she made no mention of it either.  The final act from the Dragon came as he and his mate shed their human disguise in the courtyard.  He took up the bodies of Fargas and Lampard, removed their heads and took to the skies with his prize.  His mate and his daughter followed suit, though the young female blew smoke at San Riel in affection before joining her parents.

After all was said and done and the remains of the convicted fed to the massive dragonflies that protected the city, Frae made her way to her private rooms to change and get ready for the feast.  The grand dining hall was cleared and tables set up to accommodate guests and staff.  There would be music and games for any who wanted distraction and Frae had no doubt Marthur would wish to entertain.  He seemed that sort to her.  And it also seemed that it would be a dressed affair.  After all, San Riel, Anna and Marthur Mystic were to be honoured for halting what would have been the devastating wrath of the Ice Dragons.  Such an occasion commanded the appropriate respect and etiquette.

Porters arrived to take Anna and San Riel to the royal wing of the palace to get them settled and several servants began arriving to place things needed and do what was asked of them.  Each of their rooms held a number of smaller rooms for their needs.  A large bedroom with an equally large canopy bed and fresh linen, a small private study and sitting room.  Each also had a fine bathroom with running hot and cold water with a large sunken bath and a well stocked assortment of soaps and fragrances and a stuffed linen closet.  Each was set out to make the guest as comfortable and happy as possible and each also came with their own cleaning servants and a valet, or a lady's maid for the women.  Hot baths were drawn and new clothes were laid out along with their attire for the evening's festivities.  The rest of the palace was alive with activity make it a memorable experience.

Anna was given a fine ball gown made of satin and lace, edged with jewels that would enhance her fairy glow (don't know her natural colour, so leaving that to you).  The gown came with slippers and gloves and a fine tiara of diamonds and the mountain's own mined crystals that would change colour depending on Anna's choice.  The rest of her wardrobe, should she want it, consisted of both day clothes and evening wear and a dresser with jewellery to match.

San Riel's attire for the evening was that of a nobleman.  Pressed black trousers and a high collared starched white shirt with cravat, a royal blue waistcoat and black dress jacket.  He had new leather boots that gave a high shine from the polish and an equally fine scabbard with rapier with an ornate silver hilt.  The finished outfit also came with a short cape also in royal blue with a jewelled finish on the hem and collar that one wore over one shoulder and beneath the other and a fine hat with black and blue feathers to one side.  The rest of his wardrobe also contained a selection of day and evening wear should he wish to keep.  On his dresser were a selection of bottles containing a more masculine scent should he wish and a fine silver pocket watch along with combs and brushes and several coloured lengths of ribbon for his white hair.

Though Marthur was not offered the rooms on the understanding he already had a home and business in the city, the new wardrobe and such would be when he arrived.  And Mina was also offered the same along with several pounds of gold and silver for her part in bringing down Fargas and Lampard.  But in addition, Mina would also be offered a full pardon for any crimes of smuggling and would be honoured among her friends as a crusader for the freedom of Dark Elf.  She would hold an honorary place within the palace and a script to enable her to continue her work should she choose to do so.

In her own rooms, Frae began to prepare for the evening.  She bathed thoroughly and then preened her wings before going into her dressing area to get ready.  Her own gown was somewhat simpler than perhaps Anna's or Mina's, but it was to her taste and style.  The backless gown consisted of a simple white bodice with black diamond buttoning and edging and a full black satin skirt with netting underneath for body.  she also had high gloves and simple black satin slippers with a small heel.  Her jewellery was simple also, a short chain of black diamonds with a 'V' of more that ended just before her cleavage.  Her hair was done in such a way as to leave most of it free down her back and between her wings, but with the top half twisted up to support her small crown of platinum.

By the time Frae made it back downstairs, the party was in full swing so to speak.  Marthur had made his entrance it seemed and was already entertaining the guests with his magical tricks and tales of the Magi.  She noticed that he wore his Circle's colours and insignia with pride and she bowed her head to him in respect as she entered the room.  She also saw Mina, who looked utterly stunning in her ball gown of soft yellow.  Her yellow Fae glow made her look a vision and she was surrounded by potential suitors, eager to dance and talk with her.  The shock of before had worn off now and as Frae nodded to her friend, she nodded back with a proud smile.  Grace and her father were also there in their finest armours and quickly called everyone's attention to the entrance of the Queen.  Frae smiled and bowed her head to Grace's father and then winked at Grace herself, who laughed and winked back.

