"Yeah? And how's that working out for you?" Shame was quite the thing to live with, it was hard to ignore. It ate away at you when you had a quiet moment to think about it. Draylen looked sorry enough that he had done it, and it wasn't Nathaniel's place to forgive him for doing something like that. Other people's decisions were their own business. He couldn't interfere with their choices or opinions, so best let them think for themselves and learn on their own.

"Not very well" Draylen admitted, shaking his head. It was hard to ignore, sometimes when he was alone at night, and feeling lonely, he thought of that involentarily. It was the worst. "But anyways, I deal with it, and it doesn't matter, I guess" he made a face, wishing they weren't having that conversation so soon in their relationship. He would have liked to wait before this was ever brought up, but Alex had to come along and ruin that, starting a fight in the process.

"Mistakes are carried on your shoulders, you learn from them and try not to do them again." How many couples automatically went in to what their past sex life had been before on the first date? Maybe the paranoid ones, or the ones who wanted to go for it right away. "I guess you could say that at least you've done something. I haven't gotten very far at all. Kissing at most." A twenty one year old who was untouched by male or female. Mostly because he was focused on his studies, but that was an excuse. He didn't know how to do any of that, and he was always the leader of the relationship it seemed. "At least you know what you're doing...sort of."

"Mhmm. But I can't spend the rest of my life doing nothing so I don't repeat it" Draylen laughed. He was turning nineteen in less than a week, so he had the rest of his life to do whatever with boyfriends, or possibly a husband eventually. "Really? I would've thought you had gone a bit farther, your age and all" he tilted his head to the side, feeling dirty once again. Having done more when he was 17 than a 21 year old man. "I really have no idea what I'm doing anyways" he laughed, shaking his head. He knew what he was doing with kissing, but what Alex had done, had completely caught him off guard, and he had no idea what was going on with that.

"Hmm, too busy being a nerd, as you Americans say." Or as the Americans in his college told him. He declined quite often of bringing someone with him to things he went to, whenever that was. They never saw him get close to anyone, always studying or helping someone with homework. They saw him turn down a girl once, but that was the best they'd seen at his love life. For them, he was asexual. He wasn't about to parade about the campus with his new boyfriend, in fact, he wasn't about to even imagine telling them about Draylen. His school life and his general life stayed separate as far as others were concerned. "Experimenting is good, just, kind of hard to do when you're a bit scared."

Draylen laughed, sure Nathaniel wasn't exactly a nerd. Just smart, and a least going somewhere with his life. "Yeah, us Americans can be pretty rude sometimes. Don't take it personally" even though most of the time, people did mean it personally. He himself ignored insults most of the time, unless they were particularily true, or harsh. "Mhmm. You scared?" he asked, grinning at Nathaniel, only half joking.

"Everyone is rude, it's just a thing when people don't know you well." Or sometimes his friends back where he had lived had been rude too, just to be funny, or to provoke him or something. "Scared? A bit. But if the both of us haven't much of a clue of what we're doing, then it can't be all bad." He smiled and faced Draylen, giving him a quick kiss on the lips. Just brief contact, those were definitely okay on the first date. "Your reward for being a good medic, by the way," he explained.

"Hmm. In this magical land called America, people are rude just for the hell of it. I try not to be" Draylen wrinkled his nose, wondering why people could be so horrible to each other. "Mm, yeah, that's true" he smiled, the smile growing at his 'reward'. "Maybe I should play medic more often then" he teased, grinning. He leaned towards Nathaniel, copying the action, kissing him lightly. "And that's YOUR reward, for sticking up to Alex for me" he said, smiling brightly.

"I like that reward," Nathaniel announced, not mentioning that he would have lost if the fight had gone on much longer. No more fighting with Alex, that was for sure. He wasn't even the one who wanted the fight, Alex picked it, he defended himself. Sure, he had wanted the opportunity to defend Draylen, but fighting, as he knew was not his forte. "Your house is so quiet compared to my house.If the dogs aren't barking then my brother is up to something. I've sound proofed my door from the outside as best as I can." Towels at the crack of the door to try to keep sound out, that was the best he knew.

"Yeah? I like it too" Draylen grinned, happy with Nath's little announcement. He could get used to rewards like that. "Yeah? Well I don't have any siblings, and cats don't generally make too much noise. No need for soundproofing here" he wondered what it would be like to have such a noisy house. He liked the quiet, but occasionally it creeped him out, so he played music quite often.

Nathaniel sat back a while, conversing with Draylen about things in general. It was nice here, he wouldn't mind sitting around here until Draylen kicked him out. Unfortunate for him that he did have to return home to get to his brother and dogs. He waited a while before saying his goodbye for the day. He promised Draylen he'd return the favor some how one day, just for the excuse of doing him something nice. Thankfully his driving was fine when he was going home.

If he was correct, and his calendar rarely lied to him, then today was Draylen's birthday. It had been relatively a week since his fight with Alex, and he was all healed up for the most part. Fading bruises, diminishing cuts, not even a scar left. He had gotten Draylen a present on his way home from work at some point when Draylen wasn't around. He wasn't sure how to wrap it, but decided it would be a more mysterious gift if he wrapped the oddly shaped pillow. He could give it to him when they had a nice moment alone.

Draylen was happy today, for purely the fact that it was his birthday. Sure, he had to work today, but he got to see Nathaniel, which made it all worthwhile. His mom had made him a huge breakfast, and now he was on his way to work, happy even as he clipped on his ID tag and started working. Even the little girl customers weren't bothering him today. His birthday, and major holidays, always made him happy no matter what.

