Laire listened to what he was saying and relized that he was right, her lack of sleep was making Laire irrated. As he brought his gentle hand to her cheek she couldn’t help but cuddle into it. She was very weary. She also did not feel all that well. Like something was wrong with her. But she did push such thoughts out of her head. She did have too much to do, but just in case she made a mental note to show Dustin what herbes were meant for fevers.

Laire listened to what Dustin was saying nodding. It was a good idea, and scaring the English that they had may in the long run save some of the English men. As he continued Laire wobbled on her legs but caught herself. She did not want to worry Dustin, surely some sleep would get better. Yes she decided all she needed was to cuddle next t oDustin have his strong arms around her. As he pulled her close Laire nodded and leaned her head against hhis chest nodded “Dustin I must admit I do not even know if I have the strength for that” She was worried that the heat from her head would seep through his cloth to his chest but she did not care his arms around her comforted her.

She heard the approching steps and raised her head leaning her back against his chest while the lowlanders spoke. Laire was grateful that more Scotmen were going, surely this would mean that less Scotish would die and that pleased her. As they walked away pleased that they would be joinng Laire made her way slowly to her camp ready to tell the Laides what she wanted done.

She noticed the father walking near the edge of the camps and called out to him he came running and Laire talked to him quickly so Dustin couldn’t hear. She told him that him that she was taking the nights off to which the Priest seemed really grateful he had been worried about how much she was doing. She also whispered “I am not feeling well, please so Dustin what herbs are made for fevers, I think I worked myself to hard, with no rest.” She paused “So bandages need to be cleaned, in the river with the soap and hung to dry to catch the morning light. The pries nodded “Aye lass I be knowing what need be doing you go rest now. Rest till you are feeling better” Laire nodded and begain walking back to Dustin when she was with in arms reach she looked up and him her face drained of all colour. “Dustin catch me” Then everything went black for her.

The priest rushed to her side and spoke quietly and quickly “She be saying that she had a fever I know the herbs made, do you wish me to get them?” Laire was barely awake “No save…save…for them” her limp arm made a motioned towards the camp where the resting inured men slept. Laire closed her eyes again the fever ravishing any energy that she had left.

He could feel how tiired she was as he held her in his arms and she leaned against him. He felt her body tremble and almost fall and he knew it would not be long before she would colapse if she did not get some sleep. After the two nobles left with his agreeing to their coming along and the understanding that his orders were to be followed, he began to move Laire in the direction of his tent when she spotted Father Marcus and went to talk to him.

He followed a few steps behind her and as she turned back towards him he saw her begining to fall and ran forward to catch her and scoop her up into his arms. Father Marcus felt her forehead and looked into her eyes. "Aye she is exsausted. Get her to bed and I will bring some drink for her in a bit. Dustin carried her to his tent and laid her on the bed and covered her with the blankets. "Ye can not do everything my love. You need to learn to delegate jobs to the others." he smiled and caressed her face with a hand.

He stayed there with her, cooling her fevered brow with cool water and cloth. He prepared some simple food, a stew of sorts, with some bread and ate as she slept. He would arrange for a wagon to carry her as far as possible. Once they entered England though he hoped she would be able to ride, or he would carry her on his horse before him. This time not all would be riding. Only those that had horses would be riding, the rest would march, as they did from the highlands. He imagined that the lairds wives that were coming would ride with their husbands and any others with some of the men. He stayed there watching her to make sure she was alright. It was his turn to care for her now.

Father Marcus issued orders for what had to be done. He too had heard what was going on and made sure that all the supplies Laire and the few women and a couple of his men would need was packed in sturdy bags and tied to some horses. The Lairds of the clans and Duncan began gathering up food, blankets, cooking insturments, water and enough weapons to keep them in good order for a while. They would be hunting, fishing and of course taking from the english farms, towns and villages. It would take several hours to get everything ready.

Dustin gave orders for the wounded english to be loaded upon carts and sent off. Those able to walk, did so at the sides of the wagons. As they left the camp they saw the highlanders preparing and knew what was coming. They all prayed that their families would not be harmed and not be foolish enough to fight should the hilanders get there before they did. Dustin stood at the entrance of the tent watching the English depart. A few highlander's on horse back escorted them. These would meet up with the main force later. The hours passed and it was well into the afternoon when all was ready for them to begin their long march.

With the wounded being sent back to the highlands, Dustin sent letters to those clans further north. He asked the lairds there to honor the Kings wishes and summons and send men to aid him. He could only hope that they would.

Laire felt Dustin’s arms around her and it relaxed her for in his arms she felt secure. She knew that even in her state of pure helplessness she was safe with him and he would protect her from any harm. As she was laid down and the blankets were laid upon her Laire smiled sofly. She heard Dustin’s words, she knew that he was right. She couldn’t do everything alone, in the lowlands she was he only one that could so therefore she had to do everything herself, but here she reminded herself she had many people willing to help her so from now on she like everyone else would have a shift off. His touch felt so good that she suggled into his hand, even in her state she just wanted to be held.