As the female Centaur gained everyone's attention, Mikal, stood in his finest uniform turned and bowed his head to his sister.  It had been a while since he'd seen her in such finery.  Once raised again, Mikal lifted his head high, "Her Highness, Queen Frae Darkheart!"  He called and then bowed again as everyone else did.  In return, Frae bowed her heads to those present and then carefully entered.  As yet, she did not see San Riel or Anna and wondered where they were.  Etiquette pleased, Mikal came forward and smiled proudly at Frae.  "You look a true vision."  He told her.
"As do you, dear Brother."  She replied, nodding to his pressed and polished uniform.  "Have Anna and San Riel been introduced yet?"
Mikal shook his head, "I haven't seen them yet."  He said honestly, "But I'm looking forward to seeing the young Fae certainly.  I would very much like to dance with her.  Your first dance should be with the Dark Elf, I think."
"I don't know about that."  Frae said warmly, "He might have his eye on another, Mina perhaps."
"As you wish."  Mikal said and began to lead her through the guests, his arm up and her hand over the back of his and his head high......

San Riel went with the servants to the quarters assigned to him. The place was much larger then his modest dwelling in the city. Here he found his to servants that still would not leave him. He embrased them both and then went about getting ready for the grand event going on downstairs. First a much needed bath. It felt good to be rid of the stain to his skin and hair, plus the heat of the bath was very relaxing.

Once done there he combed his hair. It was shoulder length and needed it. Then came the clothes. He loved the pants and the shirt and the boots, but he had never been one for a waist coat or a top coat. The rapier he belted on and drew it. It was not a show piece but an actual well made weapon. The silver hilt just made it look even better. Instead of the short cloak he put on a longer one. It did not have the hood but a slightly stiff collar and lapel look (Count Daracula look). He looked at himself in the mirror. He looked roguish but yet noble at the same time. With out the waist coat and over coat, he was a lot more comfortable as well. To finish it off he put on a silver head band that kept his hair from falling in front of his face. It went across the center of his forehead and around the back of his head.

"What do you think?" he asked his to servents.

Darvus laughed, "A definately noble sir."

Tauras shook his head, "Yes but roguish as well. Quite handsome as well.

San laughed. He wondered if the queen would see him as that. She facinated him now. So unlike any queen he had known in the underdark. All they thought about was themselves and nothing more. Ahhhh but he would be a fool to even think she would have anthing to do with the likes of him. He was a commoner and she a queen. With a deep sigh, he looked again at himself.

He walked down to the banquet and stood in the door looking around at all the nobility and such. He was a bit nervous, his heritiage still in his mind. He looked across at the queen and took in a deep breath. Damn she was beautiful, and she looked every inch a queen.

When he was noticed all stopped and the room quieted as they all looked at him. He was introduced and as he came down the stairs into the room he was greeted by a number of the nobles. He saw the General and smiled, "Looking good General." he said to him and moved on seeing Marthur in his fine robes showing others small feats of magic. He walked straight up to where the queen and regent was. There he went to one knee and said, "You look radient and very beautiful your highness."

Anna walked into the rooms she was given by Frae still going over the day’s events in her head. They helped the queen solve a kidnapping case. The dragons offered ten of their scales as thanks. No one would ever believe that a mud blood like her would do anything of the sort. The servants insisted on helping her undress and put on the dress the queen chose for her. The servants were fine with that but they saw the deep burn marks and other scars that covered her back. One servant asks, “What happen to you?” Anna says, “Years of being tortured by the fairy queen.”

When Anna was given a fine ball gown made of satin and lace, edged with jewels that would enhance her fairy glow of blue, she jumped up and down with joy. She had never been able to wear something with fancy in her whole life. Of course even though she was princess by blood, she was made into her stepmother’s punching bag. She was forced to wear the rags of a fairy servant. The gown came with slippers and gloves. The slippers made her taller and she easily walked in them. The fine tiara of diamonds and the mountain's own mined crystals that would change color depending on her choice, felt heavy. But she showed no sign of unease.

She walks in the room of the feast with her head held high. She could see many of her kind down there, but she did not falter. She walks down to the party with a smile. A fairy noble throws their drink into her face. “How dare you come here mud blood! A bastard child like you should not be here! King’s blood or not!”

Things had been going incredibly well so far and both Mikal and Frae were highly pleased with the efforts made on everyone's behalf.  Not long after Frae had taken her place at the head of the main table, San Riel was introduced and Frae turned to see him come into the room formerly.  "Oh my!"  She breathed, taking in the sight of him.  Gone was the stains and the dirt and the old woollen cloak that made him look so raffle-like.
Mikal picked up on it and smiled to his sister.  "Frae?"
Frae righted herself again and smiled at her brother, "I'm fine."  She said, covering her lie rather badly.  San Riel then made a beeline for them and dropped to one knee.  She felt a slight flush in her neck as he complimented her beauty and she smiled almost embarrassed.  With a slight cough, she bowed into a deep graceful curtsy, "As do you, my noble Lord."  She said with genuine flattery.  As she rose again, something caught her attention and she smiled once more.  Mikal also spotted this and suddenly straightened his uniformed jacket.  Anna had finally arrived.  "Beautiful."  Frae said.
"Stunning."  Mikal said in almost a sigh and with a bow of his head, he started away from them towards Anna.  Sadly, this was not to last.

