Alex didn't answere any questions, he just kept ahold of Dani and headed for the limo. Once inside he relaxed a bit. When Dani kissed him on the cheek he smiled and when she asked if he wanted her to clean off the lipstick, he chuckled, "Might be a good idea." He leaned back in the seat and looked over at his mother. She was smiling and it seemed like she was looking at someone else as she looked at him and Dani.

In Mary's mind she saw her husband and her sitting there. Alex was almost the spitting image of him. Having two men that served in the army and served proudly and with distinction, made her very proud. First her husband and now her son, and at his side Dani. Such a lovely woman that had helped Alex so much and had helped many others at the VA center. She then looked over at Dustin and Debbie. He was like another son now to her. He was following in his father's footsteps and was well on his way to being everything that he was.

Alex held onto one of Dani's hands as the procession of limos moved through the streets of Washington D.C. Soon enough the limos all pulled up one at a time at the White House and unloaded their passengers. The news media was there in force, TV cameras, reporters and the whole nine yards, along with the normal White House correspondants that normaly sat in on the President's speaches and asked him questions. The Secretary of the Army was there welcoming each of Alex's squad as they got out of their limo along with the Chief of Staff and a number of congresmen and senators. Finally it was thier turn to emerge. The door was opened for them and first Dustin and Debbie got out with her parents and then Alex emerged to the clicking of cameras and another round of questions from reporters. He looked at them for a second and then helped Dani and his mother from the car.

Once they were out he again took Dani's hand and held it, standing straight an professional. He smiled for the cameras and shook the Secretary of the Army's hand as they were the last, he walked with Dani and him up the stairs to the front of the White House where the ceremony was to happen. The families of the squad members were escorted to seats and as they approached, Mary was escorted to one of honor in the front of them all. Dani was not but was escorted with Alex to the others, who stood in a line at attention. The Army Chief of Staff, along with the President emerged from the White house and Alex and his squad came to Attention, and Alex had to let go of Dani's hand. He took in a deep breath and slowly let it out.

The President went to the podium that was before them as they faced the crowded front of the White House. He began to speak to the reporters and America that was watching. He spoke of how Alex and his men were the eptomie of the American Soldier, that thought nothing about putting their own lives on the line especially to protect the inocent. He went on and on about them and their deed and at last how due to Alex a calm had settled over Bagdad and was spreading to other cities.

Finally he turned and with the Army Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Army approached Alex and his squad. First came his squad members. As one of the White House Staff moved to the podium and began reading the awards presentations. They each received the Silver Star and Alex thought that he would be receiving one also. But when award was read off of what he had done that day, putting his life in jepordy to give supressing fire to aid his squad members again and again and being wounded twice in doing so, only to rise both times to continue his supportive fire, the wording was completely different. Then came the last and the bomb shell. That he was being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. His eyes went wide and the president smiled as he put the medal about his neck. "Well done son." he said as he shook his hand. Next the Army Chief of Staff stepped infront of him saluting him. Alex returned the salute and then shook his hand. More followed but the ceremony was not done.

Then he stepped infront of Dani, "You are here to receive something as well. Your service, help and desire to help our soldiers have not gone unnoticed." he said quietly. The speaker then began to read the award that she was to receive. It spoke of her help at the VA center to bring the wounded and mentally hurt soldiers back to a normal life, the saving of two soldiers during the attack on the battalion encampment. The President then placed the Outstanding Civilan Service Award about her neck. He then stood back and turned to the reporters and others.

Only once they were in the limo she realized that Alex had not answered any questions nor did Alex or Dustin she would be keeping silent the next time they stopped. She took a napkin from her purse and poured a little water on it then cleaned off Alex’s cheek. “There all better” She then smiled and Mary she knew that she saw her and Alex’s father, se also knew that both fathers were watching down on them. She had come so far. Alex had saved her, and now her brother she would never be able to repay him. She had forgotten all that she had done for him but right now she was thinking too hard about meeting the president and watching her brother and Fiancé get rewarded for their actions.

She was also excited to get home, home to her pets and the Veterns, she knew that they would all be worried about her. She smiled up at Alex and nuzzled his neck showing him her love for him. Her attention turned to Dustin. “Brother I must say I am very proud of you” She squeezed Alex’s hand “I am proud of both of you”

She began to tear up and Debbie had to calm her down

“Now no crying Dani you are going to cause your mascara to run”

“I am fine just happy” Dani said and dabbed her eyes to stop it from running. She looked out the window and sighed, they were on USA soil but they were not home and Dani doubted she would be able to fully relax until they made it back to their home.

When they stopped her heart began to quicken and she grew a little nervous. She didn’t want to face the cameras again. People were calling her a hero and that did not sit well with Dani she was not a hero, Dustin and Alex and their squads were the heroes. The ones still fighting were the heroes the ones that did not make it home, and the families forced to carry on without them were the heroes even their fathers were heroes but she was not.

As Alex helped her out she smiled at him and lightly, so not to leave a mark kissed his cheek, the cameras went crazy and she stood beside him so all the cameras had a equal chance to get a shot. She was smiling but she was still nervous she held on to Alex’s hand. When they started walking Dani smiled again. She was going to be able to sit down and watch her brother and Alex get much deserved rewards

When they got inside though Dani found out that was not to be. When she tried to take a seat beside Mary and Debbie she was ushered back behind Alex. Dani was a bit confused and the person explained that she was to stand beside Alex the people wanted to see her. Or at least that’s what he said. He didn’t want Dani to freak out about receiving an award.

