When she turned to face him and she asked him why he didn't participate in any of the VA programs, he sighed. "I can't bring my self to do so." He half turned away. "I guess it is just that I don't feel as if I am worthy enought to." he shook his head. "They have paid a terrible price for their service and I am here whole with but a couple of scars from bullet wounds."

They made it to the car and he opened the door for her. He felt that he had come back better then any of those others that had. Yes he had nightmares but that was nothing compaired to so many others coming back with missing limbs, terribly scared. He had been lucky, and even more lucky to have found Dani to help him with his problem.

Dani bite her lower lip as he spoke and her heart stung as he turned away from her. She reached out and touched his arm in a silent way of saying I am here for you. She nodded as he said that he couldn’t bring himself to go. Her father had a hard time going too. She didn’t agree with him though he did deserve to go. And if she had to trick him into going she would get him there at least for one session. Dani couldn’t always be there especially with plays coming up. She looked up at him and pulled him in close. “My love, you served your country I think its your right to get help from it.” She kissed him lightly on the lips then walked with him.

As they reached the car she thanked him for letting her in then relaxed in the car. Then as they drove she rested his knee and she looked at him. The plan was already forming in her head. She would have to make some phone calls and talk to his mother wth out him knowing but it should be easy enough to do. She silenty prayed that it would work, she knew one of her fathers men had commited suicde after returning. And him like Alex seemd perfectly fine then just snapped one day and she didn’t want Alex to end up the same way.

Yes he had served his country, but those that really needed the VA programs and help, needed it more then him. All he had was the nightmares and Dani had helped with that by just being there with him. He had a lot to look forward to with her at his side. If she had not been there he had no idea of where he would be or what he might have turned into. Some of the Vets returned home to find their lives empty and nothing to return to. Wives had run off with another guy, girlfriends found others, no job, no nothing. Some turned to drugs, crime or just wandered the streets as homeless people. Some committed suicide.

But he had his mother to come home to and then he had found Dani who had now become an important part of his life. "I really don't need their help." he told her as they drove home. "I have something better then anything they can provide." he placed a hand on hers that was on his knee and squeezed it. When they got home he opened the door for her and helped her out of the car and then with an arm about her waist took her up to his room.

The rest of the week seemed to fly by again and it was Friday. He had showed Dustin the skimpy bikini his sister would be wearing and he had just rolled his eyes and shook his head. As school let out he swept Dani up into his arms and grinned. "Ahhh now for the hot tub party and you in that bikini." After the little party he had plans.

Dani had the plan formed in her mind and there would be no talking her out of it. She couldn’t tell Alex about it though for he would surely not go with her if he knew why they were going. But she really wanted him to go and relize that they were people like him that came back, or maybe he could help the ones that were worse off and through that help himself. She made a mental note to talk to his mother and then to call the VA and then all she would have to do is get Alex to the VA but she guessed with what she had in mind he wouldn’t mind. It might end in a agurment after words but she would deal with that when it came.

As they reached his house….well really there home now. She thanked him for helping her out. Then smiled. “Okay Alex” She said simply not really agree or disagreeing with him but just leaving the discussion alone for now. She smiled at him and kissed his lips softly as if to say that this want over yet. The rest of the week flew by between school, homework and sneaking around calling the VA and asking about classes that would be good for Alex she had found out the best classes for him and had gotten the approval from his mother. She had warned her that he would probably try to bolt when he found of her plan but Dani was perpared.

When Friday came she squeeled and Alex swept her up in his arms. “Alex put me down” she demaned but had wrapped her arms around his neck to stop him from doing so at the same time. She kissed him softly and nodded. “Well school just ended I doubt that we are suppose to go over there right now.” She giggled. “Unless we are going to have like a bbq frist or something like that” She kissed him again and then sighed. “I think I have changed my mind…I think I am going to wear a burka to the party instead” Her eyes sparkled machivously. "Oh is that so? Well then I will just have to strip that off of you and drag you naked into the hot tub. It had been kind of funny. At an away game at a rival school, some of the so called Bad Boys of that school had started to hassel Dustin and a couple of his team mates. Justin, Kyle, and a couple others of Alex's friends had walked up behind Dustin and the other two and told the "Bad Boys" that if they messed with Dustin and his friends, they messed with them. The others backed off and the Alex's friends became Dustin's friends as well as some of the team members.

"So lets get home and get ready for the party tonight." he put an arm about her as they left the school.

Dani giggled. “You wouldn’t dar-“ She caught herself. Once they were home Martha called Dani into the kitchen, Dani turned to Alex “Sweetie could you pack our bag, some towels, change of clothes in case I get cold, and you know that kind of stuff” In turth she just wanted to talk to his mother in private. Once she was sure it was safe she greted his mom. “Well the VA said that there is a metting for people just like Alex happening tommrow around three” Dani nodded. “Thank you Martha, I am going to tell him that I just want to check out some volenteer oportinites, you know get more hours in to graduate” In turth she could have graduated last year with all the credits she had, but she just needed some grade 12 courses. Martha nodded “Well good luck, he isnt going to like it, he migh get angry” Dani just smiled “I am fully prepared for him to hate me for a couple of weeks, but he will get over it” Martha just grinned “I doubt my son can be angry at you for that long” She paused and handed her a package, “Now you have to take one of these at the same time every day ” She nodded “In a couple months you can try the patch, you put one on and wear it for a week then you switch it then you leave it off for a week then you start over again” Dani nodded “Alright, thank you”

Dani turned around and went to their room. Then handed him the package. “See what I have to do every day” She teased. “I still say the man should have to take the pills” She flopped on the bed. “You know babe I still havent seen your swimsuit”

Alex went up to his room and packed a few things they would need, as Dani went to talk with his mother. As she returned he saw she had a prescription bottle in her hand with pills in it. I don't think they will work on men."

