Re: A Sight to See
Already Draylen's dad seemed like an okay chap. A lot less stern than his father. His father wasn't one of those military men where everything had to be perfect and stiff around the house, but he was something like what the typical American business man was. Not much seemed to be already perfect enough for him, but he wasn't going to take the time to fix it. he expected the person with the fault to fix it to suit him. "You come from a good place," he said. "Or at least it appears so. Is it?" he asked, betting that the mother was just as nice.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen looked up at Nathaniel at the comment, followed by a question. "Yeah, it's pretty great. I love my parents" he grinned, happy that he was born into a family that didn't give a damn what his sexuality was. He had been taking a chance when he came out to them, but it was worth it. "How about your family? Are they like this?" he asked, curious. He led the British man into the living room, where there was probably the most to do entertainment wise.
Re: A Sight to See
"Not like what I see so far. Well, comparing my father to your father, I'd say opposites. Haven't met your mum yet, but my mum just goes along with what my dad says." She was kind enough, like mothers were, but she didn't do much else except for what the leading man in the house told her to do. She wasn't afraid to do things he hadn't suggested, but what he did say was followed like a mutt on a leash. "My brother is loud and a bit of an aggro, but I could call it a typical family." The rooms in Draylen's house felt more occupied than his did. His house just felt a bit unused sometimes. He cleaned the house when he had to, but never really looked at it. His room was the only place he really looked around at.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen frowned, not liking the way that sounded. He wasn't sure he would last very long in a family like that. He was sure that would be the kind of family that he personally would be a disappointment to. "Yeah? That kind of tanks, but as long as you love them, right?" he tilted his head to the side, unsure of how close his family was anyways. He let go of Nathaniel's hand and sat down on the couch, curling his legs under him. "Well what do you want to do anyways? Tv, xbox, movie?" he asked, putting three of his preferences out there. He didn't know what Nathaniel would prefer out of the three, but he was fine with any of them.
Re: A Sight to See
"Family is family. You can't choose them," Nathaniel said, "and for the most part, you love your family no matter what." And in most cases they loved you no matter what. Logic said this to him, but fear and instinct based off of fear was telling him to be afraid of getting touchy feely with his family. He kept to himself after starting high school and went from there. They gave as much attention to each other as they had to, but not usually much more than that. Maybe it was because he had put distance between them, but he didn't ultimately mind. Less distractions in life were good for him. "Whatever can keep your attention for as long as you want me over. I don't mind, as long as I'm spending time with you," he said. "I'll admit though I'm not much for video games." Hand eye coordination was the easy part, but actually amusing him was harder to get. He didn't usually enjoy playing parts for his brother. They were okay for a bit but got old quickly for him.
Re: A Sight to See
"Yeah. Friends come and go, family is forever" Draylen said, smiling slightly. He didn't like to think that way, but it was all too true. He just didn't like the idea of being left. It had happened too many times for his liking. "Alright. I'm thinking about watching a movie. Just something I read as a kid, and I found out had a movie, so I bought it but havn't read it yet. The Theif Lord" he grinned, shrugging. He got up and walked over to the television, grabbing the DVD from the stack of them, pulling it out of the case and bending down to put it in the played, hitting a few buttons before grabbing he remote and returning to the couch. "Want anything to eat or drink?" he offered.
Re: A Sight to See
"Very interesting," Nathaniel said, watching Draylen bend down to put the DVD in. He shook his head at the question. "We just had ice cream. I would have thought it would satisfy your thirst and or hunger, no?" He for one was pretty content on those levels. He put an arm around the American male, just wanting to use the chance of holding on to him and sitting down quietly. He was at peace here, more at peace than home. "Do you watch t.v. a lot?" he asked, wondering what the other watched if he did watch it often enough.
Re: A Sight to See
"Well, you never know, the drive home could have made you thirsty" Draylen shrugged, smiling as Nathaniel wrapped an arm around him, and he shifted to get comfortable against the other male. "Well, a fair bit. Since I don't go to school, I have a lot of time on my hands. I mostly read and watch TV when I'm not at work" he explained. He had a soft spot for some of the shows, and he could curl up and watch for hours if he had the time.
Re: A Sight to See
"Sounds nice," he said, though he wasn't sure he could sit there and do that in free time. He liked being busy, then breaks he got were well worth the work. Lazing about every day and then getting a break made it seem like no difference. Being able to settle down like that and let the mind wander did sound nice anyways. "Your life sounds like something I could fancy easy. Actually, I do." Jealous? No, not really. He couldn't be jealous of a feeling he didn't miss.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen looked up at Nathaniel, tilting his head to the side. "Yeah? Well you can share it with me if you want" he offered, smiling. He turned back to the TV, grabbing the remote and turning it on, hitting the necessary buttons to get to the movie screen. He would be more than happy to share his life with Nath, if he knew how to. The older of the two went to school, so there wasn't as much time for being lazy. He was a bit resentful of the community college, taking his Nathaniel away from him.
Re: A Sight to See
"Share with you, hm? Wouldn't that be brill." The American was giving him second thoughts on some of the people in America, but not actually America. He didn't even know what he was thinking of anymore. Draylen was someone he'd stay in America for, he knew that much. He had fun with him, and leaving to go back to his birthplace would mean long distance or dumping him. He didn't want either, so it made him think and hesitate for the day he could leave. He'd see what would happen later, he supposed. It distracted him from classes a bit sometimes, he didn't like that part of overthinking.