Dani was fine to stand between Alex and Dustin that’s where she was placed. When the president came in and Alex and to let go of her hand she tried to stand straight. She wasn’t military but she knew that respect was due.

As the entire squads received their awards Dani stood proud when Dustin his she smiled broadly. When Alex got his, she knew it was a large award Dani lost her composer and gasped and a few chuckled in the crowd. She whipped away a tear. She thought she had figured out why they had her stand here. Alex had been shocked.

It wasn’t until the man stepped in front of Dani and whispered that she realized the real reason that she was up here. She bit her lower lip nervously and grasped for Alex’s hand. She heard the speaker talk about all she did. Dani didn’t think anything of it but it seemed that everyone else saw it has something big.

When the award was hung around her neck next to her father’s dog tags and Alex’s class ring. She looked up at the president and smiled. As a civilian she didn’t saulte but she felt as if she should. She instead nodded her head. “I promise you I am not done” She whispered then she looked up at Dustin and Alex then back to the crowd and smiled. She was still dazed as she was certain Alex was.

Mary and Debbie were clapping and clicking pictures. Dani looked skyward as if she could see her father. Took his dog tags and kissed them then smiled for all the cameras waiting for instruction.

When Dani received her award, Alex was again bewildered and shocked. He had no idea that she was going to receive an award and it was quite evident that she had no idea as well. He looked back at his mother and saw the grin on her face. She had known. She had known all along what they were going to receive and had not said a word. He shook his head and smiled.

A man stepped up to the podium and spoke to the reporters. They moved forward and the man, who he figured was the presidents press secretary had them ask questions one at a time. Some were directed at the squad members and others at Alex. He was asked why he chose to make the stand, what was going through his mind, what it felt like to be honored as a hero. He answered them the best that he could. Then one asked why he went out to talk to the insurgent and what did he tell the man. That was a hard question to answer. He did his best to explain why he went out from the protection of the Burm and expose himself to possible attack. Then what they talked about.

Then it was Dani's and Dustins turn to answere questions. They asked her about her work at the VA Center, how did she get herself over to Iraq, what did she think of Alex's actions. For Dustin, what happened to him, how did he get captured, what did they do to him, how did he find out that the young man was the grandson of the Prime Minister.

Finally the press secretary held his hand up and stopped the questions. The Squad, Alex, Dustin, and Dani along with their families were escorted inside the White House for a scocial event. Here they would be hob nobing with the politicians, all probably wanting to use them to their own ends. There was music, dancing, food and drink. Once inside he hugged his mother. "You knew all the time didn't you?"

"Yes I did. Didn't want to spoil the moment." she chuckled. "The look on your faces were priceless and worth it." she kissed him on the cheek. "Now go enjoy yourselves. Later we will be flying out on a private jet back home."

Dani stood there still in a state of shock. She had received the highest honour given to a civilian. Of course she did not think that she deserved it in her mind she only did what every decent person would have done. The work in the VA was more of a hobby then anything she had no schooling. She had figured out that is what she would do, go to school to learn how to do what she was already doing.

She licked her lips a little nervous about all the pictures being taken. She hoped that the reporters would be respectful of her father. She smiled up at Alex. She was so proud of him she had a feeling that both her brother and him would be getting other awards once home, both of them had been injured in the line of duty so a purple heart was in order.

Dani tensed slightly when they began talking about what happened on the burm she remembered all too clearly being taken from a dead sleep to the bunker, then the two men falling on her and her thinking she had killed them, she remembered climbing up top and seeing her dear Alex talking to the insurants. She remembered the fear being held back by many of his men. The threats that she had thrown at both Alex and Dustin.

When the questions started to be asked of her she smiled and responded

“I work with Vets, many had been told they would never walk again, well as you can tell I am stubborn, some call me a miracle but I just know how to connect to people” She licked her lips. “I am sure I am called a few names behind my back, but what I do seems to work” She looked up at Alex. “Each person is different” She continued talking about how she had planned to carry on in it and go to schooling if she could. She knew Alex wouldn’t be too shocked or at least he shouldn’t be it was where her heat was

When asked how she made it to Iraq she grinned. “Again that is my stubbornness” She took a deep breath. “It was my birthday and I got the knock on the door informing me that my brother” At this point her voice cracked and she had to take a breath to calm down. “That my brother had been captured” She shook her head. “My world was crumbling. In the time that it took Alex to come to me I had decided that some how or other I would get to Iraq”

She smiled “Well Alex here having faced my stubbornness before knew that he had two choices, me getting to Iraq safely or not so, he made some phone calls and after about 100 shots I was on the airplane”

When asked about Alex’s actions she took his hand and kissed it. “I was proud of him, although I did threaten to duct tape him to the bed if he ever scared me like that again” There was a bit of laughter in the audience then Dani continued “I am proud of Alex and I will always be proud of him”

She sighed a breath of relive when her questions period stopped. She listened to Dustin, who like she seemed to hate all of the attention.

Finally it was all over and she walked with Alex and Dustin and watched as he hugged his mother. She knew that there would be more questions, but it might pay off, she was in need of a scholarship to be able to go to school.

She smiled at Mary. “How I have missed you, how is Skye and Comet?” She asked of her animals she knew that when she got home they would not let her out of her sight. The thought of home made her smile more. A bath, going to the VA to see her friends and just being home would be so good. Home cooked meals not having to fear going outside and making sure that Alex and Dustin were okay with no nightmares. She was concerned about Alex’s new injuries though.

