"Why hasn't he been around?" she asked immediately, "Has he ever disappeared while you have guests before?" Riley leaned forward, looking at him curiously. There had to be something going on. It couldn't be that simple. "Stopping bad things is what I do best." she said sarcastically, even though it was actually true. She walked over to the window, looking outside. It was too early to see the moon yet, but it was very dark out. It seemed almost eerie with the gentle breeze, only making the tops of the tallest trees and the tips of the longest branches sway. She thought a moment, then looked at Clause. After a short pause of just looking at him, she asked, "Your master wouldn't change the test without telling you... would he?"

"I... I don't know..." he said. "I don't think he has disappeared... he just hasn't been watching me... or torturing me... and that's what scares me... he no doubt knows what I have been up to... I should have been tortured for a good long time... not that I want that to happen... it just worries me that he has something else up his sleeve..." he said. "It's odd..." he said. "But... I guess we should be thankful... well... I should be thankful that I haven't had to feel that torture for a while... though... we should still be prepared for the worst... if he does have control for the last test..." he got quiet...

Riley immediately glared at him most intently. "Then what?" her heart began to race, her lungs moved faster, and she couldn't seem to remember how to move, she was suddenly more frightened than the near death experience the previous day. Usually, nothing could frighten her more than heights. "If he's in control, I'd might as well just shoot myself right now, kinda thing?" she asked him angrily. "Well, if that be the case, I'm going to go enjoy life until I'm ready to do the test." she said, turning to the window to open it.

"No... No... the tests must be able to be won..." he said. "But... it will be difficult... and since he knows... he is going to expect me to be helping you... meaning... well... I might be completely cut off from you." he said. "He knows that as soon as you finish these trials... that he will lose the only one who brings him power... as a result he will be vulnerable..." he said. "He will do anything he can to stop you..." he said. Clause didn't stop her... "I would though... go enjoy whatever you can... if you ever want to see those you love again... keep in mind you must win..." he said.

Joy. The big baddy wasn't going to give up so easily. "Yeah... I'll be back..." she said quietly. She looked at Clause for a moment, then gave one of those smiles that said a sincere thank you. For what, exactly... even she couldn't tell... there were too many things on her mind now. She slipped out the window, then shifted shape, and taking her time with exploring this time, noticing more things than the first time she explored. She tried to enjoy it, but what really ruined it, was the fact that she might never see her brother again. Perhaps, to go find more victims, but otherwise not.

She returned to the dining room through the window, then shifted shape once more when she got back inside. She seemed to have endless energy, and hopeful thoughts, but she just hoped that she wouldn't need anything more than that to finish the test. No pressure, but she was the first one to make it this far, and will be the first to succeed. Her life depended on winning, and her brother did too. It's winnable. she kept thinking as she waited, leaning against the wall, as she hadn't noticed anyone in the room yet.

Clause watched as she left... he moved... going down the hall, not too far from the dinning room was a small study. He yelled out. "Master... Master... I wish to speak with you..." he called out... no response. "Varok! Show yourself dammit! I know what you are up to!" he yelled. Darkness showed up... but it took a while for his master to finally speak. "Yes, Clektor..." he said. "That isn't my name anymore... Master... Clause... simply Clause..." His master laughed. "I know... but Death Kiss was such a suitable name for one with with your abilities..." he said, knowing what Clektor meant exactly in the tongue of the demons.

Clause shrugged it off... he started having a conversation with his Master... acting bolder than he had in years... more confident. "Master... no... I'm not calling you by that name anymore... Varok... you plan to alter my test... correct?" he asked. The sorcerer was silent. "Varok... answer me... I know the rules of these tests... you must speak the truth when asked such questions about the tests..." he said. The shadows materialized... moving, shifting... turning into a tall figure... before giving way for a man... Varok himself stood in front of Clause. "Yes... I did..." he said. Varok was a handsome looking, older man. His hair, thick, yet showing some gray. His eyes were deep and dark, his frame was big and intimidating. He wore elegant robes, that of royalty, and he pulled it off. Clause was caught off guard...

Riley could hear voices down the hall, once she had settled against the wall. She looked around to listen to the direction to where they were talking, and silently moved through the halls, making sure she didn't get too close to them. One of the voices, she could tell it was Clause. However, she couldn't tell who the other one was. She assumed it was his master, if the way he spoke didn't give it away. Well, there was that, but Clause had never mentioned others that were hanging in the castle other than the beasts and his master. Once she reached hearing range, she backed up a bit more to make sure she wasn't seen, then listened in. All she had heard was something about the name Varok, and the confirmation that he had indeed altered the test. She looked away from the doorway that lead into the study, her heart racing.

It took Clause a moment to gather his wits again... it had been a long time since he had seen his Master face to face, though, now that he did... he noticed something. Clause laughed lightly. "You're afraid Varok... no use hiding it..." he said. "Your eyes... you've been up thinking... trying to find a way to beat her..." he said said with a laugh. Varok but his had forward, Clause let out a noise of pain. "Silence! You know nothing... you filthy demon..." he said using his power to throw Clause across the room. He landed against a wall. It actually hurt when his Master used his powers. He grunted lightly. "Why Clause... Why have you betrayed me... you have been given such power... I have achieved so much from you... and now... this..." Varok said.