The cool clothes on her head relived her fever and allwed Laire to drift into a dreamless sleep, not the normal feverish nighmares that came upon people in her state. Laire awoke while Dustin was eating. “Hello my Dustin” Her voice was weak and it was clear that she was still weary but she simply cuddled into him. “I am sorry if I scared you husband, I just wanted to help, I am used to having to do this all by myself. I will remember that I have many helpers though I promise I don’t want to scare you ever again” She leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips. “I do love you dearly Dustin” She paused “Once you are done can you hold me for a while?” She closed her eyes “I shall be ready in the morning Dustin” She yawned then said as a side note “I am sorry I skimped on my duties tonight, but I am clearly tired”

Laire fell back asleep, in the morning she would be better, not all the way better but she would be well enough to travel. She was strong and sickness normally didn’t stick with her too long, she was too stubbrone to stay down for long. She had a feeling that Dustin wouldn’t allow her to ride alone but she would try and get around it. She awoke servel times but sensing that Dustin was near was enough to keep her in the bed and resting. She knew she had to sleep this off so as the sun would come up she would be at least be able to fein being fit.

She was still pale as the sun came up but she stood up redid his plaids on her. She was still a little shaky, but it was clear that her restful sleep did wonders. Her fever had broken during the night she had Dustin to thank for that she turned around looking for him.

Dustin had kept watch over Laire as she slept. When she awoke a number of times he was there at her side. He would now and then sit on the edge of the bed and caress her face as she slept. He delayed the march south til morning so all could get the rest they were going to need. He would have over 2 thousand men, that were ready to fight under his command. During the night he laid down beside her and held her close to him. But early in the morning he awoke and began cooking a light breakfeast for the two of them.

When she awoke and climbed out of the blankets he was at the tent flap looking out at the quiet camp. Soon they would be on their way and who knows what lay before them. It weighed heavy on his mind that he was now responsible for the lives of over two thousand souls. He turned at the sound of her getting up and smiled. "Feeling better?" he asked her.

It seemed that with her waking, the camp began to come alive. Men came from their tents and began fires and began cooking. Up on the hill where the Kings tent was, the king rose and looked down at what was happening. His advisors, nobles had told him not to let the highlanders go, that they would only cause more problems for them. The two most outspoken were those that had betrayed their country. But The king ignored them. "They came to battle the English and that they did. I did not ask more of them so I can not tell them they can not do what they seem adament to do." he told them.

Dustin moved to her and took her into his arms and held her close. "We will be leaving soon. Are you well enough to ride?" he asked her as he moved her to the cook pot. He let her go and put some food in a couple bowls and handed her one.

Laire turned her head to Dustin’s voice one look at him and she went to him and placed her arms around him. “I thank you Dustin, only my eldest brother has even taken care of me is such a way before you have very loving hands.” She kissed his lips softly again. “Have I told you that I love you latley” She stroked his face. “Dustin I am strong enough for you to share whats on your mind, please don’t carry the burden alone.” She held him as he held her. “Aye I be ready to ride” She was scretly disapointed part of her wanted to be held by Dustin for just a little longer. But she knew that couldn’t happen for they needed to show a strong front.

Laire took the bowl “It looks really good thank you” Laire was ravished she couldn’t remember the last time she had ate, that probably had something to do with her fainting and her falling ill. She ate the bowl of food quickly keeping her eyes on Dustin. “Husband, something is troubling you what is it?” She paused and stood by his side, “You must follow your own advice Dustin and not do everything yourself, I must learn to delecate and so must you, maybe make some of your captains each in charge of some of the men” She kissed his cheek “Just a thought” She finished her breakfast and smiled up at him. “Shall we?”

"Dustin smiled, wyrly. "Aye I already have done that. But that still does not make it easy on me. I am still responsible for all of them, since they have seen fit to make me their leader. " He told her. "Many will be returning to the highlands, to be burried as it is. Though I may not have known them, thier loss and the loss to their families still weigh upon me. Now I take them into more danger."

When he finished his breakfast he took her bowl and set it down on the table. During the night he had packed up everything they would need. Cothes, blankets and their weapons. It seemed she was ready to get going, so he picked up their things, handing her her bow and quiver of arrows. It would not be long before the long march to England began. Outside the tent their horses stood. He finished tying on their things to them and then helped her mount up on the Black, before mounting up on his horse.

Eathan, Duncan and Father Marcus came riding up. It seemed that the priest had decided to go along as well. Dustin wondered if he had taken a liking to the highlanders. They were somewhat different then the lowlander clans. He nodded his head to the priest and Duncan spoke. "The clans be ready and itching to march. " At theat the othr Lairds rode up along with the two lowlander nobles.

He nodded his head to them all and then said. "When we reach England, we be seperating into three groups. Eathan will take command of one group, and Duncan a second and I be incharge of the third one." he paused a moment to see if there would be any objections. "I want it made clear now, that there will be no pillaging and unnecessary killing. The common people will not be harmed as long as they do not fight us. The English soldiers we met will be given a chance to surrender. If they fight, they die, if they surrender, they live. We take only what we need to live on. Be there horses, we will take them for our men to ride. But we leave the people with their homes intact and enough to live on. "

Again he paused a moment before continuing. "We will harrase the English army, doing what we do best and keep them running all over northern England. We will talk more when we reach England and before we seperate. Now off to your clans and lets begin our march."

He then turned to Laire. "Are you ready for what will come?"