She stayed close to Alex though. She felt out of place here, nearly the only one not in a uniform. She lightly kissed Alex’s cheek. “Welcome home my love”

All the Generals abd Colornels from the different branches of service, senators, and congressmen and some foreign dignataries was alot to take in. The food was marvelous and interesting. Alex sampled this and that and watched his squad members do the same. It looked as if their families loved hobnobing with the elite of Washington DC. The Congressman that had helped them get Dani to Iraq approached. "Never thought you would be big news when I helped you get over to Iraq." he chuckled, and took a sip of the drink he was carrying. He looked at Dani, "Going to keep you on the payroll. I understand that you will be wanting to go to collage to get a degree in the work you are doing with the Vets. You won't have to worry about financial aid."

Alex had wondered about what she was going to do. Now Dani had nothing baring her from going to collage. That he knew would keep her busy while he was deployed again. His mind would be at ease, knowing she was being kept busy with collage and work at the VA center. Hopefully it would keep her mind off of what he would be doing. After alot more talk, small talk and meeting people Alex was ready to get out of there. He looked around and saw that his squad members and Dustin were getting the same way. They were not the type to be at such a function. They were just common people and were more suited to parties where common people were in attendance.

Before long Alex made it known that he was ready to get home for a bit and then back to his unit. His squad members joined him along with Dustin. Their families and them were escorted out and back to the limos and were soon on their way to the airport. A private plane awaited them to fly them to their different destinations. All their things had been packed up and delivered to the plane during the party and now all they had to do was relax and enjoy the flight. It took only a few hours to fly to Texas. The trip was restful, no one wanting to take pictures and ask questions.

Once the plane landed and pulled up to the gate Alex, Dani, Dustin and Debie, her parents and Mary was let off the plane and then it was refuled and backed out to be on its way to its next destination. In the terminal, Military Police and Civilian police kept the reporters and crowd back and were escorted to waiting cars. These took them to Fort Hood and to the air field there. A large chopper was already getting ready to lift off when they arrived. It was more ov a civilian type that was used to transport dignataries and such. With in an hour they were landing at the small airport at their home town and transportation was already awaiting them along with the mayor, city council, and almost the entire city. As they came off the chopper, the crowd broke out in applause and cheers.

The mayor came forward as well as the Judge that Mary worked for. "All is ready Mary." The Judge said to her. Mary smiled and nodded and then looked as if she had swallowed the chesire cat. There was something else that she had been up to.

"What have you got going now mother?" Alex asked.

"You will see my dear. Very soon now." she laughed and ushered him and Dani to the waiting car.

Dani still stuck close to Alex, she had not slept well and she was only anxious to get home but she was polite. She sampled the food along with Alex, since she was not 21 yet she was not allowed to drink. It brought a couple jokes her way. The fact that she had gone to a war zone saved two men lives and helped others. She didn’t mind though, she felt a little more relaxed without all the cameras. She talked to the people and the generals, many wanted her to speak to their men, they all seemed in awe about her Dani wasn’t sure how to take all of the attention but when the attention turned to her work she relaxed, and when they mentioned how proud her father would be of her she smiled and nodded.

“Thank you” She took the dog tags and kissed them softly, She always kept a eye on Alex and Dustin though, she was worried about both of them and how they were handling all the attention.

When the congressman came forward with his comment she blushed slightly “I know sir” She would have gone on but what he said next shocked her.

“Really?” She grinned up at Alex. “You hear that your fiancé is off to collage” She grinned “Thank you Sir I will not fail you” She would have a busy schedule when Alex returned to duty, she would be going to school, being working at the VA and working for the congressman, also getting together and sending care packages to Alex and Dustin.

She turned to the congressman, “Again thank you” She felt nervous though, Alex would be doing his next deployment alone, without her. She also knew that her being home safe would make it easier on him. She was just happy to be home, she would worry about him deploying when it came for now she would just enjoy his company.

Finally they were heading back to the limos. She leaned into Alex as they made it to the airplane she was shocked about the private jet though. She finally let out the breath that she seemed to have been holding forever there was no one asking questions no one taking pictures only her and Alex. She kissed his cheek softly and smiled. Soon they would be home and he could get into more comfy clothes and she could have a bath and everything would get back to normal.

The rest of the flight was a blur and when they landed in Fort Hood she nodded her head in respect, wishing she had time to talk to the people here. She was very grateful for the police holding the media back though

She climbed upon the helicopter and had a flash back of when Alex was offloaded one of these she squeezed his hand and sat down. “Have I told you lately that I love you Alex Morgan?” She kissed him again and rested her head on his chest.

Finally once home she gasped at the sight of the whole town out to great them. “Oh Alex look!” She explained. She smiled and waved but stopped and turned her attention to Mary and the Mayor.

“What is ready?” She turned to Alex. “Alex Morgan what has your mother planned?” She eyed them carefully thinking that Alex had something to do with it but when he looked as dazed as she did she assumed that he knew nothing just like her.

When they were in the car she looked at Mary.

“So do we get a hint on what you got planned?” She figured it was a welcome back party for Alex and Dustin, two returning war heroes. As much as they both hated to admit it Alex and Dustin were heroes in her mind and there was nothing going to change that.

Sitting in the car she watched as the town went by how she had missed it.

