Mari couldn't help but laugh as Brough got whalloped by his girl, it was hilarious and she enjoyed it, though after everyone left, she once again was enjoying a silent meal with her fiance. something she normally enjoyed at night with a delicious dinner. Once they finished eating she gathered the dishes up once again and rinsed them off before stacking them in the sink. since it was Brough's job to do the dishes for the day.
with that done she headed out with cale by herself to watch the fantastic view of Rooster becoming his pheonix and being geared up. it was fascinating. She had been around the group long enough now that nothing really surprised or shocked her. She even spotted Drachen with Athena at the same time Cale did, and quickly noted the little grin on Cale's face. nudging him lightly she smiled'' seems to me , Drachen has a little fancy for Athena. those two are suited. he is sweet and she is shy as a mouse.. for a wolf." when told to step back and give Rooster some room , she did so immediately. watching as he took off. once he was gone however she sighed and went back to doing light chores.. anything that Cale actually let her do, she did.
The moment Athena climbed up onto the hay bale's she sat down next to Drachen and actually leaned against him, tentatively resting her cheek against his shoulder as, with wide eyes, she watched Rooster shift and get ready before he tested things out, did his flame then took off.it was a lovely sight, one she was glad she got to see as he finally left. she almost wish he hadn't, she enjoyed watching the large bird move about. Once he was gone though she became all to aware of the people around her, and shrinking against Drachen she looked up at him. " can we go back to the house.. please?"
Ebony shrugged at Rooster's small thanks but no thanks reply before he left. she sorta figured he would have said that, and it didn't bother her one way or another. it just gave her some time to relax now before heading back home in a day or two. since of course she knew she would have to haul his armor back once he was done so any dings or dents on it could be fixed after the battle he was fixing to get into.
Turning to Zynski she smiled'' well then.. now that is done.. is there anything you would like to do? considering i think we actually got some time off before he comes back."

Drachen was very impressed with how well Athena—he kept wanting to call her Angel—handled the situation. She shocked him when she leaned her cheek against his shoulder, and he gave her hand a gentle squeeze. He took her back to the house when she asked, and then took up his vigil outside her doorway. He was a little sore from spending so much time the last few days, but to him it was worth it. Athena was his angel after all, and he wanted to make sure she was taken care of.

Cale was also keen to notice Athena’s small improvements, and he was eager to see her progress. Of course, he had every intention of accepting her into the pack, but going on how skittish she was he knew it would be a while before she let him breach the subject.
Well, maybe for him, but if Drachen…
Then he got a brilliant idea and called Drachen into the living room to discuss it with him.
About ten minutes later, Drachen gave a gentle knock on the door again.
“Athena? Can I come in? Cale has something he wants me to relay to you.”

Mari spent most of the time going up and down the ladder to the attic, she was finally cleaning it out since, of course cale wouldn't let her do anything else. Then again she didn't mind his protective behavior at the moment. She had been meaning to clean that attic out for ages since it had a ton of stuff in it, like old clothing, old books, even some old vhs movies that she had thought hadn't been up there.
She had even found an old box of baby clothing, toys , a crib and other things baby related, which she figured had been hers and her father didn't want to throw any of it out. The crib however, Mari had to throw out, the frame was old and cracked, being as it was made out of wood. Frankly it was one of the old store bought ones and she wasn't going to use it. Definitely not for her child, since it was unsafe. She wished she could have used it though.
She was going to have the attic renovated though however, Give it an actual real floor and such so she could walk on it instead of having to walk from one bean to the next to the small area that housed the stored box's. She figured the attic could be turned into another guest room.Since she was planning on building a bigger storage behind the house.One of those metal weather proof ones that she has been seeing on tv. they could even be air conditioned too if she wanted.
She had just finished passing down the last piece of the broken crib down to Brough with the last box of baby toy's as well, when she spotted the old trunk that had been buried underneath everything else. She hadn't seen it before so was highly curious as she looked down to Brough" hey take that old thing out to the dumpster real fast so its not clogging up the hallway. i have one more trunk up here to bring down and then we should be done for the day." Lucky for her the trunk wasn't too big nor too heavy as she picked it up, carefully made her way to the ladder, then using one hand to hold onto the side of the ladder, she carefully climbed down and slid the ladder back up to fold into the roof and closed the attic off. She smiled at Drachen as she watched him going back and forth from Athena's room to Cale.
She figured the two where up to something but knew it wasn't a bad thing." Cale dear, its nearly lunch time so try not to pester Athena too much." setting the old small trunk down by the kitchen she swiped the back of her hand over her sweaty forehead, trying and yet failing to wipe off the dust from her face. It seemed she was always doing something to get dirty. She was lucky the trunk was not locked otherwise she would have had to pry the darn thing open and that would have been annoying. so she quickly got cleaned up, went and got lunch started which was just some chicken sandwhich's, with fresh tomato's and lettuce and such for the fixing's of the sandwhich then she got started some of the side's, which was basically french frie's, half of them cooked in the fryer and the other half baked for whoever liked to eat healthy. As the fries where going, she went through the small task of opening the trunk and going through it, realizing it must of been her grandparent's things.