Laire was still worried about Dustin, “Aye but Dustin this war is going to be different, they are not being forced to go, it be their choice” She hoped her words would be encouraging to him. She looked at him worried. She knew that there was little that she could say that would make him feel better. “Those men blood is not on your hands it be on the Kings hands” Immeditaily Laire flew her hand to her mouth, she had blushed a deeo shade of red she looked up at him. She knew that she shouldn’t speak ill of the king but she felt that she was right it was not Dusin’s fault, nor was it Laire’s fault that she couldn’t save everyone it was the Kings fault, their king and the English king. She turned her head and kissed him long and hard and as she was pulling out of the kiss she chewed on his bottom lip slightly. “I will be by your side always Dustin, no matter what happens”

As they exited their tent Laire noticed the men ridding towards, she was glad that Father Marcus was coming with them for she knew that he would help her stay centered. She had no idea what would be happening this time if Dustin excepted her to tend to the wounded again or what. But she said that she would stick by Dustin and she had meant it no mater what she knew that Dustin would come through this, he was too stubbrone to let anything happen to him, again. She wasn’t stupid though she knew that this would be a dangerous mission but then this was the life being married to an protector of Scotland.

Laire listened to Dustins plans it seemed to be a good one, attack them at three different places, protect the villagers and give the English a chance to fold. She nodded in agreement. She kept silent though she wanted to take it all in and make sure she knew what was going to happen. She didn’t know where Dustin would want her though, her dress had been spoiled and she hadnt the chance to change so she was still in her husbands plaids, she likeed this much better allowed her more freedom and felt more comfortable. So she remained in them.

As he turned to Laire she couldn’t help but smile his look everything about him made her want to smile. “I be ready Dustin but I do not know for what, am I setting up camp away again or are we all joining in together?”

Dustin urged his horse forward and rode forward to be at the head of the forming Highlanders. With Laire at his side he was ready to get on the way. The clans formed up with those on horseback riding along the side of the formations. Dustin looked back at them all and then urged his horse forward once more begining their long treck to England.

Before their first camp they passed the village that the English had taken Dusin to. The villagers came out and watched as the clans marched by, holding their banners and flags proudly. Two more days brought them to the boarder of Scotland and England. This is where they would seperate into their three groups. Dustin would take his clan and one of those from the lowlands. Eathan his clan and a couple of the smaller clans and Duncan another couple of clans that included the second lowander clan. Each group had roughly seven hundred men. Each group had women that Laire had trained and Eathan's and Duncan's groups had one of Father Marcus' men as well. Father Marcus stayed with Laire and Dustin.

Again Dustin talked to the Lairds and two lowland nobles. He again expressed his desire for them not to make enemies of the people. Good will could go a long way. Once everything was in order the three groups parted ways. They would send messengers back to the spot they seperated in to leave word of where they were and where they would be going with the other messengers.

It was yet another day before Dustin came upon their first town. It was walled with stone and wood and up on a low hill stood a castle in the progress of being built. The people seeing them ran from the fields to the town and he could see it had some soldiers with in it but the majority of the soldiers were up at the castle. It's walls had not been competely built.

"You will be staying behind here with Father Marcus and the other ladies with us." he told Laire. He would leave a number of men with them to keep them safe from the soldiers in the town while he delt with those in the castle. He estimated that there might be a couple hundred men there and only about thirty soldiers at the town.

Laire again felt honored to have the spot beside her husband as the rode. She noticed that everything had been packed up and she was grateful for that. This time around she would take shifts just like the other woman had this time. She rode in silence ever so oten reaching a hand out and brushing Dusin’s shoulder lovingly.

As they crossed the village where the English had held him Laire again reached out and took his hand and gave it a light squeeze. She smiled and waved to the townspeople as they passed by. Camp that night she cuddled deep into Dustin using the excuse that she still needed someone with her, in truth she just wanted to be close Dustin as much as she could before the next battle. She did the same each time they made camp.

When they reached the boarder she realized what he had planned and she was pleased, split up the women too then Laire wouldn’t be so overworked with so many injured men. She nodded to father Marcus grateful for him to stay with her. She had grown close to him and trusted him. She was surprised after what other men in the cloth had done to her bu she was gratful that he was different.

She urged the black closer and put her hand around his neck and kissed him deeply her tongue driving its way past his lips she clamied his mouth growling slightly. She broke the kiss and smiled up at him, her cheeks blushing slightly for her rash display of affection for him. “Hurrey back my husband, I have much in store for you after you take care of the damned english”

Laire would set up a simple camp this time one tent for farther Marcus, one for injured soldiers which would double for those that needed to rest. A simple fire for warmth and to cook on was all they needed she would have posts all around camp and she would even take a shift. If the men would allow her too that was.

“I do love you Dustin, and your plan is really good, you will be remembered for it, not a heartless highland heathen slashing anything that moves” She smiled at him and nodded. “Yes you will be remembered”

The previous nights him and Laire had shared their blankets on the ground, a bit away from the clansmen, so they could have a little privacy. With the town and partially built castle before them, the possiblity of a bit more comfortable night was appealing. When she gave him a deep kiss he returned it with equal fever. When he rode forward the taste of her lips were still on his and her words made him smile.

His first concern were the two hundred or so soldiers at the partially built castle. With the seven hundred men behind him he approached the castle. He stopped and leaned forward a bit in the saddle looking up at the soldiers that had hastly built a barricade where the gate would be and a secion of wall not yet finished. "I am Dustin McCloud of The Clan McCloud. Now I be a resonable man. Surrender and ye may go free, fight and you will all die. You are cut off from the town below, and I do not think you have provisions within to last you but the night. We have plenty and can stay here several days. How long do you think you can last without food."

From his position he could also tell there were a number of non military people within the castle. Workers, masons, and the like that were helping build it. "We be taking the town here shortly, while we keep you trapped here. The choice is yours."