“I have an idea, how about a pool party and Debbie’s? I could really use a soak in the tub” She turned to Alex. “As long as your wounds have healed”

Mary would not tell Alex or Dani what she had been doing, but by the way Debbie was grinning and snickering, she knew what was going on. Mary gave Debbie a look and wagged her finger at her and Debbie put a hand to her mouth. "You two will find out soon enough." she grinned and whispered something to the judge who chuckled. Behind the baracades the towns people now waited. Some took pictures and of course the local news crews and newspaper reporters were there. There was not much more to be reported but one never knew what might come up.

The mayor guided them towards cars. Alex could not wait to be away from so many people. He wanted the peace and quite of his own home. He waved at the crowd as he moved towards the cars and saw a few of the friends he had made at the High School when he helped Dani out. A few of them had the buzz hair cuts telling him they had joined the military themselves. This made him grin. He moved over to shake their hands and speake with them. Only a few words, mainly of encouragement and appreciation. Even a few of the girls that they had befriended had seemed to join the military. The city had changed drasticly since he had come back the first time.

But soon enough they were once more in cars but this time heading home. Even Debbie and her parents with Dustin were heading there. The house was not surrounded like he had feared, but quiet and peaceful. He had a feeling the Mayor and police had something to do with that. But inside the house was not quite the quiet and peaceful place he hoped. Inside were two women that he had not seen before. Mary moved past Alex and Dani. This is Mrs Mitchel and Mrs Huntington. LTC Mitchel's wife and Captain Huntington's wife." At once Alex knew who they were. His battalion and company commander's wives.

Mary took Dani by the arm and moved her over to a manaquin that had a wedding dress on it. On another one, a male one, was the dress blue uniform of the army. "You have three days before the big moment. Hope you don't mind if I have pushed the date up some." Mary said. "But right now I figured would be the best time for it." That is when Dani's father's entire squad came in from the kitchen. All of them had a big grin on their faces. The two women gently took Dani from Alex and lead her over to the dress. "Just enough time to make sure the dress fits and to do a rehersal." They grinned as one took the dress off the dummy and headed up stairs and the other one guided Dani upstairs.

Alex was dumfounded and at a loss for words. Debbie was giggling and hugging Dustin's arm.

Although Dani was a bit nervous about what Mary had planned. She was certain that a surprise party would not be wise, but Mary would know that. She sighed as she realized that she was not going to get even a hint. She saw Mary whisper but couldn’t catch it, she raised a brow towards Debbie but she was no help.

Smiling at Alex when he walked over to the barricades she smiled and walked to him and smiled to the girls and even hugged them. She handed out her card out to them. “Email me your info and I will be glad to send you care packages” They all nodded and promised they would. Dani had a feeling the whole community would help her with the care packages, doing drives and having collections.

She smiled up at Alex, it felt good to be home the town had changed so much. She gladly walked back to the car though. She was getting tired of her picture being taken. There were sure to be some horrible ones, like her squinting at the sun, or when she had sneezed, she hoped the reporters wouldn’t publish those type.

When the car turned on to their street she held her breath. She like Alex felt nervous about the house being surrounded with more people but she didn’t have to worry the yard and surrounding area was clear. She breathed a sigh of relive then softly took Alex’s hand and kissed it.

“We are home baby” She whispered. Her eyes were misty she was so happy to be home, happy that she had both her brother and her fiancé home. She was looking forward to a bath and sleeping in a comfortable bed, and seeing her pets. She had forgotten for the moment about the surprise that she had for them.

When they opened the door the thought of a nice bath left her mind. There were people there that she had never seen. She was going to walk with Alex to the two ladies but instead she was lead over to two mannequins one with a beautiful wedding dress on it. Full length with a sweet heart cut, sleeveless she gasped and turned to Mary.

“Three days?” She shook her head, there was so much to do, her hair, nails and so much to plan. She was about to say that her father’s squad had to be there but it was then that her father’s squad all walked through the kitchen door. She gasped and would have ran to them but she was being led upstairs she smiled at them

“I will be right back, I cant believe you are here”

Once upstairs she smiled. “Let me have a quick shower so I don’t mess up the dress.” She put a shower cap on and had a quick shower to get rid of the travel grim then she dried and put on the special under garments including the under dress. Then she walked out and tried on the dress. It fit perfectly. She was surprised. The laces would have to be pulled an extra tight but other then that it looked great on her.

The tears began to fall as she looked in the mirror. “Its prefect, I was going to make one, but this is even better then I could even imagine.”

Mary grinned and passed her a army coloured garter belt. Dani giggled. “Now Alex will be surprised” She looked in the mirror as a veil with a super long train was put on her.

“Its Cathedral length typical for a Army wedding but it will detach for the reception.” Mary explained.

Dani was still in shook. “Thank you so much, this is a great surprise” Her mind was whirling there was so much still to do or so she thought.

“This is a great welcome home” She twirled in the dress again. “How did you know that I wanted my fathers squad here?”

Mary lips were in a constant smile as Dani tried on the dress and was so happy about it. "We took the measurements from your Prom Dress and had your wedding dress made to that. " She told Dani. "Now don't you worry about anything." Mary told her. "Everything has been taken care of. Invitations have already been delivered, all your new friends from school, and a few others. The church is already arranged as is the reception hall."

Mrs Mitchel came up to Dani. "When your mother called Fort Hood to talk to someone about arranging a military wedding and they found out who for the contacted me." She smiled at Dani, "and call me Kim." she said sweetly. "Mary told us you and Alex wanted to wait till he got back from this deployment to get married, but we convinced her you two should not wait. So Lara here and I came up and helped Mary with everything." she chuckled. "I have had a bit of experience with my own wedding and a couple other military weddings I helped with." She smoothed out the dress some and smiled."