Clause stood up. "Because... all these lost souls... the monsters that roam the halls... the lives I have ruined... all in your name... I'm sick of it... I'm sick of causing nothing but suffering..." he said. Varok laughed. "The rules say you will die... your link will be severed from me... without me... you will die within the hour..." he said with a laugh. Clause raised his voice. "Don't tell me about the Demon's rules... who do you think was one of the creatures who wrote them..." he said darkly. "You got lucky... enslaving a demon of such power... but you forgot... you can never control a soul... I'm going to help Riley... you won't be able to stop both of us..." he said.

Varok laughed. "Alright then... if freedom is what you truly crave... how about this... I came upon a spell... one that severs the demon and the one whom he is linked with... however, the demon will live... I just need a bit more power... this... Riley girl will be able to give it once she fails... I can set you free... for good... you just need to sabotage her trial... make her fail... and freedom... what your soul desires so much, will be all yours..." Varok said slyly, approaching Clause. "That... or would you rather watch another one fail... just to have to find another to subject to this torture... or... if the unlikely happens and she does win... die... the choice is yours Clause..." Varok smiled, the devil himself would be won over by his silky words... Clause however looked him in the eye and spit in his face. "There is your answer... I'll see you when the test is over... and Riley wins..." he growled... Varok said nothing... but shifted into shadows...

Varok seemed quite certain that she wasn't going to win the test. She jumped when she heard Clause being thrown into the wall. She could almost feel his pain. Riley covered her mouth with both of her hands to make sure she wouldn't say anything, and looked at the door again to see a strange shadow moving organically out of the room. She really wasn't ready to spend eternity in this realm, but like all other things that happened in here, she had no choice in the matter. She sat down on the floor, putting her hands flat on the floor so that she could scratch at it with her nails. Having heard all that... it almost made her think about waiting to do the test until she was sick of this place. Either way, it wouldn't change her chances of winning or losing. She stared off into space, trying to think of what the test could even be, while thinking of the previous tests as well.

Clause was angry... he first knocked over a table... it didn't change anything... but it made him feel a bit better... he was sick of feeling helpless... but... he knew Varok was scared of her... scared of what she could do... that gave him some hope... but her... would she be able to do this... complete this... terrible test... whatever it was... Clause went to the door and opened it... he seen Riley. "Wolfie... what... what are you doing out here..." he said surprised... all the anger seemed to leave his face...

"You turned down the altered spell..." she noted, keeping her voice low. "Why would you rather die than have a free life?" she asked him. Not that she had a problem with it... she was just nosy about why people make certain decisions. "Don't tell me you didn't know I was outside. You can see everything I do, you always know anywhere I am. I remember things, you know." she said, her voice slowly turned from shock to anger.

Clause looked away. "Not this time... not anymore... I'm being blocked... I think I made him angry..." he said with a small laugh. "The second we started talking... he put a dampener on me... my powers are not... well... all that useful right now..." he said. "I only have a general idea of where you are now... basically outside or inside... I knew you were inside... but... still... not right there..." he said. "He can control how my powers are used... the only reason he gave me that tracking ability in the first place was to keep track of the victims... now that he knows that I'm trying to help... he obviously isn't going to let me keep that little perk..." he said.

"I turned it down because it was the right thing to do..." he said. "I'm not going to kill you... I'm going to help you all I can..." he said. "I told you I'm going to help you and I'm keeping my word... besides, I don't have anything to live for... I've caused enough trouble..."

"Oh... well, that's always useful..." she said sarcastically, referring to what he said about his master being able to dampen his power so much. "Well, I'm not complaining. I respect that you stay to your word." she said, standing up and shaking her arms to relax her nerves a bit. She straightened out her clothing, and looked at him. "So, how about you lead me to that test now? It's gonna drive me crazy wondering what the hell the test is." she told him, despite that she still didn't want to do the test just yet.

Clause laughed lightly, trying to keep his own spirit up as well as hers. "Well... I would lead you... but... I don't know where it is... I'm not the one who... whoa..." he said... it felt odd... like he was just hit on the back of the head... though it was only them around... he knew what was happening... her test was starting... it would effect her too... Riley would be going through the same thing... they would wake up where the test was going to take place. Clause felt it again, suddenly baring down on him. He wasn't able to remain conscious... his body seemed to fade away...

"If you don't know where it is, then how the-" Riley jumped again when she felt what he had felt, and she rubbed the back of her head. She spun around quickly, feeling like an idiot when nobody was behind her. She was hoping it was just an imagination trick. Then she felt the rush of sleep run at her, but she fought with her eyes, trying to stay awake. She stumbled to the floor though, and shortly fell unconscious.

Clause awoke some time later... he didn't know... but... they would be waking at the same time... he felt a chain around his neck... a collar... his wrists shackled to the wall, to top it off he was behind a cage... he was angry... and somewhat afraid... he knew where they were... the dungeons below the castle... a terrible place... he didn't know what would happen... what was going on... he felt weak... much weaker than he had before... he struggled against the chains until he heard a voice...