He rode back to his men and sent a hundred of them back towards the town, with instructions to give them the choice of opening the gates and living or try to fight them and die. It was not long before the gates opened and the towns people pushed the twenty disarmed soldiers out it. Father Marcus smiled. "It seems that your husband has a way with people." he said to Laire. I suggest we set up our people within the town, just incase it be needed." He urged his horse forward as the clansmen took the soldiers prisoners and stripped them of their armor and surrounded them. The towns people were a bit nervous as the rest of the clans men with Laire and Father Marcus entered the town.

Laire proudly watced her husband ride off the taste of him still fresh in her mouth. She licked her lips smiling. She sat untop of her horse straining to see what was going on. Her mind drifted to their pass couple of nights sleeping in the open, it would be unlady like to admit it but she did like then open spaces sleeping under the stars, her husbands arms protively over her. As she sat there on her horse she could almost feel his arms around her, that feeling made her smile and relax for all would be good and se knew it.

Laire broke out her day dream as the gates opened Laire smiled at Father Marcus “Aye my husband deffiently as a way with people” She nodded “I sometimes wonder if he has always been like this or if I have had hand in it” She winked to father Marcus, “Aye he is a really good man, and I think he will be remembered”

As they entered the town she noticed how nervous the people looked she attempted to smile at them reassuraly but se knew it was pointless, she would have een nervous if it was the English that had been invading her home so she just continued to smile as tey rode on. She agreed wit father Marcus although she really hoped that they wouldn’t be needed she turned to him “What now? Do we just sit here and wait?” Her plans had been forgotten, this way would be more safe, or so she hoped, she knew that if anything happened to her. Dustins plans of being mercyful would probably be forgotten

Father Marcus just smiled and halted his horse and dismounted. The people seeing a priest with them seemed to be a bit less nervous. "Calm yourselves. They will not hurt you if you try not to do not harm to them. " he spoke to the people. "Return to your homes and send me the head of your town." he said gently as he walked among them. Slowly the people began to move away and enter the houses and buildings of the town.

Dustin waited outside of the partially built castle. His men took up positions to halfway encircle the castle. Archers prepared to fire their arrows at the defenders. The commander of the soldiers looked down at the highlanders as did some of the soldiers. They looked about as nervous as the towns people and when they saw the gates open and the highlanders that had moved to the town enter it, they looke even more so. But still their commander did not budge, nor did he try to fire arrows from the walls. He had only a few archers but he did not order them to fire.

The mayor of the town approached Laire and Father Marcus. "I am William Thurstan, mayor of Ferndale." He was an elderlyman with a short wite beard and white hair. "What is it that you wish of me?" He stood straight but one could see in his eyes he was frightened. Father Marcus looked over at Laire and nodded his head. He would let her tell Thurstan what would be required of him and the townspeople.

Laire was very grateful for Father Marcus, his presence seemed to calm down the people and relive their fears. His minispeach seemed to help them as well. She noticed them scurry back into their homes and a few race to bring the head of the town to them, Laire was curious on what he had planned. She also was wondering what her husband was doing up at the castle, she hoped that nothing too bad was happening.

She looked around at the few remaining people, they all looked poor and suffering almost as the king was starving his people to pay for battles and wars. She sadly shook her head, angery at their laird and king, she knew that Dustin would never allow his people to strave to pay for battles. She tightened her hold on her reigns attempting to remain calm.

Seeing the Mayor approach Laire dismounted and watched him completely reach then and introduce himself. She smiled to him she was waiting for Father Marcus to answer te question but when he turned it to her Laire swollowed hard and nodded. “I am Laire McCloud, wife of Dustin McCloud leader of the army that is in your town, now I assure you my husband is a decent man and we will not cause harm to anyne that does not seek to harm him. “ She paused for effect. “I will be needing a couple of houses to house any injured so I can tend to them” Seeing the bewildered look on is face she explained “I am well trained in healing, and midwifery” She nodded again “Also any empty homes that could be used to house my weary men and ladies would be greatly apperciated” She paused. “We really mean you know harm, your king intends on invaiding our country and my husband intends to show him that cant happen.”

Laire looked over at the Farther Marcus silently asking him if there was anything that she may had left out. “I say again, my husband is a good man he will not take up arms against anyone that hasn’t done the same to him first”

The Mayor of the town listened to wht Laire said and he took some hope in what she told him. There are a couple houses near the north wall that are empty at this time. " He still looked a bit nervous as he continued. "But what be your husbands intentions for the town and its people?" he asked her. "The King's men have taken everything they could from us when they marched north a few days ago."

Indeed it looked as if the people of the town were just holding on. The highlanders spread out through the town, taking a look around. Some broke out thier cooking equipment and opened up bags of supplies that they brought and began cooking . They saw the hungry look of some of the people and bid them join them for a good meal. The towns people were a bit hessitent at first but slowly accepted the invitation of the highlanders and soon were sitting, talking and eating with them. The mayor noticed this and for the first time smiled. One of those that had gone to get him he instructed to show Laire and Father Marcus the two houses that were empty.

Dustin looked back at the town and grinned as he again spoke to the commander of the soldiers . "It seems that the people of the town have more common sence they you do. Surrender and you will be able to leave and make your way further south. Ye will not be harmed, but you will have to leave your weapons and armor here." The more weapons and armor he could take from the english was less that they would use against him and Scotland. Making weapons and armor was costly, and to replace them would deplete the English King's treasury.

Finally the English commander came down from the wall and the barricade at the gate was opened. Behind him came the other soldiers. He walked alone towards Dustin, stopped a few feet away, drew his sword and laid it on the ground. The other soldiers did the same and then removed their armor and threw it down as well. "I am glad you made the right choice. Spilling blood unnecessarily is foolish. You may leave and take only what supplies you will need. Also you may take a couple bows and quivers of arrows so you may hunt and feed yourselves." Now the common people that were in the castle began exiting and making their way down to the town.