When Dani asked about her father's squad, Mary laughed. "I think it was Alex that told me you wanted them at your wedding. They have all said they are going to give you away. " she chuckled again.

Down stairs the men surrounded Alex and began talking to him. "Well now we have a bachelor party tommorow for you to attend young man." they slapped him on the back. "One last wild fling before you tie the knot forever. " they were all grinning and chuckling.

Debbie was bunching up and down happy as can be. "Isn't this great, Dustin. This town has never seen a wedding like this one is going to be." Dustin held her in his arms and laughed. Who would have guessed that Dani would have gotten here like this. They had been two kids that had been struggling to make it through High School with out people knowing that their mother had ran off and left them. Now it seemed the whole town was out to help them make Dani's dream come true.

Alex broke away from Dani's father's squad and looked at Dustin. "Well you are not getting off scott free. You are going to be the best man." he grinned and turned to the others, "Looks like we will need another set of Dress Blues." Then it hit him. "The wedding rings!"

The mayor came forward at that and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Tommorow before the rehersal, the jewler will be here with a number of rings for you to choose from." He turned to every one there, "Now I think it is time for them to have a bit of time alone at home." He went upstairs and spoke to Mary and she turned to Dani. "Kim and Lara will help you out of the dress. When you are changed come on down and say hello and good night to everyone."

Dani couldnt belive what has happening. She was standing infront of a mirror in the most prefect wedding dress. She found it funny that it was white but she felt as if she deserved the white dress. She smiled at the ladies "Everything is prefect thank you" She begain to tear up again. Only a day before she had been in a war zone and now she was standing in her bedroom in a wedding dress about to marry the man that she loved.

She whiped away the tears and thanked the ladies again. Then nodded. "Well Alex remembered that I wanted my fathers squad to give me away, since my father can not be here in person" Hearing that everything was already planned it felt as if a huge weight had been lifted. All that realy needed to be done would be hairdo's she figured were they got their hair done for grad would be the best place.

She smiled "Well I guess I should pick my wedding party, Debbie of course, and a few of my friends from school, if they havent deployed yet." She couldnt belive that soon she would be married. Not only to Alex but also to the Army she knew how it worked but she was fine. Suddenly she looked at Mary "What about some of my friends from the VA?"

When she heard foot steps she attempted to hide thinking it was Alex she wanted him to be surprised. Luckily it wasnt. Once she was out of the dress and into a pair of jeans and a shirt she walked down stairs.

She walked up to her fathers squad who all hugged her. Many had misty eyes. "Your father would be so proud of you" The Sgt said then looked at Dustin "Both of you" Then to Alex "And I know he would have given you the blessing for this wedding" Dani was grining. "Well we will be seeing you soon" The men all nodded. Amazed that she had done so much since her father's death they were all proud of her.

She said good bye to everyone thanking them and then walked to Alex and wrapped her arms around his neck. "So my love this is your last chance to run away" She teased and nuzzled his neck. "I love you Alex Morgan"

Finally when they were alone she flooped down on the couch and her cat and dog snuggled into her and relaxed. Dani was just happy to be home, but she was not looking forward to tonight, she had to find a way to sleep alone so Alex wouldnt figure out about her dream that she had, in case they came back.

"We have talked to all your friends and it was a hard decision to make on who was going to be the brides maids, since everyone was wanting to be. But we let them hash it out and......." she handed her the list of names. "Everyone else will be there even the people you worked with at the VA Center. This city hasn't known such excitement since..... well I can't remember when." she laughed.

It had been one crazy and busy day for them. The awards ceremony, the banquet after, the flight home, the welcome at the airport, and then the bombshell that his mother and the wives of the battalion and company commander had pushed up and arranged everything for his and Dani's wedding. Even her father's old squad was there. It was a lot to take in at one time.

Then the Squad leader of the squad told him that they had his batchelor party scheduled for the next night and that the next day was to be a rehersal for the wedding. Now he didn't know what to think. It was all happening so fast now. When his mother came back downstairs with Dani, she hugged him again, "Oh don't worry Alex. Everything will be fine." Then Dani came up to him and wrapped her arms about his neck. "Oh no, your not getting rid of me that easy." he chuckled. He wrapped his arms about her and pulled her to him. "I can not think of anything better to do then marry you." he kissed her deeply and then let her go.

As she flooped down on the couch, it was just his mother, him, Dani, Dustin and Debbie. Everyone else had finally left. Mary looked at the two. "Now for the next couple days." she said in a firm voice. "The two of you will be sleeping in seperate rooms." she held up a hand and a finger wagging at Alex. "Only proper and of course the seperation will only make the wedding night even more fun." again she laughed. "Now off to bed with both of you. Dustin you take Debbie home and get yourself to bed as well." she gave him a look and he grinned and gave her a mock salute. "Yes Mam."

Once she was on the couch it all really hit her, she was going to be married. She was homesafe, after being shot at on the way to the base camp, seeing her brother and Alex nearly killed on TV, had two men drop on her when the base was under attack again. She looked around her eyes landing on the pictue of her father. She knew that he would proud of Dustin and Her, and that he would approve of Alex.

The weight of the day was beginning to ware on her, although she had slept slightly on the Plane, the awards cerremony, were she had beed surprised while given an award. Then the banquet and all of the questions she was wanting a bubble bath, although it had only been a couple of weeks since a bath she felt like it had been so much more.