It seemed inevitable that no matter the occasion, there was always one that ruined the merriment.  This time, it was a Fairy noble from perhaps Anna's home?  Frae watched heartbroken as the noble threw his drink at her and named her in such insult that Frae herself felt she could kill this Fae right now.  "How dare he!"  She breathed, forgetting San Riel just for the moment.  However, it was well in hand as Mikal arrived before the noble had even lowered his glass again.

Standing tall, Mikal towered over the oddly short Fairy male and his eyes glowered with something quite dangerous.  "You will quiet your voice immediately."  He demanded quietly, "And then you will leave this gathering.  You will return to whatever tree you fell from and never come back.  Lady Anna is the reason for this gathering and all its festivities are to celebrate her actions and those of her friends in the capture of a man far less disgusting than you."  He then pulled out his kerchief and held it out to Anna with a warm smile.  "Are you alright, my Lady?"  He asked and then nodded to Frae and San Riel before nodding to the still entertaining Marthur.  "Come."  He offered, "Be among your true friends and celebrate yourself."  He then half turned his head to one of his guard as he held out his arm for Anna to take.  "Have that Fairy and all that came with him, removed from the palace."  He would ask Anna later just who he was and where he'd come from, a plan forming in his mind......

Anna looks at Mikal and the fairy noble. The noble looks at Mikal and says, “You should be careful who you honor. A mud blood like her is nothing but something to kill before it is born.” With that the noble left with his clan kin before Mikal could do anything about it. Anna wiped her face glad that nothing got on her dress. She looks at Mikal a moment taking his arm, “Thank you for coming to my aid.”

San Reil smiled at the queens assesment of him and was about to say something when Anna came in.  A quick look at Mikal and he could see that the man was entralled by the fairy.  Then one of the fairy nobles raised his voice to her, calling her names and throwing his glass of wine in her face.  The blood boiled in his body at the actions of the noble.

Mikal was down on the floor of the room in the nobles face in no time telling him to leave and to take all his people with him.  San Riel was also down with Mikal on the main floor of the room, only slightly on the other side to the fairy noble.  The noble made some more rude remarks that he felt also insulted the queen.  Before the noble could move to far San Riel stepped in front of him.  He removed a glove from where it was folded over his sword belt and hit the noble across the face with it and threw it on the ground.  He had just challanged the noble to a duel.

He looked over at the queen and then Mikal.  "Sorry but this baffon has not only insulted Anna but the Queen as well.  I hope you do not mind."  He then turned his attention back to the fairy lord who was red faced, huffing and puffing, anger rising.  He stepped back and drew his rapier and came on guard.  San Riel drew his blade smmothly from its scabbard.

Those with the fair lord smirked.  "He is a dead man.  A dead drow.  The Lord is a master swordsman. and will have screwered him in but a moment."  That just made San smile as he touched the fairy's blade.  There was a quick exchange of blades as the duel began.  Both blades flickered through the air like a flash of light.  They began to circle each other exchanging a flury of blows here and there. The ring of steel filled the air as the people made a large circle around the pair.

Then San began to back the noble up and with a quick flick of the blade, laid the fairy's right cheek open with a cut.  The noble stepped back and put a hand to his face and then he looked at the blood on his hand.  This infurated him and he attacked with web of steel that San easily parried and in the end made a cut on the nobles left cheek.

It was now evident that San was no newbie to the sword.  Again he forced the noble back with a web of steel that looked like a blur, and slowly began cutting away at his clothing.  First the cloak, then a cut here and there that did not cut flesh.  Soon his over coat fell away and now there was fear in the fairy's eyes.  San smiled as he continued to strip him of his waist coat and then with a quick turn of the wrist with his rapier wrapped around the noble's he disarmed him and placed the tip of the sword at the fairy's throat.  "You owe Anna and the Queen an apology."  he pricked the fairy's neck.  He was visably shaking in his boots.

Licking his lips he turned his head slowly to look at Anna.  "A thousand pardons my lady."  Then to the queen, "My humble applogies your Highness."  With that San lowered his blade and stepped aside as the noble ran past followed by the others.