He watchec the English soldiers depart along with those from the town a short time later. He then entered the castle and looked around. It looked as if the main house was done as well as barracks for soldiers and the stables. Only the one section of wall and the gate had to be finished and some finishing touches inside the main house. "I want a tunnel dug from the stables under the wall. Then cover the openings. I think I will have the town's people complete the work on this castle. Might come in handy one day. Make sure they do not know of the tunnel, just in case the english come back and occupy it. " He grinned and his men understood and set about the task. He then told the rest of the highlanders and lowanders to make camp in the castle. There would be plenty of room for them and it would be dry and out of the weather. Once he was sure things were in order he rode down to the town to find Laire.

Laire could see that the Mayor seemed a little relived, and yet nervous at the same time. “My husband will take nothing that we don’t need” She could see that he was still nervous. “You will see my husband means you no harm, but I must ask why your king’s men took everything and leave you with next to nothing?” She was concered about the people and if the English were willing to cause harm to their own people what would they be willing to do to her her husband and his men.

Laire noticed some of the scotland men starting meals and then inviting the English to join them. “Aye, my husband and his men are kind, as we speak they be inviting your people to eat. She smiled. “And if you have any injured I will see to them, I stitched up many of your country men already I know this many men is frightening but we are trying to cut off the resources for the king, not his people.” She paused “You look famished why don’t you join a fire and eat something”

Laire remounted her horse and begain to ride toward the houses that the mayor had pointed out she looked around at the people and was almost moved to tears the people had so little, then her tears turned into anger, how dare the king do this to his people. She was furious once she found the houses. She looked around for Dustin but assuming that his was still at the castle she dismounted and tied her horse to a tree and walked into the house. She figured she would be safe since father Marcus would be behind her as surely would more of the men that would want to protect her. Laire looked around the little hut and sadly shook her head nothing was left but it would have to do, she would have some of the women sleep in here , she had no problems sleeping outside again, as long as she had Dustin she could sleep anywhere.

Laire nodded to herself and exited the hut and reached for her horse bag. When she felt a small tug on her kilt, she looked down and their stood a little girl Laire guessed she was barely 5 summers she looked so timid that Laire kelt down so she looked less scary. “Well hello how are you?” Laire asked softly. The little girl bit her lower lip and held out her arm, Laire noticed a rash. She smiled at the little girl. “I think you have found yourself some poisen Ivy” The little girls complexion whitened and Laire held her hands “It is alright you will be okay” Laire stood and pulled out some salve from her back and poured it on the little girls arm and then wrapped some clothe on it” The little girl beemed “It no longer hurts” Laire nodded “Now try and keep it dry, I will change your clothe before I leave, or will show your mayor how to do it” The little girl smiled “My name be Bridget and I heard you talking to Mayor, I hear you say that you fixed some men.” She paused “Maybe you saved my father and brother?” Laire smiled and patted her head “Purhapes I did” Bridget threw her arms around Laires neck and hugged her, Laire was slightly surprised but wrapped her arms around the little girl. “I am glad you are feeling Bridget, now why don’t you go to one of he fires and eat something. When Bridget looked too scared to do that Laire smiled and whispered “Okay how about this , you tell them that Laire McCloud sent you and I just know they will let you eat, I am their Leaders wife” She laughed as Bridget ran off to deliver the message. Sure truned to father Marcus “I know they would have fed the child either way, but this way Bridget feels okay in asking, since its as order from me” She winked and smiled putting back the suppiles into her saddle bag.

“So father Marcus when do you think my husband will be back”

Father Marcus could not answer her question. What her husband was doing might take time. "Only god knows."

Dustin entered the town and saw the clansmen there sharing their food with the town's people. This warmed his heart, for it would help make a more binding and lasting impression with the people. But it also caused him anger to see how the English Soldiers had taken almost all that the people had. Looking around he could see the towns people seemed to be getting use to his clansmen. They were eating and talking with them, some even laughing at stories being told.

He looked around to see if he could find Laire but he did not see her. He dismounted and continued his search. As he walked with his horse trodding along behind him, he came upon a little girl with bandages wraped about her arms. He smiled as he recgonized the work of his wife. As the girl apporached him, he squated down so he was on her level and asked, "Lass, the woman that put those bandages on you, do you know where she might be?"

The little girl looked at him, "Are you hurt and need some help?" she asked Dusting chuckled, "No little one, she be me wife and I am looking for her." The little girl smiled, such a bright and warm smile it filled him with such a feeling that made him want to scoop her up and hug her. "Oh!" she said, "She is this way. Follow me." she then lead him to the two houses that was being turned over to Laire.

Meanwhile three men were making their way towards the town. They had ensured that others had made it back to their homes before heading back to theirs. All three wore bandages that had been given to them by Laire and her ladies. They had changed them everyday as they had been instructed. Now they were almost home. As they approached the town they noticed the highlanders and stopped. They didn't know if they should continue on or wait until the clansmen left. "I don't know about you two but I want to make sure my wife and little girl is alive and well." One said and rose from where they lay hidden and approached the town. As he neared it he was stopped by a couple clansmen. He recgonized the colors of their clothing, the same that the woman, Laire McCloud, had worn.