Re: A Sight to See
"Mhmm" Draylen hummed, leaning his head against Nathaniel's shoulder. He hit the play button when the movie menu came up and put the remote control down beside him, shifting again to get comfortable as the movie started. He hadn't read this book since he was a child, but he remembered the charachters, and the general gist of the plot. Watching a movie with one's girlfriend or boyfriend was always fun, he had figured out over the years. Just getting comfortable and curling up together to watch was a nice way to spend time together.
Re: A Sight to See
"So, is it the kind of movie that happens to be rubbish next to the book, or what?" Nathaniel asked, considering most movies wound up doing something like that. Poor Harry Potter, he thought sadly. He blamed America, personally, but other places did it too, so it wasn't entirely America at fault here. "Do you prefer seeing the movie first, or reading the book?" he questioned, since he was more of a book person himself. He only watched the movie to see how others saw the characters as.
Re: A Sight to See
"I have no idea. I hope not" Draylen frowned, wondering how bad it could be. Some things were absolutely killed by the movies, but some were done alright. "Hmm, I generally read the book first, unless I didn't know the book existed before" he explained, shrugging. "What about you?" he asked, glancing up at his boyfriend before back at the screen. Rows of beds were shown on the screen now, followed by a guard walking by, and then a boy sitting up in bed. He was pretty sure that was Prosper, but it had been a while since he had read the book, so he couldn't be sure.
Re: A Sight to See
At least he didn't need his glasses to see far away or when he was watching t.v. or something. He didn't want to sit there with his glasses. He tried keeping them off as much as he could, especially around other people. He personally thought he looked ridiculous with them on, and even trying to get the thinnest frames that he could find, they still looked odd. "Books," he responded to Draylen's question. "I watch the movies when I won't be too upset of them ruining the book."
Re: A Sight to See
"Mhmm, that's always a good idea. I hope they don't ruin this. It was a good book" Draylen hated to see movies ruin good books, but it happened all too often. The scene in the movie changed, showing who he had decided was Prosper at a window, Bo on the other side. So he was right on his charachters now, and he had a vague idea of what was going on. Mostly from having read the back of the movie when he picked it up.
Re: A Sight to See
"I'd have to see it some time," Nathaniel said, looking at the movie with interest. "Where does this take place?" he asked, knowing that most movies seemed to use British actors or something. They always had an accent, and it was very clearly not the American accent the people around here had. Harry Potter made sense because they were around that area to begin with, but a lot of other 'other culture' movies sounded a bit...accented in some form. He liked originality, not the same voice all the time.
Re: A Sight to See
"Umm, I think this is somewhere else, and they run away to Venice" Draylen replied, unsure of where the movie started, but he knew they wound up in Venice Italy. He was okay with the accents, now that he was dating a British man, but he was sure before, he would have found it more different. But used to talking to Nathaniel now, he didn't pay attention to it as much.
Re: A Sight to See
"Hmm, fair enough for now." Depending on where the two boys were from, then the accent might make some sense. Depending on what accent the people of Venice in the movie would have, well, the details would be able to be commented on there. He wasn't much of a talker when a movie was on, he liked letting the other people enjoy it. Constant babbling from others must be annoying for those trying to follow the plot line and character building.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen hummed lightly, sure he knew why Nathaniel was so interested in the accents. He seemed to be proud of where he was from, and not like America very much. But he was glad that the Brit had moved here, or else he knew he would still be alone, and not curled up with him on the couch like this. He was comfortable where he was, Nathaniel's arm around him warm, but not too warm. It was nice. He heard his dad walk by, but he didn't look up, not caring enough what his father saw. He knew he wouldn't care anyways.
Re: A Sight to See
Nathaniel was more or less focused on the movie, but also half conscious of stroking the skin his hand was on. His thumb just idly moved over the skin, stroking lightly. He was aware of Draylen's dad walking past, he was tempted to retract his arm, but the parent knew, so it was okay apparently. The movie was good at drawing him in so far, and it seemed everyone, even in Venice setting, had the British accent.
Re: A Sight to See
Draylen smiled at the thumb stroking his skin lightly. It was a comforting feeling, and he felt more at ease than he normally did. He always found that around Nathaniel, he felt less on edge about everything around him, and wasn't constantly looking over his shoulder. He still did, since it was unavoidable, but nowhere near as much, and he was sure that it was because Nath had the Sight as well. The movie was doing well so far with not being ruined, and he hoped it would stay that way.
Re: A Sight to See
Sighing contently at being comfortable and amused here with Draylen. There wasn't this comfortable an atmosphere at his house, at least not for him. His little brother looked fine there. He liked the movie so far, he hadn't heard of it before. Then again, he wasn't much for asking people about good movies, barely a person to ask people for recommendations on anything. "The original book is called the same thing, right?" he asked, thinking about looking into it some time to compare for himself.
Re: A Sight to See
"Yeah" Draylen replied, shifting his head on Nath's shoulder for a moment before getting comfortable again. He was liking how this was turning out, especially with the charachters as they were. He had always liked Scipio the best, then Prosper, and then Bo. As the movie went on, he remembered more things about the book, and what happened in it. "Eww, Barbarosa scares me" he whined, making a face at the creepy man on the screen.
Re: A Sight to See
"Really? He just looks like the average American man," Nathaniel replied, looking at the large man who was outsmarted by children. "He acts like it too." But he would agree, this man was something like a pedo, probably. The way he looked at the kids made him raise an eyebrow. "Well, the creepier they are, the better they're acting," he said, finding it interesting how movies, things that the person knew weren't real and already filmed, could make them on edge on a scene, or cry or freak out over something.
