"Fine, but that's only because I know these things. Don't forget, I'm magic" Magnus replied as Robert Lightwood walked into the room. He smiled, not minding that Isabelle had stated the obvious. "Merry Christmas" he greeted, shaking his bangs to the side, able to see the red and green streaks over his eye. He had always liked Robert, even if he had been a part of Valentine's Circle. Both of Alec's parents had turned their back on that jackass, and it was all good. He had known them for a long time, but had never really known them well, until now. He liked the head of the Lightwood household even more now that he had accepted him so quickly when it came down to it.

"Merry Christmas," Robert greeted, plucking at the holiday sweater his wife had made him wear. Matching sweaters apparently were common with couples on holidays. His son and his fiance weren't wearing matching sweaters, Robert thought with a mental roll of the eyes. Magnus getting Alec in a happy, itchy sweater that represented Christmas, yeah, that's be a very interesting event. Alec actually participating on his own with those things would be amazing in itself. "You look festive, Magnus," he commented, looking at the man who stood out more than his son color wise.

Magnus eyed the sweater, knowing that Robert hadn't volentarily put it on. Maryse had probably forced it on him, from the way he seemed to be hating on it. He thought Alec would look adorable in one, but he personally wouldn't go near one with a ten foot pole, unless it was on somebody else. "Why thank you. And it only took me about forty five minutes" he grinned, personally rather proud of the time, compared to his usual two hours or so.

"Only?" Isabelle put in. "Puh-lease. Mine took fifteen minutes less." She wasn't as colorful, sure, but she, in her opinion and Simon's, looked very nice. Dresses and heels did her justice very well. Some girls just pulled it off easily by putting on some sort of clothing type and instantly looked gorgeous. Isabelle, knowing this, was one of those girls playing off her natural looks. "Dying hair kills it," she scolded, not really meaning it and not ultimately sure if that was true. Someone who died it a million times in one year, yeah, she was sure about that one. Magnus was one of those people.

"You also didn't put as much effort into it. And for me, that's a rather short time. One day I'm going to make you wait while I take a long time to get ready" Magnus decided, wanting to know what she would think after making her wait for a few hours. He raised an eyebrow at the next comment, knowing he had explained that to Alec sometime recently. "Do you really think I would do something that kills my hair? It's like gel, that has colour. Kind of like a paste, that just sits there and dries, and then washes right off" he explained, fidding with one of the red streaks in his hair.

"We should have a contest who takes longer to look better," Isabelle suggested. "Although everyone knows girls look better when they spend some time taking care of themselves. It's automatic kind of thing. No, default is a better word." Girls just had some sort of flare to them that made them more eye catching than guys. Maybe it was the gentler face or something that caught more attention. A guy could wear the exact same thing, but unless he looked calm and gentle, he wasn't as pretty as the girl beside him. Isabelle won contests like those before.

Magnus was up to the challenge, sure he could win that. He took so much time to make himself look good, but he knew he was nothing short of good looking even without the makeup, not being bigheaded or anything. "Psh, I bet I can look better than you any day" he decided, whether it was with magic's use or not, he was sure he could. "You're on for that. Alec can be the judge" who cares that Alec would be slightly biased? It was between his lover and his sister. It wasn't too unfair.

"That..." Alec didn't want to be dragged into a fashion contest between them, even if it was just judging. The contest could end up focusing on him if he wasn't careful. He wouldn't want them trying to compete on who could dress him up better or anything. That could be disastrous. Who ever could catch him first and keep him still. Alec didn't know where he'd hide for this. "Whatever you guys say," he shrugged. These contests were kind of pointless, to Alec, anyway.

Magnus knew how much Alec didn't care about fashion, and even disliked it, but he was sure he could persuade him to be a judge if he wanted. He was good with persuasion. "I'll win, hands down" he decided, having no lack of confidence. He had roughly eight centuries of confidence built up. Isabelle was beautiful, there was no question about it, but he believed he would still win. "I'm sure you'll make a great judge Alec" he said, smiling sweetly at his lover, his green gold eyes fixed on him.