"I am Devon Blair and I live here." he told them. They looked at him and at the bandages he wore. "I was with the wounded back in your country that was relased to return home." he was a bit nervous. The two clansmen, McClouds, took him to their Sergeant and he took Devon into the town. Devon looked around amazed at what he saw. Clansmen and the people he had grown up with and lived near eating and talking together. Some of the towns people rose from the fires when they saw him and greeted him, hugging him and shaking his hand.

Laire noticed that how vague his answer was and she didn’t like it but there was very little she could do about it she nodded. Since the houses were bare Laire wasn’t really sure what she was going to do. She figured who ever slept in the hut could use their plaids to keep them warm.

She exited the hut and was met by a small line of people it had seemed that Bridget had showen off her bandages Laire smiled. The first person in line was a young mother with a crying baby, she took both of them inside the hut. “Izabella just wont latch what am I doing wrong?” The young mom was in tears Laire calmed her down and sat the mother down and took the young baby girl in her hands she smiled at the baby. “Has your milk come in yet?” The mom nodded. Laire then asked her to squeeze her nipple till some milk came out as she was doing that Laire swaddled the baby tightly in the blanket. “Some babies need to be swaddled they feel safier” Laire then handed the baby back to the mother and she immediately begain to suckle Laire smiled as the mom nearly leaped for joy. “Now stay here until that baby is full”

She exited the hut again and greeting Father Marcus. “ Do not let anyone in there she be feeding her baby, and both are new at it so the need some privacy” She met other people most with simple injuries needing only stiches, it seemed some had tired to fight off the English taking the meager supplies that they had left. It took a bit longer then Laire had attended but she made her way back to the hut the door was opened and she saw the mom running towards him. “Thank you miss, you saved my babies life, babies that are not suckelers are left of in the cold of night to die.” Laire was shocked. “Now babies can live off of goat milk, no need to throw them out in the cold” Laire smiled. “Tell all your friends”

Finally she made it back to her hut and met father Marcus. She marched right up to him “Father Marcus maybe you can explain something to me. “How can a king do this to his people? He is dooming this people to a long painful death, I don’t know how many people I stitched up and they all said the same thing. They were trying to save their little supplies from the soldiers” Laire was hoping mad she was pacing back and forth, only one person could calm her down right now and Laire had no idea where he was at the moment.

Laire stopped her pacing only when she saw the man enter the camp, she immeditaly reconized her work, she smiled. One of the men she had worked on had finally made it back home, she was curious where everyone else was though surely there were more people then just the one that belonged to this village little bridgett had inquried on her father and brother so where were they? She went back to her paceing and mumbling very unlady like things under her breath.

Dustin followed the little girl and saw a small crowd about a couple houses. He saw his wife tending to many of the towns people there along with the priest Father Marcus. He stood there and grinned as he saw how the people warmed to her and the priest. "Your wife is a great lady, sir." the little girl told him. "She is very kind and beautiful."

He looked down at her smiling. "Yes I know. " What she was doing along with what the men had done made the people of at least this town more friendly towards the clansmen. He knew that anyone coming to the town now or going off to other villages or towns would spread the word.

Suddinly the little girl at her side began running and crying out loudly, "Daddy!" as she ran towards a man with a bandage on his head and arm. One of his clansmen was with the man and both turned at the sound of the girls voice. The man ran forward and scoped the little girl up into his arms, hugging her to him tightly, tears of joy rolling down his cheeks.

Father Marcus looked at Laire as she asked how a king could do such a thing to his people. "The english king is just a man. Those that come to power....." he thought a moment, "well most of them." he said as he thought of Dustin and the Scottish king. "let it go to their heads. They think the people are there to serve him and provide for him. He does as he wishes. " he looked up at the yelling of the little girl and saw Dustin watching everything. "But those like your husband there...." he nodded in Dustins direction, "Now they I think, feel that they are the ones that must provide for the people and take care of them. Go, go to him. I will finish up here."

Laire heard young Bridgets cry and saw her race in the arms of a man. She smiled her heart warmed, so one of the men she had saved was her father. Laire was relived she couldn’t bear to think that the little girl would have loss her daddy. She watched from afar and she pictured her daughter one day doing that to Dustin and she smiled brodly. They looked so happy that Laire would hold off on checking his healing. Give the happy family time to reunite.

Seeing the happy reunion distracted Laire from her angery tirrirade. She continued to watch them she was transixed into them, but finally she broke her gaze and continued to see some of the towns people . many just wanted to thank her for tending to their people. Laire was amazed, the town people were so grateful for so little. Her anger towards their king rilled up in her again.

It was then that Farther Marcus explained to her the differences, she was about to go into another whirlwind of temper fueled tirad but then he excused her. Laire smiled to him and thanked him she then quickly bowed her head to him and took her leave, she was anxious to see her dear husband to feel his arms around her. To thank him for being better then the damned English king.

Laire found him a little ways off and she could tell that he had been watching her. She placed her hands on her hips and shook her head at him, she couldn’t keep the smile off her face or the joy in her eyes though “And prey tell husband how long have you been staying here watching me”

She lauged and walked to him and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his lips softly barely touching she winked at him, fulling know that she was teasing him, she wanted to see what he was going to do about it. She leaned into the crock of his neck softly kissing his neck and sucking on his ear lobe. “So you like watching me work?” She whispereed softly into his ear.
“I will let Bridget reuinit with her father then I must look at he bandges then I am all yours Dustin, as long as you do not get too busy” She giggled softly and kissed him again. This time just as gently as the first barely touching his lips purposely teasing him.