San Riel then faced the queen and bowed.  "My apologies as well your highness for my rash actions."

Marthur and his crowd all froze to watch the duel, this was quite a bit of excitement for the young mage. After the duel, Marthur decided to break silence. "Uh... oh right! Your majesty... I brought a present, a token of my... I mean the Circle's good will." He said leading anyone who fallowed outside to the back of the palace.
Marthur reached inside his robe and grabbed a glass sphere filled with odd colored mud. "It's called alchemists paint." He said smiling. Without explaining he threw the sphere in the air and shot it with his staff. The sphere soared high up and exploded in a loud gorgeous display of bright lights and whistling colors.
Hearing the crouwds reaction, he grabbed a few more and soon fireworks were shooting from the back of the queens palace. Attracting even more attention, and giving the palace an even more festive image.

Frae could have fallen as the tensions rose to the point San Riel challenged the Fae noble to a duel and she heard very clearly what he had taken for an insult to her and to Anna obviously.  The fight ensued and San Riel won, as was to be expected, but she knew that would not be the end of it.  She recognised the noble as one of the Forest Elves.  He and his circle were responsible for the scripts that allowed lumber trade in Serin.  His cooperation was paramount if the city was to survive.  His forest provided all the wood needed to cook, keep warm, build homes and travel around the city.  Not that the noble should have been let off for his disgusting attitude, but she felt a rather embarrassing meeting coming or research to find a new source of lumber and trade.  The noble no doubt would use every last ounce of indignation to try and barter a new script and that meant higher prices and less supply.  Frae may well have to supplement the city funds with her own money from her treasury to stop the cost being passed on to the people of Serin.  To her, it was now a matter of the lesser evil.  Potentially pay more to the Forest Elves for their wood, or lose them entire and seek out a new source out of their control.  Both would require much more work and debate for her in the future.

Eventually, the noble apologised for his attitude and San Riel apologised for his retaliation and the silence was broken by Marthur as he offered a gift from his circle.  She followed out in silence, but was taken aback with Marthur magical fireworks.  Most of the party was and all began to 'ooo' and 'ahhh' at the display.  Frae couldn't hold back a few of her own and she watched in wonder with her guests.

Slightly apart, Mikal took San Riel aside so they could talk privately.  "San Riel."  He said with respect, "I know why you challenged the Forest Elf noble, but I hope you understand the consequences of it.  You see, that particular noble controls pretty much the entire lumber trade for Serin.  If he decides to stop the trade, Frae may have to find another source out of his control or Serin will soon grind to a halt.  On the other hand, I commend you for standing up for he honour, and Anna's.  As Regent, I may well have had to arrest him rather than challenge him and that would have made things a whole lot worse for Frae, so thank you for stepping in."  He slapped San Riel on the back in friendship, but he wasn't done yet.

"Tell me, my friend, the annual Giah Ball is coming up soon.  Do you know of it?"  He asked with a slight smirk.  "She's the goddess of the earth and whatnot and we honour her at this time with festivals and offerings to the land.  Well, anyhoo, it's also the time when all the free men and women of age in Serin gather together for a night of parading and splendour.  We held the ball last year inside the palace, but with Spring being early this year, we'll be holding it on the garden promenade."  His grin became somewhat sly then, "As a free woman, Frae will be obliged to be present.  She hates it of course, being surrounded by all those leeches for suitors, but perhaps this time, you might....."  He offered a shrug and looked around at the crowd still enjoying the fireworks.  "There's also a lot of political wrangling going on and I thought perhaps yourself and Mina could come up with a few ideas for the Dark Elves that are hiding here or want to come here.  It's up to you, but I think you will enjoy the ball if only to see so many fine ladies all dressed to the hilt.  It's quite a spectacle to see.  I'll be having a word with Marthur about this also to see what his ideas might be about promoting the Magi.  Perhaps he could dazzle us all with more of his magic tricks."

He then left San Riel to consider his thoughts on the matter and then stood on a wall to gain everyone's attention.  "If |I could have everyone's attention please!"  He called, then nodded to Marthur to stop his magic for a moment.  "If everyone would please go carefully into the throne room.  It is time for our honoured to be publically noted and respected as they deserve."  At this point, Frae had already left and was sitting on her throne deep in thought over many things.  As the first of the guess began to arrive, she stood up and bowed her head to them.  Soon enough, the room was full with a parting down the middle and Mikal carefully led San Riel, Anna and Marthur to the steps.  He then picked up his speech and unrolled it as Frae opened up a box on the podium she normally used to sit her coffee on.  Tonight though, it was covered in fine lace with gold edging and the box was gilded with gold and pearls.