"But it's choosing between you and my sister. That's not that easy," Alec protested, making a face. "Simon can judge...oh but wait, he'd be biased, wouldn't he?" Simon was straight as far as Alec knew, so he'd only know how to pick Isabelle as a winner. "Then he can be a judge with me so it'll be a fifty fifty thing." He wasn't doing this alone. If he had to judge, so did the former Mundane. If he wound up being part of another contest of dress up, Simon was going down with him too then.

"I bet I could make it easy" Magnus smirked slightly. He was sure he could put something on that would make it impossible for Alec to say no to, and if Isabelle tried something like that as well, he might be slightly scarred by that, since he was gay, and it was his sister. "Hmm, that should be fair" he agreed. There would also be more room for a tie, but hopefully Simon has some kind of gay tendancies. He liked to think that he could turn even the straightest men gay for him, but you never know.

[Nyako-Chan]

"If you made it like that, then it wouldn't be fair," Alec pointed out, even though he knew Magnus didn't like playing completely fair, as long as he won and proved something out of it. Isabelle would be mad at him for about a week or so if he chose Magnus just for that. Hopefully they'd forget about this and just not do it, but between the two of them, they'd probably remember it. Alec was a little disappointed that they probably wouldn't forget this. Simon would probably pick Isabelle just because, and if that happened, Alec could play it ties and pick Magnus.

"All is fair in love and war" Magnus quite enjoyed that quote. Especially in situations where it called for it, such as this. He could wear whatever he wanted, and nobody could call him on it, because it was fair. He knew this was bound to happen eventually, and he was slightly looking forward to it. He glanced to his sparkling nails, making sure they were perfect for a moment, before looking back up to Alec, blinking for a moment, as if realizing for the first time that he had been standing still. "Alec, come here" he sounded slightly exasperated that he hadn't sat down, but it was rather amusing.

Alec didn't know what this really had to do with love or war, but he didn't understand a lot of quotes Magnus used. He went to where Magnus indicated, sitting down next to him. He hadn't known what to do when he'd entered the room after seeing Simon and Isabelle together. He'd forgotten to sit down because he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do after witnessing his sister liplocking with another guy. He hated walking in on those kinds of things. It made him feel like a third wheel, more than he already felt he was, anyway. He didn't make eye contact with Simon, making sure he focused on Magnus or Isabelle, wondering who'd win their competition.

Magnus was happy that Alec didn't even hesitate before coming to sit beside him, and he slipped an arm around his waist. "Hey sexy" he greeted in his ear softly, not exactly needing the entire room to hear, not that he minded. It was Alec he was looking out for there. He couldn't help but notice how his fiance was avoiding looking at Simon, and he laughed softly, shaking his head. Alec could be such an innocent teenager sometimes, but sometimes for Magnus, he found it extremely hard to believe.

Alec blushed with the whispered words Magnus greeted him with, biting his lower lip and trying not to show too much that Magnus had said something only for his ears that embarrassed him. Simon, being a vampire, probably heard it, but what would he do? Tell the rest of the room that Magnus had just called Alec sexy? There'd be no point to that other than to embarrass Alec. As far as Alec knew Clary's friend and possibly Isabelle's boyfriend, Simon didn't usually do that. Maybe to Jace, but Jace liked attention, so it didn't bother him when someone called him out on something stupid or silly. He made the most of it, actually. "Um... so, Dad," Alec asked his father, "what's Mom doing in the kitchen?"

Robert shrugged, looking at the two boys on the couch and the other, who looked a little lost. "Still preparing the kitchen. I'm surprised she didn't kick you out right away. None of us are allowed in there."

Magnus grinned at the expected blush, giving him a kiss on the cheek. He had cuahgt Simon glance to him when he had whispered, but since the Vampire hadn't said anything, he didn't exactly care. He glanced up when Alec adressed his father, and he was rather interested in the answer. "Well we got kicked out after we said hello" he pointed out, which wasn't much better. He had even gotten a hug, which was a bit of a surprise to him. He couldn't understand why some females were so anal about everything at dinners being perfect. He had only run into maybe twenty that didn't flip on people on holidays for getting in the way.