Dustin could not help but be a bit choaked up about seeing the little girl reunited with her father. These people were much like his own and those of Scotland. Only those nobles that thought only of themselves made things miserable for them. He like his father before him, had tried hard to make sure the people under him had what they needed and lived good lives, and most of all be able to live the lives they wanted to.

As Laire approached and then stopped putting her hands on her hips and looked at him, he grinned. "Oh, been here a bit. I see you have made an impression on the people here also." When she put her arms about his neck he placed his about her and drew her close. "You be happy to know that there will not be no need for you or any of your ladies today. I have sent the english soldiers on their way."

At the mention of the little girl's name, he looked over at her and her father. "Now there is something you can be thankful and take heart in. Think of the other reuinons that are taking place from all those that you helped save. "

About that time a womans voice cried out. "Devon, oh my dear god can it really be!" a woman came running her arms wide, tears running down her cheeks, towards Bridgett and Devon. Devon , holding Bridgett in one arm encircled his wife with the other and drew her close. Bridgett turned her head to look at Laire, a big smile on her face.

"See to the bandages my dear." he moved a hand down so it rested on her ass and he patted it. "Then we can find a nice quiet place to be alone in." He knew that she still had nothing on under the kilt she still wore nor the shirt of his that she wore either.

Laire smiled at his answer. “Aye, seems you are changing the minds of many Dear husband” She paused “Their king left them with nothing, many men had sword wounds trying to defend their meger suppiles of food left seemed anyone that had the means to defend themselves were at the castle” Laire was getting rield she took deep breathes to calm herself she really loved the feeling of his arms around her. She felt so complete. Like nothing in the world could cause harm to her with him there. She was amazed on how his touch could make her burn with desire she didn’t want to tear her self away from him but she knew that eventually she would have to the mans bandages.

Laire smiled at Dustin’s word “I suppose there is many men live another day” Laire didn’t finish her though, which was that she felt that she only fixed them up so their worthless king could have them die in just a different battle. Hearing some one scaream a name drew her attenion to it and she saw the same gentle man embrace a woman, she could only assume it was a husband and wife and by the way they were acting it seemed so. Laire watched them and her heart was lifted, if she had allowed these men to come home then she did good.

Laire turned her attenton to Dustin as she felt his hand slide their way to her ass she giggled and stroked his chest “Now, now Dustin” She smiled it had seemed her little tempations had worked she wanted be be with him again, She love on him and feel his love. She nodded “Aye husband met me behind those bushes” She pointed “Then we can find some private space” She winked and kissed his lips hotly. Then she broke from the kiss and turned and walked to the little family. Little Bridgett ran to her and Laire picked her up Bridgett giggled as Laire carried her over. Devon bowed her head to Laire “Frist you save my life then your husband and his people share their foods with us” He was cut off my Bridgett “As she made my arm no longer itch” Laire smiled “Well Bridget you mustent play in those pants anymore right?” Bridget smiled hugged Laire then wiggled out of her arms and again glued herself to her father. Laire knelt down to her level “You know what Bridget I think your father and mother would love some wild flowers, now why don’t you go pick some but stay away from the stinging plants. Laire watched Bridgett run off. “I did not want her here while I look at that” She pointed at the bandageds “Aye I see that you have been changing them, have they given you any problmes?” Devon shook his head. “No they have been fine” Laire smiled “Well I would like to take a look if I can” He nodded and Laire unbandaged his wound and took a look “Seems to be healing nicly I give it one more day and I will take the sitiches” She rebandaged it and stood. “Now where are the other men that were with you?”

Laire then saw Bridget running towards them with a big boquet of flowers she picked one and gave it to Laire. Laire smiled and gave Bridget a hug, “Now remember Bridget I want to see your arm in the morning maybe you can bring your daddy along and thanks for the flower Bridget” Laire bowed her head and walked off to where she told Dustin to wait for her. “Dustin? Dustin”

Dustin was reluctent to let her go but she needed to check on the one man. It made him feel good to see a family reunited and it gave him hope for the future. If Eathan and Duncan were finding and doing the same as he was, then all of the boarder lands of England would surely be more freiendly to the Scots and perhaps even become part of Scotland. Now wouldn't that be a fine thing to see. He moved to the place indicated by Laire, but found a better spot for them.

Since the two houses that it seemed had been turned over to her and Father Marcus would house the women of the clans and be used to help the towns people, they could not use them. But he found a small stable behind them. It was clean and dry. He tied his horse outside and took his bed roll inside and laid it on some straw. It would do for now. How long they would be staying in the town was uncertain. At least a couple days . He heard Laire's voice calling him and he stepped outside of the little stable. "Here." he said and walked over to her. He guided her to it and inside where he pulled her to him and kissed her deeply. A hand moved down to her ass and then under the kilt to rest on her ass cheeks. He gave them a squeeze and as he borke the kiss, "Mmmmmm now my lovely one, I think, if you be willing again, to have you back here."

Laire turned to the voice of her dearest Dustin and as he reached her she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him as he led her over the the stables she was grateful that they were going to have some privacy. Entering the stable she could tell the love that he had taken to set up an area for him. “Why Dustin you always find new ways to make me fall in love with you all over again” She grinned and kissed him deeply moaning softly into the kiss. “Mmmm I love you deeply Dustin”

As his hand traveled down to her ass she growled teasinly Laire looked up at him and smiled she slolwly undid the belt that held his plaid together and she grinned up at him while she allowed it to slip to te ground she again held him close and looked up at him. “Be gentle my lover and we can try.” She lowered herself onto the mat and laid on her side looking up at him. “Come my husband I have missed your touch”

Dustin removed his clothing and laid down beside his lovely wife. It did not take him long to remove the kilt and shirt from her so she too was completely naked on the blankets. Moving a hand to her leg, he gently and lightly began moving the tips of his fingers over it and then slowly upwards. Over her thigh and hips then up over her side and then around one of her breasts and its nipple. He leaned in to kiss her neck and shoulders as well as lightly nip at the soft warm flesh with his teeth.