Standing with his head high in pride, he watched Frae take her position with the first award.  She held herself with the pride of a queen and the grace of her Elven race, but also a warm smile for her friends.  "For outstanding commitment to justice and her skilled use with crystals, I ask that Anna of the Fae, come forward."  He didn't know which race of Fairies she had come from.  Frae gave her an awarded scroll and the national flower of Serin, a black lily.  She then bowed her head to Anna.  Mikal nodded and continued, "For outstanding commitment to justice and his incredible use of Magi skills, not to mention one very spectacular diversion, I ask that Marthur Mystic of the Magi, come forward."  Once again, Frae smiled warmly and handed him the award and the flower, "And it was spectacular."  She whispered before bowing her head to him.  Mikal nodded again and continued, "For unquestioned loyalty and friendship to the crown and her assistance, I ask that Mina of the Flower Fairies, come forward."  Frae handed over the scroll and the flower with a bow of her head and then a small cuddle of affection.  "And finally, for his outstanding commitment to justice, the rescue and restoration of the Ice Dragon's generation, his tracking and tracing of the kidnappers, I ask that San Riel of the Dark Elves, come forward."  Frae picked up the last scroll and flower and handed it to him with more than a bow of her head.  She curtsied to him.  Mikal rolled his scroll and also turned to bow his head to the honoured as they stood with Frae.  "May you always find peace, respect and friendship within our fair city.  Serin and the royal family thank you for your service and loyalty, and friendship."  A cheer went up in the large room as San Riel, Anna and Marthur were recognised for their efforts.......

Anna went through the festivities in a slight daze. She smiled on queue and did what she needed to do to be respectable to her friends but after that she went back to the rooms she was given here. She changes out of the fancy dress and takes care of it carefully. She dresses in a simple shirt and pants. She knew trouble was coming for Frae and she wanted to fix it. She goes out in her mini fairy form and goes to her hidden hutch where she used to live.

She goes into the large oak tree and goes through her things until she finds what she needs. She flies to the gardens of the royal palace and plants a few seeds along the borders of the garden. She focuses her fairy skills and the seeds start to spout and grow rapidly shaking the ground as it grows. Out springs what Anna calls The Fate Trees, the wood of which could heat any home for three weeks before needing to cut another tree down. The color changing leafs can cure any sickness. The sap can be used to ease stiffness.

Anna smiles some and lays on a branch and goes to sleep.

San Riel smiled at the Queen and then the Mage began his spectacular display in the sky which even amazed him. He stood there watching and had to admit it was grand. Then Mikal began talking about a giah ball coming up. He looked over at the Regent, was he implying what he thought he was? He looked over at the queen and wondered what had been said that would have made him think that the queen would even be interested in him. Then the honors were done for Anna, Marthur and himself.

But he was giving it thought, oh yes he was. When the fireworks were done he moved up to the queen and bowed at the waist, "I understand that you must begin the first dance of the evening. I would be honored if you allowed me to have that first dance with you."

He offed his arm to her and then said, "I would not worry to much about the procurement of the wood from the forest elves. They do not have a lot of large scale buyers for their trees. Your kingdom is the largest and most prospective of clients for their product. There are many forests out there that supply communities on the surface or is free for the taking. If I may suggest that you create a government logging department and employ some people to harvest some of the free forests. Perhaps they will have to lower their prices to stay in business."

There were always ways around those that strove to put a strangle hold on business. Frae would not have to worry about the trade agreement then. Her people would get their wood and perhaps at a much lower cost.

As he waited for her reply, he was also thinking of what had been said about bringing those dark elves that had escaped the underdark, up to the sky kingdom. Some had skills that would be helpful. Yes he would go find them and bring them back with him. He would help show that his people were not what they had been thought of and help Frea change the minds and hearts of her people.

Marthur's display wowed a many of what was now future clientele, the rich kind. Soon many were asking his location, Marthur was not at all thinking of moving. He liked where he was and proffered the simpler folk some come to treat a second class citizens.
When the ball started Marthur became almost a wall flower. He had spent most of his young life in regress study and tedious practice of his skills. He never was popular with his pupils, being the youngest mage to ever reach the rank of Magi. He was so busy accelerating in his craft, he had no time for friends. Let alone time for dancing and women. Marthur sat, watching the smiles, the fun, the festivities. Part of him envied the other men, he hoped to be asked to dance. He had an adventurous heart, and loved to learn new things.