She felt guilty about the way she had been with her fathers squad, twice they had come to see her and both times she had not been the best company but she hopped that they understood that the first time she was in shock and this time she was suffering from a bit of Jet lag. They of course all understood and were proud of her that she had withstood all that she had been through, and had saved two lives. She licked her lips on the couch.

When Mary told them that they would be sleeping in diferent beds, her eyes went wide for a moment then nodded "Hmmm sounds good to me" She grinned to Alex, covering up that she was frightend about her dreams ."You think you can handle three nights there my nympho"

Standing she said good by to Debbie and Her brother. Thne kissed Alex agian. "I am thinking of a bubble bath before I go to bed" She then whispered in his ear "Alone" She then playfully smacked his ass. Walked over to his mother and hugged her. "Thank you for everything" She then stopped "I wonder if my mother has heard all of these news?" She shook her head and smiled "She wouldnt care if she had, she abandoned us and I dont want her at the wedding even if she has heard"

Then she walked into her bedroom grabbed her night gowns, her pets faithfully followed her even into the bathroom, she ran her bath light a few candles then stepped in and simply relaxed. After a while she would get out and dry and dress for bed then she would go to her room, but she doubted if she would sleep a mixture of all that had happened, her upcommign wedding, and then her fears she didnt know if she wanted to risk it, also if Mary wanted them to sleep in separte rooms, would Alex have dreams?

Alex was about to protest but he knew his mother and knew better then to try and argue. He could but sigh and nod and watch as Dani went upstairs. He sat down on the couch for a bit as his mother also went up to her room. This time it felt different coming home. The last time he had been a bit angry for having to leave the army, now it was more of a homecoming but he had only been gone a short time. He turned on the TV and flipped through the channels.

He caught one that had the news on it and it was about him and his squad getting their awards by the president. Then it switched to a video tape of one of the Clerics that was wanted by the US for inciting Jahad, and ordering so many to their deaths. He said in his message to ignore the infadils words and return to killing the Americans and their allies. He went on and on about how great Al Quida was and more. One could see he had a worried look on his face, for he knew that his power was slipping through his fingers and he didn't like it.

This one was somewhere in Iran, well away from the Americans and those he once commanded. The reporter came back on and said that it seemed that the video that had been just released a couple hours before, had no effect on the peace that seemed to be sweeping the country of Iraq. There had been no bombings, no IED's going off, no hostilities what so ever. Several more hardliners that tried to stir up trouble had been found bound and gagged before military barracks. Alex smiled and wondered about the man he had talked to beyond the burm that night. He would like to meet up with him again to thank him for listening.

Perhaps one day he would find him again. At least he hoped he would. Turning off the TV he went up to his own room. It felt a bit lonely without Dani there. He sighed and took his own shower and then went to bed. He knew the next few days were going to be busy and he was going to need all the rest he could get. He didn't even know when he fell asleep. He woke up in the morning feeling great. He couldn't remember any of his dreams, which probably was a good thing.

Mary was already up and hearing him moving about called to him from the hall way. "Up and at em boy. Got the wedding rehersal this morning and Dani has her bridal shower after that." then he heard her knocking on Dani's door, "Time to get up you have a busy day today." she said in a happy voice.

Dani felt guilty for leaving Alex on the couch, she just wasnt feeling herself .She laid down in the bath and clsoed her eyes. She was happy to be home, but she felt as if she hadnt finished her job over in Iraq, and with her going back to school she wouldnt be going back with Alex or her brother when they went back. Sighing she washed herself blew out the candles and had a quick shower.

When she stepped out she dried herself and dressed then walked to Alex's room she wanted to say good night but she heard his shower going and sighed and went to her room, after hours of laying there she finally fell asleep.

In the morning she was awoken by Marys knock, she smiled and stretched and opened the door, "Morning I will be down in a bit"

She closed the door and dressed in some jeans and a nice top, underwear too of course and brushed her hair and put it up then put on a bit of makeup hopefully hididng some of the dark circles. She then walked down stairs and greated Mary. "So what is on the plan for today?"

She knew that there would be no time for her to go check in with the VA yet, not too see her people which made her a little sad or to see a shrink which did not make her sad, she didnt want to talk about it, she shouldnt be feeling how she felt, she was not a fighter.

She looked around for Alex as she sat down at the table.

He finished dressing and came down stairs and moved up behind Dani as she sat at the table. He bent down and kissed her check. "Good morning." he said and sat down next to her. Mary put plates infront of them with breakfast and then took a seat herself. "Well my young newlyweds to be, you have a full schedule today." she told them. She looked at her watch. "The Jewler should be here in a haf hour with the various rings for you to look at. Then we will be going down to the church for the rehersal. This afternoon You....." she looked at Dani, "and I will be going to your bridal shower." It looked as if Mary was having the time of her life with the wedding plans and all.

Of course it was for her only son and Dani, who she looked upon as a daughter. Having her as a daughter in law was perfect. She knew that all that was going on was alot to take in but with the way things were at the moment, it was the best time for them to have the wedding that Dani wanted so badly. Who could say no to those that had gone through hell and come back, and in the process brought peace to an area of the world that had not known any for a number of years. She wanted them to have what they wanted the most before it became only a dream.

So her and the two commander's wives had worked long hours to get everything ready in a few days, that normally would take months. She looked at the two of them love in her eyes an pride as well. Both heros in the eyes of many and an example for the entire country. "So eat up you will need the energy." she smiled.