Alex chuckled. "Well I do not see much sleep for us tonight. Probably be back late. Sleep in some tommorow." He was wanting to relax and enjoy. They had a hard first quarter of the school year and it was time to unwind. "Don't get to comfortable my dear. They expect us over there in about an hour."

Dani went to roll over as he told her that they needed to get going, between school, homework and sneaking behind Alex's back to get him to the VA to the meeting she was mentaly exhausted she had found out that saturday and sunday afternoon they had mettings for people just like Alex the ones that came back more or less unscathed maybe had issues dealing with that it would be prefect for him to go to, and worse come to worse they went and he stromed off and she delt with his anger afterwords.

Once she was pulled up she sighed. "Alright Alright Alex I am coming" She rubed her eyes. She looked up at him "What do we need to pick up" Once they made it down staris she greated his mother with a knowing smile. Hugged her then waved a good bye "See you sometime Tommrow I guess" She then walked to the car with Alex ready for the night ahead.

Alex drove them to a shoping complex where they needed to get a few things. Some soda, chips and of course a few of the newer condums. He looked at Dani when he bought them to see what her reaction would be. Once they had what they needed, he drove them over to Debbie's place.

Alex had to grin himself. The looks and the actions of the other girls told him that the guys liked what they saw and made the girls a tad jelous. They would be working overtime on keeping their guys intrested in them and not in Dani. Dustin and Debbie had set up the bar area with the sodas and munchies. All there knew that they could have booze if they wanted it but also that it was more hassel then it was worth. Alex though he had drank beer while he was in, had not over done it nor did he care to drink the hard stuff.

He didn't know about Dustin, but it seemed that he had not drank beer or anything. He knew from talking to his new friends that they had drank and had a couple close calls with the police because of it and had decided that they prefered driving to walking. They had stopped. He moved the two of them to the bar and Alex looked at Dustin. "Well what do you think of your sister in this." he chuckled.

Dani was still a little unsure with all the stares but as long as Alex didnt stray too far from her she would be alright. She wasnt used to all the stares she had made a point on covering all her body when ever she had the chance to, and now it was open for all to see. She wondered for a scant second if anyone was staring at her scars and not just her prefect (if you took Alex opionion) body. But she pushed that thought from her head, study would state that 3/4 of the girls here would be involved in some kind of self harm, maybe now that she was no longer ashamed of it she would show others that there was hope.

Walking with Alex to the snack table she grinned at her brother. "Yes Dustin what do you think?" She then giggled as he stammered. Alex had to chuckle at Dustin's comment. It was indeed true. She looked quite different in the bikini then with alot of clothes on. Debbie on the other hand liked to wear tight fitting clothes, short skirts and the like to show off her body. Dani couldn’t stop smiling, her brother looked so happy, she had even forgotten to make sure he was still taking his meds. He hadnt, hadnt for nearly two weeks now. He had done that on purpose, slowly he had lessoned the meds, till he had stopped taking them all together. He had lucked out, Alex had kept her so busy that she had stopped checking up on him. He would have cheacked it if he had made her though he had to make sure that when he had his doctors appointment he would clear him for bootcamp, he had been working out with Debbie when he could, running, swimming , weight lifting amoung other things, the only thing stopping him now would be his mental exam, would they let him serve with his history?

Dani had noticed her brothers chest, it seemed more defined like he had been working out, she had figured it had been for Debbie and pushed it out of her mind. She kissed Alex again and smiled. “Well I hope to get a job at the local VA, infact tommrow I plan to go there and just check it out, Alex I hope you can drive me there” She knew she risked runining the party, but he couldn’t deny her infront of everyone, she only hopped that he wouldn’t read too much into it, she had spoken to Alex about getting a job at the VA, or at least Volentering to make sure that she had enough hours. “Yes I need to go there to bank some more hours before graduation” She shot a warning glance at Dustin to keep quiet, she had over a 100 extra hours and he knew that but she didn’t want everyone else knowing.

The others told what they were planning on doing. One was planning on going into the buisness that his father was doing, another was going off to collage to become a lawyer. His long time desire was to get into politics and becoming a lawyer was the first step. Alex's friends that were not on the more rich side of town, both planned to go into the military. One was going into the air force, "Doubt that I will be going to become an officer but, I want to fly in those big birds. The other had decided on the Army. "Go in get more education, go to OCS and become an officer."

Alex had heard that before, some from his basic training company had said they were going to do that and only a couple actually made it. Dani's desire to help others coming back from the war made him proud of her. "Yeah I will take you over there in the morning." he told her
