Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Walking backwards, she passed through the door unharmed. No bumps or anything... Varok didn't say anything back to her... she was free to keep on going. Clause talked to her. "I got one hand free... the other one... is... out..." he thought to her... both of his hands were healed... he was getting low on energy... he started working on the one around his neck... the collar itself was strong... but the chains... he started working on those... "Keep going... you have one more riddle... then the door that we should meet at..." he said as he continued to give her instructions...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
She jogged through the halls this time, having no idea how long its been since she started the test. She went every which way that Clause instructed, making sure she kept her images flowing evenly through her mind. Riley was happy to notice that Varok didn't say anything back. This demon actually knew how to be quiet. Not to say that every other demon in the world had the habit of enjoying his own voice... or every other creature that seemed to be on her bad side for that matter. She slowed back down to a walk, feeling the same magic as before when she came close enough to the riddle.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Clause continued to tug at the chains... he used up an excess of his own energy... trying to get it... just to break the chain... something that was normally so easy for him... now seemed like a horrible chore... he seen the riddle... there was a dark room ahead of her... and a torch. However, there was also a tablet:
"Into the demon's chasm
if you do not take careful steps
The path you look for is not in front of you
To heaven's guidance you must seek..."
The room suddenly lit up in front of her... it looked like a large, but empty room... there were many tiles in the floor... Clause warned her. "Careful here... step on the wrong tile... and I have a feeling it will drop out from under you..." he said. "There has to be an answer..." he said. The chains holding the collar on his neck broke... he would worry about the collar itself later... he looked out of the cage... seeing a key just out of reach... he could grab it, but it would cost a lot of energy... so that was Vorok's game... weaken him...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
She had a bad feeling this would be one of the tricks. After entering the room, she switched her vision to infrared to see if some of the tiles looked different, even in the light. She then thought to Clause, "Am I looking for an invisible door on the ceiling or something? Daaamn this isn't cool." she said, being careful where she stepped, looking up from time to time as she walked around the room. She really had no idea for this one, but she kept thinking of different ways to interpret the riddle, trying to think of the most illogical one. Or, the most logical one as it might seem to be.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Clause was practically seeing through her eyes. "Wait... look back up at the ceiling... smart idea switching your vision... see how some of the stones glow?" he said. "Those are marking the safe path... just make sure you are under those tiles... you should be good to go..." he said. He made the key out of his reach levitate with his mind, bringing it close he snagged it. "There we go..." he said to himself... he unlocked his cage. "I'm out... I'll be waiting at the door..." he said. He didn't mention how much energy he had to use... he was running dangerously low... but he wouldn't worry about that now... they were so close...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
She looked back up at the ceiling immediately, centering herself under the safe path, then watched the glowing tiles as she walked, making sure she was underneath them at all times. She made her way slowly but surely to the other side of the room, seeing where the glowing tiles ended. She could only assume that part of the wall was just an illusion, but then, fool ya once, can't do it again. Fool ya twice... well, then yer just an idiot. Riley never thought of herself as one, so she waited, "What's the way out? The glowing tiles end on the corner. Is that part of the wall just an illusion?" She moved her hand toward the wall, just seeing what would happen...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
As her hands went to the wall, they shot through it, as if it didn't exist. "All the riddle rooms here... they must just be part of an illusion... but they are still dangerous..." he said. Clause ran through the passages... to a door... he just had to wait... however... on her tail was the monster... it was loose... and hot on her trail... "I'm at the door... but someone must be on both sides for it to open... then we just have one more riddle and you are out of here..." he said.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