When Riley woke up... her sights wouldn't be any better... a cage... but luckily she wasn't the one behind bars... the monster... the creature she had trapped earlier... it was looking to her... full of rage... Varok would speak to her. "Wake up my dear... you don't have much time... the door in front of you... it will lead deeper into this labyrinth of a dungeon... to get to the end, you will need to solve riddles and take the right paths to get to the exit... only one man knows this place like the back of his hand... and he can help you... if he can ever get free..." the voice said. "There will be a point where it seems you cannot go any further... a locked door... if Clause makes it to you in time... he can help you... however if he doesn't... well... lets just say... that cage will not last forever..." he said. "In one hour... the bars will disappear... then you will have a monster on the loose, looking for you..." Varok said with a little laugh. "However, once you and Clause join up... don't think just because he knows the path, that you will be able to just walk out of here... I have a one more nasty surprise waiting... now hurry along... your hour starts now..." he said.

Riley liked it a lot better when she wasn't woken by enraged monsters... she jumped awake, noticing after a moment that he was behind bars... surprisingly in the same cage that she had put it in... it would be two days ago by this time... no wonder it was so angry... she listened to her instructions carefully, making sure that she'd remember every word.

She quickly stood up and walked over to the door that lead into the labyrinth. Not that she wanted to, but because that's how the game is played. She took one more look at that creature that was free in just under an hour, then rushed out the door. First thing she thought of was speaking through her mind to Clause. They'd done it once before, but that was being in the same room. She walked around the halls, going only where her gut told her to go while she telepathically looked for Clause's mind. Reaching out with her mind, she thought-spoke to him, Clause... if you can hear me... please, please respond...

Clause struggled against his chains... trying to break them... the one around his neck was extremely difficult... his wrists were starting to hurt from thrashing... however, he then heard something. He talked back with her in his mind. "Riley? It's you? Thank god... Varok doesn't know about this little trick..." he said back to her. "Listen... I might be able to guide you through... just think about where you are at... It will help me get you to where you need to be..." he said. "I have some troubles on this end too... but I'll get you out of here... I promise..." he said.

She felt relieved as soon as he responded, but she didn't allow her reaction to show. Anything could happen if Varok realised what was going on. Riley then made an image in her mind of where she was, trying to send it like a video as she kept walking. I don't feel very good about this place, Clause... it seems like every way I go is a dead end... Luckily also, that she had a photographic memory, so she was able to remember which way she's already gone... at least, until the scenery started to repeat when she could have sworn that she didn't turn around.

"I know... but believe me after years of living here... I know this place well..." he said. "I had to live down here for the first 1000 years of my life... so trust me..." he watched where she was going... she was doing alright so far... he continued to instruct her, telling her what ways to turn as fast as he could... even when the creature got free. It would take time for it to reach her... "Once you get the first riddle... I'll start working on getting free... it... it isn't too bad... I should manage..." he said trying to keep her spirits high.

You should already be working on getting free. If you look like you're comfortable, or like you've given up, he'll no doubt know something's going on, assuming he is actually aware of telepathy itself... If Varok notices the telepathic connection we've got going, we're both screwed. Well, one of us will be, anyway... she stopped thinking as she sensed the riddle nearby now. This dungeon felt like it could do anything it wanted to... it was just a matter of time before it actually did do something... She glanced around the next corner, seeing the riddle...

In front of her was a door with a stone tablet. The stone reads:

"The door will rattle, but it sure is stuck tight...
the entrance is hidden, but just out of sight.
You might be thinking, 'Where could it be?'
Use the back of your head, and then just believe..."

Clause spoke with her. "You are right..." he said. He starting thinking he could get his hand squeezed through the shackle on his right hand... but it would hurt... a lot he could do it though... he started on that, feeling the metal cut at his skin as he started to squeeze his hand through...

"The back of my head..." she whispered, repeating it in her mind to Clause as well. "Back of my mind... my memories...don't drop a tear... it's just not here..." she figured it would be just like the first test. So, Riley took a deep breath, and ignored the door like she ignored her family. Then, she walked forward carefully, looking forward as if the door wasn't even there...

However, she would find the door was very solid... walking right into it wouldn't change that. Varok's mocking voice could be heard... "Sorry, but did you honestly think I would use the same trick that Clause used?" he laughed. Clause slipped his and out... he was bleeding... but he used enough energy to get it patched back up. He was thinking about the riddle as well. "Riley... try... try walking backwards into the door... I think that's it..." he said to her in his mind. He started working on getting his other hand free.

Like that wasn't a confidence booster... She took in a deep breath once more, turned around, and walked backward so that the back of her head would have hit the door first... that being, if walking backwards didn't make a difference. "Just shut up, will you?!" she yelled not at Clause, but at the voice, feeling very intimidated by it. She had never taken intimidation very lightly. The poor soul that dared do that to her, usually wound up dead underneath some abandoned warehouse. Her goal... once she got out of here, she'd kick that demon shitless. It sounded like fun, so she used that to help her confidence in this.