Athena had settled back down into her usual spot in her room, trying to read but couldn't focus on the book as she heard the ruccus outside, it wasn't bothering her, just making her curious as to what Mari was doing up in the attic and such, that and Athena was beginning to want to help with things. participate in some of the chores to get a feel for some normalcy,that and she wanted to do something for Mari and Cale for being nice to her.
She was trying to work up the courage to ask Mari if she could help with cooking when she heard the knock on her door and Drachen's voice. Curious as to what he wanted to relay to her she got up and opened the door, wide enough for Drachen to come in and enough for her to see some of the old things that where brought down from the attic. " you can come in. i don't mind. " she was trying hard not to blush at that, but then again it was the same room she had slept in with Drachen when he had been still healing up from the snake bite. He had still been in his wolf form then. Even the other bed was still there, unused now as it sat there bare of any sheets and cover's. Mari had them washed and put away until someone wanted to use the bed.. well once they could find a place to put the other bed to avoid freaking Athena out.

Cale, of course, would have preferred Mari not to strain herself but he knew he could never keep her completely dormant. He’d wanted to assist in or maybe even do the attic himself, but the fact of the matter was that he didn’t know what was up there and as such didn’t want to throw out something important to her.
So he went about the house doing some house cleaning, but when he saw the crib go to the dumpster, he got an idea.
And it was right about then he heard her announce lunch time.
“For heaven’s sake, woman, we just ate not two hours ago!” he called back to her as he headed out the door.
Most of the pack would be moving out today and tomorrow—no that their alpha was back and recovered they had lives of their own to attend to. They didn’t need to protect him and his mate since he was on his feet again.
He took a swig of Mari’s lemonade, then headed back inside.
“Hey, Mari, I need to get out of this house for a minute. I’m going out of my mind here. I’ll be back in a couple of hours.”
With that he grabbed the keys to his truck—which was all dusty now from three weeks of disuse, except for where Mari had started it periodically to keep the fluids running—then grabbed his Stetson. He started his precious Chevy and let the engine idle for a few minutes, and then backed out and took off.
He made the hour’s drive into Beartooth, and his first stop in the city was at a car wash where he pampered his ‘mistress’ and scrubbed on a fresh coat of wax. He popped the hood and checked the engine, adding new window washer to the reservoir.
His next stop was to the local Lube Express where he had the oil and the filters changed, and then moved on to the Exxon and filling up, with some Slick 50 in the mix.
When the Chevy was purring like a lover again, Cale made a trip to Safeway, and picked up a few bags of things—including the precious apple wood bacon Brough kept snatching. He even picked up a couple of movies at the checkout line.
It was after these errands were done—Cale feeling feminine eyes on him all the time—that he headed to a more manly place: the Home Depot.
Here he picked up some timer and dowels and a couple of new saw blades for Mari’s old table saw, along with a new tape measure and a carpenter’s pencil and various other odds and ends he’d seen that needed replacing in Mari’s workshop. With the wood lashed down in the bed of the Chevy and the bags inside behind the seat, the young alpha headed home—since Mari’s ranch had become more of a home for him than his own. At least there he could be himself.
An hour later as he came back to the ranch, he noted how many of the vehicles were gone. He hauled the groceries inside and announced he was back. He put them away before heading back outside, starting his truck again, then backing up to the workshop and hauling everything out of the pickup.
He spent long hours out there, his shirt off as he sweat over the table saw, the jig saw, and the other power tools as he crafted the cedar wood into something.
That night around eleven, he and Drachen hauled the fruit of his labor—a gorgeous crib with three dimensional wolf head carved onto small boards that had been chiseled and sanded into beautiful corner plates—into Mari‘s bedroom and set it up. Each leg of the crib had two lines of text engraved into it, running from the corner plate to the floor. One was a Cherokee prayer of good health and happy life, and then on the other side the same prayer in elvish. He’d even stained the piece already and let it dry—showing how much a werewolf can get done in one day if he put his mind to it.
He let Drachen go after he told Cale what Athena’s response was, and then the alpha took a long, hot shower.
And by then it was twelve thirty, and he sank slowly into the bed, then leaned down, kissed Mari’s cheek, then softly sank in her ear,
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you….”
Until she woke up, and he showed her her present.