His hand closed on her breast, squeezing it as he eased her down on to her back. Slowly he moved down from her neck and shoulders over her chest to her breasts, his toung lightly flicking the skin as his lips kissed her skin. He brought his mouth to the tip of her breast and flicked his toung over its now hard and erect nipple as he squeezed it.

Several miles to the west Duncan had come across a village and another castle. But this one was fully built and housed three hundred men at arms. The village did not have any walls about it and he and the highlanders were able to move into it with out any trouble. The people were frightened and some tried to gain access to the castle but was denied it by the soldiers. Duncan set up his men to face the castle but out of bow range.

He looked at the people of the village and noted that they looked half starved. Questioning them he learned that the soldiers had taken almost everything up into the castle for the King when he returned with another army. They had nothing left. This angered Duncan. He rode back to his men ordering some to break out their supplies and share it with the villagers and sent yet others out to hunt game so they could have meat. He then addressed the garrison of soldiers much as Dustin had but the soldiers were not about to surrender. They had food and water to last them for a very long time. They had a castle with a moat, drawbridge, gate and portcollis. It would take more then seven hundred men to take it.

As in the town where Dustin was, the village had a man that had fought for the king against the Scotts. He returned to find the Scotts there sharing their food with them and the English Soldiers in the castle with everything the villagers had. It shocked and angered him that the soldiers that were suppose to protect his friends and family would do such a thing to them. He also noticed a few women among the Scotts that were treating vairous ailments of the villagers, the same women that had tended his wounds and those of other englishmen. Duncan's wife was among them. Elizabeth had come with her husband as did the lairds wives. All these young women were lovely and to some very beautiful. The man and his companions coming south had come to call them their Angles of Mercy and it seemed that indeed that was what they were, caring for those that were their enemies. The Scotts were treating his people with kindness and respect. It made him ashamed to be an englishman.

He decided to inform Duncan of something that only a few knew. He sought Duncan out and said, "I have information that you might be intrested in." He went on to explain about an escape tunnel that lead off into the forest. He knew where the exit was and would show Duncan. Duncan and a few of the highlanders went to the opening that Rufus showed them, as the rest of the clansmen prepared to assult the castle. The tunnel up to a room in the main house of the castle and it did not take Duncan and his men long to make their way out and along the walls to the gate. With the men outside keep the soldier's attention up on the walls, Duncan and his group took out the two guard at the gate house quietly and before long the drawbridge was being lowered, the gate opened and portcullous raised.

Soldiers poured down the steps from the walls but Duncan and his men held them as the Scotts poured across the drawbridge and into the castle. The battle did not take long. Most of the soldiers died and those that did not Duncan had bound and taken to the cells beneath the castle. He would not let them go as Dustin had, such was his anger with them. The food and supplies he had taken from the castle and back to the village. He then sent a messenger back to the rendevous point to inform Eathan and Dustin of their victory. He would leave a few men at the castle when they left to help the villagers and when if the English army did come back they would be able to gather information on its strength.

He gave over the care of the prisoners to the villagers. He could tell their anger with them and told them that they were to be fed and not abused.

Laire left out soft sighs and moans at his soft touch. She shivered but not by the cold, for it was really warm, but rather by the desire to be with her husband and for him to be in her. She ached for his touch. All discpline when out the window and she wrapped her feet around his legs and flipped them Laire climbed untop of him and kissed him deeply her tongue driving its way past his lips and reached his and danced her hands stroked his face her hips grinded into his as she growled low in her throat.

Elizabeth had rode with with her husband and she saw the state of the people and he heart broke. They looked half starved and terrified she noticed that many were nursing injuries but with no supplies they would be unable to do much. She patted Duncans arms “Dear you travel up and do what you need myself and the ladies will stay down here and tend to these poor souls” She dismounted along with the other ladies.

As the men broke open their food Elizabeth and the ladies walked around she could see that man of these people were injured she sat down beside a young boy who looked to be around 9 or 10 he had a piece of dirty clothe around a bloddy wound. Elizabeth smiled reassuraly at him “Would you like me to fix that up?” She noticed that a crowd had now gatheried it seemed that everyone was waiting to see how she would handle it. Elizabeth simply smiled and mixed a drink to give to him. “This will make it so you don’t feel anything” She then cleaned the wound and stitched up. She then covered in in a clean clothe.

As the towns people saw that she had handled it right and the boy was safe they lined up with all the ladies with all aiments from being withchild and worried about the babe, to rashes from searching for food in the poisen Ivy. Elizabeth and the ladies worked hard and by the time everyone was settled around a fire again for more food she was exhausted with the others. But it had seemed the towns people had warmed up to her.

Back in the stable Laire warmth and moisture was surely pouring down on to her husbands member. “Ohh husband holding all those babies today makes me want my own.” She paused in her kissing. “With all the war be it a good time though, there are herbs to stop the seed from working, I had some in my pocket in case I was taken by the english when we went to rescue you” She kissedhim hard. “But I need you in me now!”