After passing through the wall, she ran through the halls, being able to smell the stench of all the blood smothered on that thing's body. She kept running, running until she came to the door that should open when she got there, with Clause waiting on the other side. She could only hope that they figured out the last riddle before that creature caught up. The last thing on her mind, was experiencing whatever the hell that creature did to her last time. It would probably do something much worse, now that it's been stuck in that cage for so long.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
The door swung open and he seen Riley. He was looking terrible, low on energy, his wrists were still bruised since he couldn't spend too much energy, a collar with a small length of chain was around his neck. But there he was, still smiling. "Good... you made it... I was almost worried..." he said. "Come on, this way..." he said running through the hall, running left, right, making sure she was always behind him. The last segment was full of twists and turns, without him, she would have been stuck forever.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"Wow... you look horrible..." she said out loud, not meaning to be offensive or anything, just... making an observation... She had no doubt in her mind that she would have been stuck here if it wasn't for him. She'd end up wandering the halls as a beast like the one that was after her now... or dead... She had forgotten that there was still something she had to get through. "So where's this door to freedom?" she wondered, following his every step, turning whenever he turned. The excitement of being free again rolled through her, raising enough energy through her to supply both of them for the rest of the day.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"Just ahead..." he said... he felt it... the last riddle... it was closer than before... however... the sight of it was shocking enough... "Oh... oh god..." he said... he was speechless... before then was six nooses... all empty, with the exception... there was someone standing next to all of them... someone that Riley would find all too familiar... her brother... only it wasn't... it had a blank look in it's eyes... Vorok's voice could be heard.
"As if gambling with your own life wasn't enough, I've decided to throw your brother into the mix... I've sensed your closest relative... and found he would be a good fit... keep in mind... if you screw this up... this mere illusion won't be the only one short on breath..." he said cruelly... Each noose has a name under it... all except the innocent one will be hung... you must tell your brother which noose is the innocent one..." he said. "Here is your riddle...
"Dead men, dead men
swinging in a tree
How many dead men
do you see?
Tongue turned blue and
face gone grey
Watch them as they
twist and sway
The first one killed
the butcher man
Then cooked him in
the frying pan
Served him to his hungry guests
And gave them seconds on request
The next one with his smile
and sweets
Stole poor children off the streets
To men who dressed unsavory
He sold them into slavery
Breaking into home at night
The thief he had a nasty fright
Filled his foolish head with ale
Woke in the morn
in the county jail
The artist with his daunting skill
Tried his hand at painting bills
But caught in rain he was undone
When the ink he's use did
start to run
With promises of great return
Taking gold he did not earn
Bundled it up out of sight
Quietly slipped off into night
Three houses into ashes burned
The sheriff with no place to turn
Did spy a stranger to his town
Locked him up and beat him down
Dead men, dead men
swinging in a tree
How many dead men
do you see?
Six feet long and
six men wide
Round their necks
the noose be tied "
The nooses were labeled: The butcher, The kidnapper, The drunk, The artist, The bank robber, The arsonist.
"Remember... choose the wrong one... you fail the tests, you die here... and your brother starts to feel a bit short of breath..." Vorok said. "And thus will be the end of you filthy half-breeds..."
Clause was pissed. "You sunk to a new low... using magic like that..." he said. "How much power did that cost you... huh? For what... a dirty trick like this..." he said.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"Getting pissed off isn't going to solve this any quicker. No pressure, but your beast is getting closer." she snapped at Clause, pacing back and forth as she tried to figure out the riddle. "The butcher would be innocent, right? He got murdered. The rhyme didn't say he did anything truly wrong." she thought-spoke to Clause as she continued pacing, running her hands through her hair. What did the butcher butch though? I'd only assume he worked with meat... what the question is... what kind of meat? Maybe he was a cannibal, who knows? But sticking with the rhyme, it would seem that he's the innocent one... right?