Grinning when Alex came down stairs she leaned into his kiss, "Good morning my love" She grasped his hand and kissed him. She felt bad on how she had treated him the last night and she wanted make it up to him. She just wanted to explain that she was still not mentally home, she still really wasnt but she was doing better.

When the food came and Mary began talking about their day she guessed she wasnt going to have much free time. She raised an eyebrow at the sound of a bridal shower, "Ohh does that mean I get some hot male strippers?" She giggled and patted Alex's arm. "I am just kidding my love!" She was amazed that this was all coming together so fast, she had planned on spending the next 12 months that he would have been deployed to plan a wedding but now her wedding was only a few days.

She ate up then excused herself and pulled Alex up and pulled him outside she licked her lips and looked up at him. "Baby I just wanted to apologize for last night, I know I was a bit distant, it was just a lot too take in" She looked down at his hands wanting for his reply. She knew this would likely be the last chance that she would have to talk to him like this for at least the day.

When Dani pulled him aside and apoliged for being so distant the previous night, he understood. Even he was overwhelmed by everything. He simply took her into his arms and held her to him. By the time they had eaten breakfest and cleared the table a knock came at the door. Mary went and answered it and brought a man into the kitchen. "This is Mr. Engle from Engle Jewlers." she said. The man smiled and looked at both Alex and Dani. He sat a briefcase on the table and opened it. "Now there is a few choices here." he pulled out three sets of rings. "These are ones I thought you might like. Some people like the larger type or wild type things. But I thought you would like something more simple yet unique and memorable."

He laid out a set of gold bands with an inlaid silver design. Another was of white gold, the mans a solid white gold band, while the women's was encrusted with small diamonds. The third set was styled after military style officer rings, those that they get after their graduation from academies. But the mans and women's was made of white gold with a thin ruby as the stone instead of a red glass piece.

Alex looked at Dani to see which set she liked. He would go with what ever she chose. But he picked them up and looked them over. All three sets were beautiful and he knew it was probably going to be a hard choice to make. "Well which one do you like." he asked her, "Should say which one do you like the most." he chuckled, for all of them he liked.

Although Alex didnt verbal excuse her behavior somehow just the hug and the fact of him holding her felt a lot better she knew that he would understand. She sighed in his hug and then went inside to help clean up from breakfast. It felt good to be home. Although her body still felt it was carrying all the heavy body armour. She kept triying to shake them off only to relize that nothing was on her.

She was grateful when the ring man came, and even more grateful when the man said that they would have only 3 choices. She was also glad that none of them were too flashy she wasnt up for that. She liked the smaller ones with more meaning more. Looking over them then at Alex it seemed that he had it in his mind that she would have to chose.

She licked her lips as her eyes fell on the military type one. She lifted it up and smiled. "Well I like this one my love, what do you think?" She looked it over. "See with this ring, even with my work at the VA I would be able to wear it because it wouldnt be too big and get in the way"

Alex had a funny feeling that she would go for the military looking rings. Even though she was not military herself, her father was and he and her brother also. He had to admit he liked them as well. He nodded and turned to the Jeweler, I guess it has been decided." he chuckled. The man grinned and packed everything up. He then sized Dani's finger and his and noted it.

"They will be ready this afternoon for pick up." he told them. He shook both Dani's and Alex's hands "It is an honor and a great pleasure to be the one making your wedding rings." he then left to go back to his shop to get the rings ready.

"Well now that didn't take long." Mary said. "We have a couple hours before the rehersal and I know that the preacher will want to run through it a couple of times." She wrote down the address and phone number and the time to be there. "Everyone will be there at this time so don't be late." she grinned and grabbed her purse. "I have a few earands to run before that time so I will see you there." When she left the house, Alex moved up behind Dani and put his arms around her. "It looks as if your wish is coming true." he whispered in her ear, "Are you happy my love?" he just held her close to him enjoying the feeling of her in his arms.

Looking up at Alex as she made her choice she couldnt figure if he was happy with it or not. She had only said what one she liked best he didnt have to chose that one too though. She watched the Jewler pack everything up and felt the panicking feeling again, soon and very soon she was going to be married, and then she would a wife saying good bye to a husband. She shook her head, she wanted to focus on this happy time right now.

She grinned to Mary "What can I say, Military blood runs in my veins, and I am going to marry a Soldier I figured it would be for the best." She nodded to the instructions So they would have a couple hours, she wasnt sure if it was a good thing or not.

When he whispered she turned around and threw her arms around his neck and grinned. "Hmmm me happy?" She winked "Is there a reason why I would be happy?" She giggled and then kissed his lips sofly. "I am very happy my love" She nuzzled his neck. "So I have a a bridal shower and you have a bachlor party" She shook her head "Its all happening so fast" She looked up at him. "I love you and I want to spend my life with you, but I dont want you to feel pressured" She watched him "Just dont do it to me at the Alter"

She was giving him one last chance to get out she was clearly nervous that they would end up like most Military marriages...divorced. She suckled on his ear. "But if we do go through with this I promise you I will love you forever"

"Nope you are not going to get rid of me." he told her. He pulled her closer and kissed her lips gently. Getting married was a big step for both of them. He knew the risks of getting married this early, but he felt that Dani and him were ment for each other and that some how their fathers had something to do with it. That ment that it would last. His mother and father had been married for some time, and if he had not died, they would have been married for many more years.

"Come on lets go check out the church before the rehersal. Then we can go to the near by park to sit and relax till it is time." He had not been in church for a very long time. The surmons seemed the same all the time and it was not how he thought God wanted man to pray to him. Moving her out to his car he helped her in and then got into the driver's seat. He wondered what other surprises were in store for the two of them as he drove off.