“Cale wanted me to ask you if you’d like to join up with the pack? He says you’re more than welcome to stay, or leave if you want. But he was hoping you’d stay.”

Athena couldn't believe her ears at the words that Drachen spoke out. flushing brightly she quickly nodded" oh yes i would really really like that" bit her lip before getting up and sitting down next to him. " are you going to be staying?" she knew he was a trucker and didn't know when he had to leave or something. it was weird. that was the only thing she learned from the others. considered they talked about him alot.
feelinga little embarrassed she tucked her hair behind her ear" i mean.. do you have to.. go back on the road soon?"

Mari laughed as she heard Cale. '' we have extra guest's hun!, they might be hungry i know i am!" Shaking her head she cut up a bowl of fruit for herself before going on with the rest of her cleaning. She would dig through the trunk in a little bit.when he called out and said he had to get out of the house for a while she frowned" alright! , just don't stay out too long don't want you missing dinner."
She kept herself busy through out the day, cleaning up the dishes and w hat not from lunch, even spoke with Ebony and Zynski a while ago too while they ate, they where very nice. Once all the men where out of the house she even spotted Athena and Drachen walking around. It was nice to see everything getting back to normal, well.. as normal as it was going to get with paranormal beings being around her place.
She was aware when Cale came home, but left him to his own devices when she realized he was going to be working in the shop, and since she couldn't be around all that wood dust and such. she stayed in. Around 7pm she went and had dinner started, just two large pots of stew for whoever was hungry. Once dinner was done and she had her fill, she took the small trunk to the room and sat on the bed, going through it, she found old photo albums and such but it was the journals and diaries that she was curious about, and when she opened them, she was even more shocked to find she couldn't read them, since they where written, to her astonishment, in elven language.
She was excited and yet confused by what it meant, she would ask cale later when he came in from working in the shop. stacking them neatly on the bedside table before she stripped, took a shower and then laid down in the bed, stretching out and had some music playing when she finally fell asleep. She even slept through the whole commotion of Drachen and Cale bringing the crib into the room.
She was fast asleep that it actually took her a moment to slowly wake as she heard someone singing happy birthday to her. stretching and smiling as she heard CAle's voice. '' mmmmm birthday?" opening her eyes she smiled and lightly kissed his cheek, enjoying the smell of him , his usual woodsy smell and of course him working in the shop." what have you been up to?" , she barely got a chance to sit up before he showed her the crib.
Her eyes going wide she slowly got up " oh my its beautiful!" going over to it quickly she traced her fingers over it lovingly , even over the writtings, '' is this what you where working on? its just gorgeous! i really love it!" she was right n front of him again , practically tackling him on the bed as she kissed him over and over again.

Drachen grinned at her—her response had thrilled him. “I have enough saved up in the bank to cover living expenses for three months. And if I need to I know Cale will always help me out, so long as I go on earning my keep.”

Cale was also thrilled by his lady’s reaction—he’d hoped she’d be pleased, but he wasn’t expecting to be tackled. He gave her a long, passionate kiss in return.