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Clause didn't say anything back to her for a moment... he was working through it in his mind. 'No... that's... that's not it... I think I have it... think about the second to last verse..." he said. "It... never said anything about the arsonist doing anything wrong... just that the sheriff didn't know what to do, so he blamed a stranger... I'm... I'm positive that is what it is..." he said back to her... hoping, praying it was right... it made sense to him... but... he would never forgive himself if he caused her and her brothers death...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"Blaming and torturing someone for something they didn't do, though... Without having gathered legit reason to do so first... That's just unfair and rude." Riley said, "Arsonists illegally set fire to properties. How can any arsonist be innocent?" she asked, still believing that the butcher was innocent. "It would only make sense if the butcher was innocent, right? We aren't told why he's killed, but the killer is in the wrong all the same."

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"I don't know... I think the names are different, like for what they were blamed for doing... the artist showing his best work when he made the fake bills... perhaps butcher is referring to the murder itself... for cutting up and serving people. But... I'm not sure... the arsonist was called the arsonist because he was blamed for it..." he said... that was his reasoning at least. "We have to think about this... you and your brother's lives are on the line..." he said.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"No shit. If we don't come to a conclusion shortly, though, I'm as good as dead down here anyway." she said out loud, actually having meant to say it in her thoughts. If that didn't give it away, she wasn't sure what would. She could only hope that Varok wouldn't do anything about it... "If the arsonist is only called that because he was blamed for it, then yes, I can agree with you on that..." she finally stopped pacing and walked up to 'Rhoan', but said nothing yet. She only looked sadly into his eyes... then the stench of blood came back, as if the creature was just around the corner...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
"Once that thing sees you... it's over..." he said. "It will charge..." he looked to her. "I'll... I'll hold him off for a bit... run to the doors once you figure out the right answer... I'll know once you make it out..." he said out loud... He turned. He thought back to her, obviously Varok wasn't to worried about them talking. 'You can do it... take your time... I'll be alright...' he thought to her. He took off down the halls, hoping to distract it long enough... he had to confront it... what people became because of him... something that he had avoided as much as he could...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
She took a deep breath, and said slowly to Rhoan, "I see five dead men. The arsonist is innocent." she couldn't help but hold her breath while she waited for the answer. This was the moment of truth. She felt like it was the wrong answer, but it made the most sense. She cursed at Varok for bringing her brother into this. She was surely twenty times more outraged than Clause would ever be about it. Rhoan was her only real family left. If she lost him, she'd might as well just die. However, if she was wrong, then both of them would die anyway. She looked at the noose with the plate that read The Arsonist as she waited for the response. She could feel the creature getting closer and closer...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Clause in his weakened form wasn't much of a threat to it... He was at less than 5% of what he was normally functioning on... that of a normal human... if that... He was practically being tossed around like a rag doll... though he just needed to hold it off...
'Rhoan' moved to the arsonist's noose and placed it around his neck... immediately, the floor under all, except for the arsonist's dropped... her brother stood for a second before disappearing... Varok was silent... but Clause could feel it... the door opening... their way out... "Run!" he yelled from down the hall... the creature seemed tired of hurting him... he couldn't die anyways... it started running full speed after Riley. Clause was barely able to stand... but he still ran after it, trying to catch it... stop it from reaching her.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Happiness remembered its place once more, and Riley darted out the door, running as quickly as she could. Whichever way her eyes noticed, that's the way she ran. She could feel the lack of energy that Clause had whenever she reached to his mind to think to him, so she assumed he needed to focus on keeping what energy he had, and just kept running, seeing where she ended up. She didn't even look back as she kept running. Looking behind her would slow her down, even just a little bit, but that little bit could mean her failure and running the wrong way. So, she pushed herself forward, and forward still until she knew for sure that she was free.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Clause seen the thing get closer to her. "No you don't!" he yelled as it raised it's arms to strike her. He jumped at it, grappling it, holding it back as much as he could... it gave her enough time to get away. Clause however didn't follow her... the door closed a few seconds after she ran through.
She would run... run through a large white open space... it turned into a forest... the trees... it was the forest surrounding the castle... however... something interesting was happening... the castle seemed to move and shift... crumbling... collapsing in on itself... she was far enough away to be safe...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
As soon as she could hear the castle collapsing, she stopped running and turned around, also noticing that Clause had not followed her outside. She watched the castle crumble to nothing more but a pile of rubbish, and wondered who was going to bring her back to the other world now. Unless Varok was already outside, and unless Clause was able to survive tonnes upon tonnes of stones falling on him, she was going to be stuck here. Of course though, Riley won all of the tests... she had earned her freedom and her one wish... So somebody had to bring her back. Suddenly all the dust from the castle collapsing started coming her way. She ran as fast as she could through the forest, trying to find a tree that was small enough for her to hang on to. Getting thrown into oblivion really wasn't on her priority list. So, she sat up against one of the trees, and kept her grip on its trunk until the dust disappeared.

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
Once the dust cleared, one could see something in the sky... black wings... Clause had made it out.
As the stones started to crumble, it made an opening that he could take... he managed to shake off the monster... he made it out... but his wings were looking funny... he started flying towards her... thought flying was an odd way to describe how he was moving... it was more like a combination of gliding and falling... He reached her, falling to the ground the second he touched down. He looked up at her. "Did I ever mention... how much trouble... you are..." he said...

Re: The Forsaken (May be R)
She stood up, shaking all the dust from her clothing and her hair. "No, I don't think you ever did." she mumbled, imagining just how mad Varok must be. This was definately one of many places that she was going to avoid in the future. She watched as Clause came down, crumbling to the ground himself. "What happened to your wings?" Riley asked him, offering a hand to help him up.

Clause stood up with her help. "I've just ran low on energy... I've... never been this low..." he said. "But... don't worry... I'll be dead soon anyways... I can take you back... but... what is your wish?" he asked. "I... can grant it now..." he said. "And in doing so... Varok will be no more... you see... the link is severed the moment you make a wish... and a funny thing... the link grants that sorcerer the lifespan of a demon... however once it's severed... it is all going to shoot back at him... all the years that he had not aged..." he said. "He might have a spell ready though, so it might not kill him... but... still..." he said. "Also... once the link is severed... I'll only have 24 hours... then well... I'll be out of your hair..." he laughed. "Now... what is your wish?" he asked.