The Church that his mother had selected was the largest in th city. Inside it could hold at least four to five hundred people. It was a miniture cathedral like church. He looked at Dani as they entered it wondering just how many people did his mother invite. As they looked around the Priest came forward smiling. "Welcome. I see that you are a bit early. Is there something that you wish to see or talk about?"

Alex smiled and said, "No we just wanted to come and see the church before rehersal."

The priest nodded, "If there is anything you want just let me know." he bowed slightly and went back to the front of the church. Alex turned and looked at Dani. "I have a feeling my mother has invited the entire city to the wedding." he chuckled.

Finally feeling at ease that Alex was really going to go through with the wedding Dani grinned. "Well I just had to be sure, its a big step, but we already live together, have been in a war together, and I do belive I threntend to not only duct tape you to a bed but shoot you as well" She paused "Or was that my brother I threntened to shoot?" She giggled "Yes you are agreeing to marry a bit of a freak" She kissed him back softly putter her arms around his neck. She knew their fathers had something to do with this. Why else would the threater had been closed when it never was in the mornings, why she had actualy found a seat if the Cafeteria when it was normally full. How he just happened to be there at the same time, how he had shown up within weeks of them losing their home yes she frimly belived that her father and his father were up in heven feeling proud about themselves and their children.

She tensed slightly when he mentioned the church, she had not been in a church since her fathers funural. The whole way driving to the church Dani was struggling to keep her breathing undercontrole. She just kept reminding herself that this time she was going to the church for a good thing, to be married, to start a new life not to saygood bye.

Once inside she relaxed slightly, it wasnt the same one .But it was huge she didnt think she knew enough people to fill it. She giggled at Alex's comment "Yes this town, the next one over, heck it looks like she plans to invite the entire state" She smiled at the Priest then watched him go back to the front and turned to Alex. "What does your mom have planned" She wondering knowing that he didnt know either.

Alex could only guess that she had a very big wedding planned and a military one at that. He looked around once more and then took her outside. There they met up with a few of their old friends from Highschool. The girls all gave Dani a big hug and the guys were giving Alex slaps on the back. Several of the girls were talking about the wedding. They were apart of the wedding, being maids of honor along with Debbie.

The opposite of the girls was not known. The guys had no idea nor did the women. They would not know until the rehersal. That was not that far off and he was dying to know who was going to be the guys of the wedding party. The park was just across the street and they all went over there to wait. The girls were all excited about the bridal shower and the wedding, the guys well they were all going to be there for the bachlor party. They all gave Dani mischevious looks when the party was brought up.

The time flew by and cars began arriving. Alex took Dani by the hand and lead her back over to the church. As they got there, Alex's squad was getting out of the cars. Wives and children were there as well, along with the Battalion commander and his wife, and the Company commander and his wife. Randy, Jack, Kevin, Jim and John shugged their shoulders. Randy came forward and said, "Wife said that we were coming here. That the guys and I were part of the wedding party. Hell this should be one hell of a wedding Sarge." he chuckled. Out of other cars came the Battalion Sergent Major, the Platoon Leader and four other men from the battalion.

Randy looked over at them, "Full military wedding man. Arch of Sabers and all." Randy's wife came to Dani and introduced herself. "Seems my husband has no manners." she made it a point to make sure he heard it. The priest came out and ushered them all in to the church. The last to arrive was Dani's father's squad and Alex's mother.

"This way", he told the wedding party. He poitioned every one and then took Dani and her father's squad back to the back of the church then he went forward to the front of the church.

Although she still wasnt sure about having the big wedding, infront of everyone Dani smiled. She knew that his mom had wanted to do this all for them and she was grateful for it, even she couldnt have planned all of this.. It was going to be a great event something that the town wouldnt soon forget. She looked up at Alex again, she was head over heels in love with the man. She had to laugh to herself. She, a military brat falling in love with a Soldier, if you had told her that she would have fallen for a Soldier before she met Alex she would have laughed at you, and boked oyu into a mental hospital, but here she was simple hours away from a rehersal for her wedding.

When they made it out and they were surronded by their friends Dani smiled and greeted each of them. Everyone seemed to be very happy. She laughed at the guys then winked at Alex "Alright Alex enjoy your last night of freedom before you are attachted to the old ball and chain." She giggled again. She was fine with what ever Alex and the boys need at the bacholorer party, she knew that Alex would do anything that would hurt her.

But then it was her turn to get a michevlous grin on her face. "So girls do you have any good looking strippers for me at our little party?" She winked at Alex to see his reaction.

All too soon it was time to go back. She walked with Alex and when she saw all the people she couldnt help but gasp. It seemed her dreams were coming true, a full military wedding. She had known that she wanted that ever since Alex propsed to her.

When Randy's wife came up and introduced herself Dani grinned "Its great to met you seems our men have that in common" She said eyeing Alex. When her fathers squad came she excused herself and gretted them all. "I do wish to" She would have gone on but they all shook their heads "Dont even think about saying sorry, you had come from a war zone, had a long flight, been through a award ceremony and then have a wedding dumped on you we understand" Dani smiled "Well thank you"

Then they were usehed into the church and Dani raised an eyebrow as the entire squad remained with her. "I couldnt ask for anything more then for you all to give me away" A single tear escaped her eye and she brushed it away with a nervous giggle.

"He is watching over you and he is very proud of you" They spoke softly. Dani nodded. "I know"