"Mom likes authority," Isabelle shrugged, because she got that from her too. She loved being able to command people, especially men. Shadowhunter men, the arrogant ones who usually believed woman couldn't do it. She loved proving them wrong, in fighting, and being able to take leadership. Her mother was a very good leader. Isabelle was getting there. Making scared of her was enjoyable, and many people were scared of Maryse.

"Mom likes kicking people out of places, actually," Alec muttered, used to being kicked out of somewhere by his mother. His father didn't usually make him leave some place unless he wanted to, but his mother, if she thought he shouldn't be there, he wouldn't be there.

"I've come to find that most Shadowhunter women are like that. No offense" Magnus grinned at Isabelle. He knew better than to piss a Shadowhunter off. He had dealt with that long enough. He had only met one or two female Nephilim that weren't scary badass, one of those being Jessamine. That was a long time ago though. He laughed slightly at Alec's muttered words, agreeing to that quietly. It was true, not that he would ever admit that to Maryse. That would be one way to lose some part of his body.

"Offense? Maybe not offense taken, more like an eye brow raise," Isabelle responded, raising her eyebrow with that said. "But it's probably true. Shadowhunters are leaders, most of us are born leaders. Some of us work for it." Being part of the Clave meant you were a good leader. Or it usually meant that. Some of the people Isabelle didn't really think should be there, but whatever. A lot of them still held personal grudges against the Lightwoods for the Uprising. Some of them needed to accept that that had been in the past. They weren't doing it again and they'd already been punished with banishment of living there. Isabelle wasn't even around when that had happened. Alec got scorn even though he'd been too young to be there.

Magnus raised his own thin black eyebrow in response. At Isabelle's next sentence, his mind automatically went to the gutter. "I think you'd make a good leader" he whispered suggestively in Alec's ear, snickering slightly. "This is true" he spoke to the whole group this time, having moved his mouth away from his fiance's ear. "Shadowhunters do tend to like to lead people. Although looking at Valentine, that's not always a good idea" he had seen a few people who thought they could pull that kind of thing off, but didn't get very far with that, and weren't even notable in Shadowhunter history books.

Isabelle stared, as did Robert. Alec, who had been slightly flushed from Magnus implying another something to only him had given a light sigh when Valentine was brought up.

"Way to kill the mood," Isabelle muttered. Valentine had been a good leader for those who had believed him, at least until he decided killing all the downworlders was a good idea for Shadowhunters. "Anyways!" She looked to the kitchen door. "Hey, Mom! Is the food done?"

Their mother emerged as she wiped sweat off her brow, brushing strands of hair out of her face. "Yes, just in time. Would you guys want to eat now? The dessert won't be done for a while, so unless you want to eat that right after dinner, we can wait."

Magnus hadn't really thought that mentioning Valentine's name would be that much of a conversational wrecking ball. But then again, the only Shadowhunter he regularily spoke to was Alec, and sometimes Isabelle, and that wasn't a very common topic of conversation. He looked up as Maryse walked in when she was called by the middle Lightwood child, saying that the food was indeed ready. "I'm fine with either" he shrugged when nobody said anything. He didn't care if he had to wait to eat, but he would be fine with eating then too.

Alec shrugged too, glad the conversation had been changed before his mother had heard it. Actually, it was a good thing she hadn't walked into that silence and asked what it was about. "I don't care when we eat. I guess I'm kind of getting to the point of really hungry." His hunger was average right now, he could take food or leave it for a while. Skylar drank formula, and Alec would feed him maybe close to the end of when they were eating.

"Might as well eat now," Isabelle decided, "I'm hungry." She turned to Simon. "I'm not sure you can eat the people food anymore. What happens when vamps eat people food?" she asked Magnus, the downworlder expert.

Magnus glanced at Alec when he started speaking, although he knew even if he was starving he would probably wait with everybody else, not wanting to rush them or something. He laughed slightly at Isabelle's question directed towards him. He would have figured Simon would know this already, but whatever. "He's not going to implode or something if he eat's it, no. He'll be fine. He can eat whatever the hell he wants, he just doesn't need it" he explained, running the hand that was round Alec's waist up and down his thigh absently.