Frae had been so deep in thought and distracted by several large trees that suddenly rumbled from the bottom of the garden and grew tall that she didn't notice San Riel until he was almost stood over her.  It seemed she was the only one that noticed thus far.  No doubt Anna was responsible for that and she smiled.  As he bowed, she turned her head quickly and ruffled her wings, showing that he had caught her unawares and blushed lightly.  The dancing had begun and it was down to her to give the first dance.  She wasn't too keen on the idea, but she supposed it would give her some practice for the Giah Ball in a few weeks.  As San Riel offered his arm, she took it and listened carefully to his ideas.  Had he been reading her mind, or had Mikal said something?  Quickly, she put her thoughts in order before opening her mouth.

"Not only are you an accomplished thief and miscreant, a noble richer than I, but you're also a mind reader too."  She said to him with a small smile as he led her onto the floor.  She lifted up one side of her skirt and held it out as she put her other hand into his.  Feeling his hand slide around her back, she felt a sudden rush of warmth from his touch and it ruffled her feathers again.  "You're right though."  She said as the music began.  A simple waltz.  "After this, it's unlikely the Forest Elves will continue to offer their wood under the old agreement.  Your idea could save me a lot of headaches down the line.  There is a large forested area to the South that hasn't been claimed, or at least not that I know of.  Serin will pass over it later in the year in time for the harvests there."  She moved with him easily, though it was clear dancing wasn't her favourite thing.  "I'll send out an emissary to search the area for any locals and barter a deal if the forest is owned.  If what you say is true, the Forest Elves will finally have competition.  In the meantime, we have enough stockpiled to keep Serin going for a month or so and the new trees that have appeared in the lower gardens are, I think Fate Trees.  They will keep the palace going for quite a while and it'll mean we don't have to use the public wood.  I'll remind myself to thank Anna as soon as I see her."

As the pair danced, others began to join in and soon enough, everyone was enjoying themselves again.  Only a few weren't dancing and when Frae was turned, she spied some of them.  Marthur was acting a rather unconvincing wallflower and Mina was hovering, waiting for someone also to ask.  Mikal was offering a few ladies to dance, but the one he really wanted to dance with wasn't there and it showed.  Frae smiled more generally now and as she turned again, she nodded to Mina to go over to the Magi.  Mikal, she couldn't do anything about for the moment.  "I suppose I should ask if you'll be attending the Giah Ball."  She said to San Riel.  "I'll be needing relative numbers so the kitchen can know how much wine to buy."  She blushed again, "But most of all, to save me from the leeches."  She looked up at him with a small, embarrassed smile, "Every noble in Serin will try and pass their sons off on me and last year was horrific enough.  I'd appreciate some distraction.  Will you come?"

Across the room, Mina took the hint and spied Marthur sat on his own.  There were a few women near him, but they were quickly being snapped up to dance and he was left on his own.  With a smile, she went to him and curtsied.  "Marthur Mystic?"  She asked, "I'm Mina.  Frae is my friend, the lying little raffle."  She laughed and held out her hand, "Would you care to dance with me?"......

San Riel smiled as she said he was a mind reader. "No your highness, not a mind reader just an astute listener. I hear much on the streets and from the merchants as they talk business. When she mentioned being a noble, he raised a brow. Oh if she only knew the half of that small statement. He had escaped the underdark, but he wondered if he would ever escape his heritige. He was the son of a noble that had gotten on the wrong side of the Queen. His whole family was sentenced to death and he alone it seemed was able to escape. His live in the above world had not been that of luxury as it had in the underdark. He had to learn the trade of a thief to survive and now he was back in the palace life.

As he placed a hand on her back he noticed how her wings fluttered. As the dance began he lead her around the room in a nice easy manner. As they danced she talked about the forests to the south and what he had said and then about the Giah Ball. He chuckled when she asked him if he would be going to it and if he would come, to save her from all of the nobles sons. "It would be an honor my queen." he said to her. "I look forward to it." and he chuckled again. After the nights earlier spectical, he figured that there would be none to bother the queen if he was there at her side.

The dragons headed home but not by flying. They had learned that the mere sight of them over the surface of the world caused fear and panic. There were those dragons that were feared and were dangerous. While in the humans and elven territories, they traveled in their elven looking forms. It would take them longer to get home but they figured it would give them more time to bond with their child.

"Yes sir they are on the ground and in a caravan heading in the direction of the isles." a thin man with a whispy beard told the man in shadows.

"Excellent." the man said. "Then send word for the mercenaries to attack the caravan and take the hatchling. Make sure they have the special nets that will prevent the adults from changing. Once they are entangled in them they will not be able to change and give chase."

"Yes sir, right away sir." the thin man said.