Nathaniel saw Draylen at work, never mind the job, he had to greet Dray first before starting the day properly. "Happy birthday, Dray," he said, giving him a smile and a two fingered lazy wave. "I'll see you after work, all right?" He didn't need an answer, even if Draylen was doing something today for his birthday with other people, Nathaniel would catch him before he went to whatever. He had the present in his car, he could run and get it as long as Dray agreed to stay a bit. "Cheers," he said as he went to his work station, thinking of Draylen for most of the day.

Draylen looked up as he felt Nathaniel enter the room, smiling brightly at him. "Thanks. Okay, I'll see you later" he grinned, happy that Nath had remembered. He had had people forget his birthday quite often. AA few of his friends. But that was expected. He worked the rest of his shift cheerfully, not even being weary towards the ghost in the changerooms. Avoiding it, sure, but not as scared as he normally was. Soon enough, his shift was done, and he had the rest of his birthday free to do whatever he liked, until his parents were off work.

Nathaniel bid the last customer he had to help a goodbye. He didn't usually talk to them more than he had to, but he was in a good mood. He wanted to meet up with Draylen and do something nice for his birthday. That, and give him the present he had gotten for him. "Dray," he called, approaching him, finding him easy enough. He followed his instincts instead of looking around the entire store. His tuning was working fairly sharp today, maybe he was just trying harder to synchronize the way Draylen found him.

Draylen took off his ID and stuffed it in his pocket, pretty much letting the little girls know he wasn't working anymore, and they shouldn't bother him. "Hey Nath" Dray greeted when he heard his name called, looking up to see his boyfriend approaching. "How was work?" he asked, laughing slightly. Work normally was only tolerable, but today's had been great, for no reason at all. He couldn't think of a birthday of his that hadn't been great.

"Treating me fair, you?" Draylen looked like he was in a good mood anyways, almost no point in asking when he could see it on his face. "Well, I've got something for you. Dunno if you're doing anything today, but if you'll spare me a moment to go to my car, then I'm hoping I'm the first to get you something." He tucked his ID badge away as well, he grabbed his keys so he could go unlock his car. "So, can you wait a moment or do you have something you need to hurry to?"

"Pretty great, for once" Draylen smiled, glad it hadn't been like another day of dragging his way through work, fending off little girls and restocking shelves. Dray tilted his head to the side, wondering what it was that Nathaniel had for him. "You didn't have to get me anything" he said, shaking his head, but he was still smiling. "I've got all afternoon to do whatever I want, before my mom comes home" he shrugged, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"Blinding. I can bring it to some place you want to meet up in the mall if you want to spend time here, or you can come with me to get it if there's any place outside you want to go to." He had brought money with him today just in case Draylen was free and wanted to go out somewhere. Kind of like a date for them, though it'd be a little short since he did have a time limit. "Where ever you fancy, we can go there for a bit until you think of something else or have to go." He wasn't sure how to plan this out. He didn't usually do anything for anyone's birthday.

Draylen smiled brightly, just happy with how Nathaniel told him that they would go wherever he wanted. It made him feel like he had the world of options out there that he could pick from, even if it wasn't that much of a choice he had to make. "Hmm, well I was thinking about checking out the new ice cream place just down the street, if you wanna go there" he suggested, not wanting to feel like he was commanding Nath to go anywhere. Ice cream was just an idea, and there were a million different options out there if Nathaniel didn't want to, but he had a feeling that the older male would go with him anyways, whether he liked the idea or not.

"As you like. Then we may as well both go out to the car. We park in different areas. I'll meet you around your area and give you your present. Then we can check out the new place." So it was definitely a good thing that Draylen already knew what he wanted. Nathaniel wouldn't have been sure what to do if Draylen didn't know what he wanted. He only knew Starbucks wouldn't have been suggested again because so many things seemed to happen in there when the two of them were together. First the ghost episode and then the whole deal with Alex. Nathaniel wasn't so sure Draylen was up for another one on his birthday.

"Mm'kay. Then I'll see you in a bit?" Draylen tilted his head to the side, smiling slightly, bangs falling slightly into his face. He wondered what Nathaniel could have possibly gotten him, but he knew he would soon find out. He had his iPod with him to entertain him while he waited for Nath, which he was sure couldn't be a very long wait anyways, since he didn't park too far away, even if it was in a completely different area of the mall parking lot.

"Cheers, then," Nathaniel said before leaving and heading for where his car was parked. When he got there he moved the parcel to the front seat near him so it was easier to reach. He drove to where Draylen's car usually was, knowing he'd taken enough time that Draylen would be here and waiting. Or maybe the other man had malingered and looked around, he didn't know. He'd find him in the car anyways, whether or not he was here yet. Nathaniel was pretty sure he had beaten him here either way.

"Kay, bye!" waving, Draylen turned to head to his car, slipping his headphones into his ears and turning his iPod on, which was always on shuffle. He made it out to his car relatively quickly, since he always parked close. He leaned against his car, tilting his head back and closing his eyes, just relaxing in the parking lot, sure he looked a bit odd, but he didn't care. He was waiting for the telltale feeling that Nathaniel was approaching. It didn't take very long, and he looked up, smiling brightly as he looked in the direction the other man was coming from in his car.

Nathaniel left the gas running and opened his door, pulling the present for Draylen out with him. He smiled at Draylen who was relaxing out of his car and listened with headphones. He was almost curious what he listened to, but then he probably wouldn't know what it was anyway. He tapped his ear, signaling for the headphones to come out a moment. "Happy birthday, Dray," he said, handing over the hemispherical object. He made sure not to put pressure on it so it didn't look squishy.