Anna woke up as the dragons were leaving. She could see through their Elvin forms. It was called fairie sight. All the fairies had the ability to do it very few actually knew how to use it. It was one of those learn as you go type of skills. She has a very bad feeling as she watched them leave. So she flew onto their shoulders temporarily and placed a charm on each of them that would protect them on their journey. Each charm placed a barrier on them on nothing could touch them on their way home.

When Mina asked Marthur to dance, a large smile grew on his face. He happily took her and as the two began to dance. With his hands around her waist, he was constantly looking down as they stepped it was clear he was enjoying himself.
"Hahaha... This is quite fun." Marthur chuckled. The young mage laughed and smiled as they danced and eventually got the hand of dancing. "I... well I don't really go to many occasions where dancing occurs." He said looking around.
After the feast ended Marthur took Mina's hand and kissed his lightly. "Thank you Mina, this was quite the interesting evening." He said wondering out to the streets with her. "Shall I walk you home?"

Frae felt almost relieved when San Riel agreed to attend the ball, "Oh, thank you!"  She sighed, "I fear this year will be the worst yet."  She laughed then and moved more comfortably around the floor with him.  "Only..."  She mused, "Please, stop calling me Highness, or Queen, or whatever."  She shook her head, "Noble and citizen, you may be, but you're my friend and friends call each other by their name."  She smiled again.  Mikal would have a fit of course, but she really did hate being called Highness and Queen all the time, especially by those she considered her equals and until proven otherwise, san Riel was very much in that category.  The music began to slow and then faded out.  Another tune started up, but this one seemed a little too intimate and Frae began to feel a little nervous.  She smiled to him and looked around.  People were staring.  She kept dancing though, despite herself and allowed San Riel to pull her a little closer as the music needed.

Across the room, Mina moved easily with Marthur and laughed with him as he figured out how to step in time and where to put his feet.  Thankfully, he didn't stand on hers and all in all, he seemed a genuinely fun person to be around.  "I don't do these dance things much either.  My café takes a lot of my time and before you and Frae got rid of that leech Fargas, most of my takings went into his pocket, so I couldn't really afford to come to these things.  Maybe this year, I might be able to attend them.  I hear the Queen, I mean Frae, she throws the best parties and it would be nice to be here more often.  Anyway, now that I've babbled myself into embarrassment, the Giah Ball is coming up soon.  I've no intention of being paired off like so many others, but would you like to attend with me?  You could show me some more of that wonderful magic of yours, perhaps learn more about your Circle?  I've seen their symbols here and about, but I've never really known what they're all about.  Maybe in return, I could help you somehow?  I know many of the people in the quarter that you're in and where you can get the best resources.  We could help each other."......

Anna went back to the party after a bit. She notice to everyone was having fun. That made her very happy. She back in her dress and danced with a few of the nobles. Every once in awhile she would look at Mikal to see how he was handling the party. He seemed too much like the serious type to actually enjoy the party like this. Of course he was very protective of his sister. That was understandable for the most part. But he also needed to learn that she was a grown woman.

San Riel was enjoying the dance and the conversation with Frae. He chucked when she told him to stop calling her highness and queen. "Very well Frae." he said. "So you think the noble's sons are looking to become king?" he asked and when the dance changed he pulled her closer and felt a heat rise up in his skin. Never had he ever dreamed he would be holding such a beautiful woman in his arms let along one that was a queen.

Across the room he saw Marthus and Mina dancing. At first the young mage seemed a bit akward at dancing but soon fell into the rythem of it. He was laughing and talking with Mina and enjoying himself. Then he saw Anna return to the party and dance with one of the nobles. He looked over at Mikal and moved his head towards Anna. He had seen how he had come to her aid earlier and the look in his eye told him all that was needed to be known.

"Your brother I think has been smitten with the young fairy Anna. " Again he chuckled. "He had best go rescue her from those nobles, or she will probably be bored to tears." He moved her around the dance floor and everything else then faded away and all he saw was her. Oh if but fate was kind.

As they danced, a High Elf Lord entered, and stayed in the back of the crowd. He watched Frae dancing with San Riel and though outwardly he gave no sign, his eyes if any could see them showed his distain for the Dark Elf. Soon after another elf entered and walked up to him saying something. A sadistic smile touched the High Elf Lord's lips.

Marthur smiled at Mina. "Hmm... By the reaction of some of the people I would have assumed otherwise, but this Kingdom was in my archives, so perhaps a few must pass through time to time. I believe I may be the first to have officially represent my circle. I would be honored, because of that fact, to join you at the ball." Marthur's grin grew a little. "I would love to discuss my circle with you, it's half the reason I'm here. You see, after I earned the title of Magus, I was instructed to begin my missionary work. Every Magus who wishes to gain the prestigious title of Archmage must complete many years of missionary work. Now you have me babbling..." He chuckled. "Listen it is getting late... perhaps we can discuss are business arraignments more tomorrow. I'll stop by your cafe' and you can introduce me to your other partners. I would love to get my hands on some better resources." He said fallowing her.

Frae moved with San Riel and felt something begin to rise deep from within her.  "Of course they want to be King."  She said quietly, "Serin is the most powerful city in Malthinos, it's the only major city and it has connections across the entire realm.  Who wouldn't want to be in charge of that?"  She turned slowly and relaxed her shoulders somewhat before shaking her head softly, "Though sometimes, I wonder if there is anyone that can handle such a thing.  Most are too arrogant to see the real hard work that has to go into it.  And more so to keep it going."  She looked around at the others and smiled almost distantly, "Sometimes, I wish I could be them for real.  Just an ordinary Elf with an ordinary trade, an ordinary home and an ordinary family.  I believe they call that emotion envy.  Perhaps that's why I pretend to be kitchen raffle."  She laughed quietly and shook her head as San Riel moved her around the floor before looking to Mikal.  "Indeed, he might be."  She replied, "But Anna had best be careful.  He has a fickle heart and I should hate to see her hurt by his waning attention."  She let herself fall into the music and his embrace, forgetting, if only for a short time, that she was queen.  For just that moment, she was just another Elf, dancing with another Elf and being content in that moment.

Across the floor, Mina smiled at Marthur and nodded, "I'd beg to differ."  She said quietly, "Some of the snobs up top might think less of you, but you've caused a real stir with the regular people.  That man you saved, his family have done nothing but talk about your kindness and mercy since."  She smiled as he offered to walk her home and nodded, "I'd like that very much."  She told him, "And breakfast will be on the house.  Whatever you like."

Near the door, Mikal had all but given up hope of spotting Anna again, but he did spot something else entirely.  An Elven noble had entered.  A High Elf and something told Mikal this man was trouble.  At the same time, he spotted Anna dancing with another and gritted his teeth.  Anna looked almost in a bored stupor and he desperately wanted to save her from such a miserable person, but his duty had to come first.  Besides, the look in the High Elf's eyes could turn the tide if wanted and that meant danger.  He moved forward quickly, but discretely.  Once before the High Elf, he bowed his head in respect and eyed his companion carefully.  "I do believe we have not yet met."  He said with a polite smile, "I am Mikal Darkheart, Prince Regent to Queen Darkheart.  May I know your name, Sir?".....

Lord Archon watched Mikal approach and when he introduced himself and asked for a name, he looked past Mikal as he spoke, like he was a common servant. "I am Lord Archon of the Scared Isles and this is my adviser Count Orion." His voice was full of superiority and arrogance. He then moved past Mikal and moved around the room with Orion right behind him.

"Well you are doing a good job of it from what I have seen the last couple of days. Again I wish to aplogize for my actions and words against you, from the deepest recess of my heart." San Riel whispered to her as they danced. "As for Anna, well I think she may be more then your brother realizes." he chuckled. "He may have found his match in her."

Now some distance from the floating city as it continued on its path over the surface and moving away from the Dragons, the trio rode comfortably in a wagon. It was driven by a hired driver and was comfortably equiped with plush pillows and furs. Mitheral had been quickly taught how to change in to her elven form. She appeared to be a young girl of may be six or seven years of age. Her mother patiently instructed her on geogrophy. One of the many lessons she needed to learn. Her father watched with pride as the lesson went on and Mitheral began soaking it all in. Yes the name the Drow San Reil had given her was most appropriate.

The mercenaries stayed a good distance from the caravan. They wanted to make sure that the floating mountain was indeed far away when they made their attack. With them was a figure dressed in black. A black hooded cloak enveloped the figure, covering the head and face of the person in darkness. Across its' lap was a long staff made of black wood, with a black crystal mounted at the top in a twisted root like design of the staff. "There has been items placed on the dragons. Magical in nature. These will have to be nullified before you can use the nets." a female's voice came from beneath the hood.

Anna looks over to the high ranking elf a moment once her dance was over. She looked in her bag of gems. She could sense that something was wrong with the dragons. She looks into a crystal and could see some people were following them. She dug deep into her connection with nature and the elements began to protect the dragons. The charms she placed on them were growing stronger.

She goes to a corner of the room and holds her head. She could hear her father's voice in her head. He had told her once, "Anna because you are a cross breed, you can do things and see things others cannot. Your people will reject you. You will spend most of your life alone. But when you ascend to the throne, you will have made friends to help you on your journey as the rightful queen of all the fairy people. Use your talents with nature to do what is right and have no regrets."
