Alec's men were loud but when the ladies entered they all stood. And quited down slightly. But the noise started up again. Alec had made sure his men were at least somewhat poilate.

He eventually came down and everyone stood as he came in and he nodded to them. Once he sat he directed Adriana to sit to his left. His brother sat on his right with his wife beside him. Eveyone started eating at once and it was a horenduse sight. Food went flying everywhere.

Adriana glanced to the men when they stood up. How polite. Then they were loud again. Men. Seeing Alec, she smiled a little, but tried to hide it. Catriona noticed, and smiled playfully, nudging her friend. Seeing that Alec wanted her to sit by him, she complied. The meal, was rather rowdy, and she didn't really enjoy all the rowdy men being all rowdy.

Alec looked over to Adriana and sighed as he drank from his Ale. "What be troubling you?" Heasked softly. He hadnt missed Catriona smile nor her nudge and wondered what that was all about.

After the meal he stood and all became quiet. "Men we have returned from" He paused, not wanting to upset Adriana so he didnt discribe England in a rude way "England" His men mumered amounts themselves. but he Continued, "I am please on the building that is going on" He smiled "Take a break I am sure your family misses you"

"But my Larid your home still isnt" Alec held up his hand to stop any talk looking at Adriana out of the corner of his eye, he wouldnt know that he had everyone elses's place built up frist, the only thing repaired in his house was Annoras room and the main rooms.

Adriana saw Alec drink ale, she tried to hide her discomfort, and uneasyness about him drinking, about any of the men drinking. She would have tried to slip away, but that would bring attention to herself that she didn't want. "I'm fine," she replied softly.

She sat back after her meal, which she had tried to eat, with the growing fear that the men would get drunk and Alec would get angry while drunk. She shivered a slightly, and folded her hands in her lap, listening to Alec speak. He stopped a man from commenting about his home. Isn't what?

After his speech he sat down. The fact that Adriana looked nervous didnt get passed him. But the reason why did. Nothing seemed out of the ondinary his men werent fighting sure they were drinking but no more then usual. He made a note to ask his brother about this later.

Soon the meal was over and men starting returning to their homes he called his brother over. "Talk to your wife, find out why Adriana seemed so white today, she seemed scared and I dont like it"

Adriana slipped away when dinner was over and the men were heading home. She needed air. No one had hit her. No one had been angry. Calm down, she told herself. Men can't all be like her uncle. Oh she hoped not. She was so lost in her thoughts that she wasn't paying attention to where she was going.

Connor nodded. "Alright I will find out." He walked to his wife and helped her up and then started walking. He appointed someone to help Adriana to their cottage when she was ready.

Once home Connor turned to his wife. "Alec notticed how Lady Adriana was acting tonight at dinner do you know why"

Brodrick apporched Adriana (the one from before with Annora) "Lady Adriana, are you alright?"

Catriona glanced to her husband when he came back to her after talking with Alec. She got up with his help, and walked home with him. Sje wondered where Adriana slipped off to, she worried about her friend.

Her gazeshifted to Conner when he asked about Adriana. "she doesn't like when men drink," she told him softly.

Adriana looked up when Brodrick approached her. "oh, I'm fine," she replied with a smile as she tried to cover up that she was uneasy.

Wrinkling his brow Connor loocked at his wife again. "Did something happen to her when her uncle drank" He knew a lot about his wife's friend. But this worried him. He nodded. "Alec noticed how she reacted at dinner" He paused "He might want to talk to you tommrow, but for now lets get you some rest"

Brodrick leaned up against a tree. "You dont seem fine if I may say so" He looked at her. "You dont have to tell me but I will tell you one thing, with all the stuff you are doing with Annora a lot of people are going to feel protective of you"

Catriona nodded solemnly. It seemed things were worse for Adriana. Her uncle was always horrible, but something must have happened to have made Adriana more frightened. "he was an angry, violent drunk." she took her husbands hand. "will you go look for her if she doesn't come back in a moment?"

Adriana's gaze shifted to Brodrick. "Protective of me?" her cheeks flushed. No one other than her aunt who visited every now and then and Catriona had even care about her.

Connors anger grew, not at his wife but at the pain he could see that she was in. "Did Adriana ever get injured at the hands of her uncle?" He paused "I dont want you to betray her trust, but you know that Alec will fight for her, and if she was hurt Adriana can not go back"

Brodick smiled "Mi Lady you think too poorly of yourself, you helped our dear Annora you have worked your way into the peoples hearts"

Catriona knew that keeping Adriana's secret wouldn't be good, because something bad could happen. "aye, he hurt her. If your going to tellthe Laird, only tell him, she'll hate it if every starts to look at her differently, or acts more cautious around her. I never met her uncle, she was always with her aunt when they came to the games at the border. Adriana probably would never have told me if she didn't have injuries she tried to hide from me."

Adriana smiled softly. "oh, that's sweet." she never felt important. Not even a little bit. She just felt like she was nothing more than someone in the way. A nuicance.

Connor held his wife close. "Ahh that makes sense, but surely she would know that Alec wouldnt..." He trailed off "I guess she wouldnt know" He frowned "I guess she wouldnt know" He licked his lips "Soon I will tell Alec but not now, now I want you to rest, I worry about you so"

Brodrick cocked his head to the side. "Mi lady, you have my word you are safe here" He didnt know why he said it but he felt as if he needed to say it. "Its getting late shall I escort you to your Friends?"

Alec appeared out of nowhere. "I will be doing that Brodrick" He growled out.

Brodrick bowed his head "As you wish my Laird"

"Come lady Adriana" Alec spoke gruffly" He held out his arm for her to take. "Are you alright, you looked pale at dinner:

"she was the same way with my father," she replied softly. She buried her head into his chest and sighed. "alright I'll rest."

Safe. It seemed so far from her. Her gaze shifted to Alec when he came and said he would take her home. He seemed to always be there. She took his arm and blushed when he asked if she was alright. "I'm fine," she told him softly.

Connor laid down with his wife. He had a feeling that Alec would be returning Adriana to their door shortly. He softly stroked his wife's hair. "My love you have seen her hurt havnt you." He kissed her softly. "We will protect her"

Alec shook his head. "I am sorry Mi Lady but I do not belive you" He paused stopped and softly took two fingers and lifed her chin up. "I will find out what is troubling you" THey were at her frieds down so he nodded his head. "Good night"

Catriona cuddled with him as best as she could with her big belly in the way. "I'm glad she'll be protected here." her eyes closed and she laid her head upon him. "I worry about her."

Adriana looked up to him when he lifted her chin. She worried he would find out, and cast her aside because of it. "There isn't anything to find out." All she wanted to do was forget all the bad things, not to let everyone know. "Good night," she replied softly, stepping away to pull the door open.

Connor wanted to ask more but also wanted his wife to sleep. When the door opened he softly stood and greeted Adriana. "Lady Adriana, I hope you feel welcomed here," He paused "There is an extra bed and I put up some linen so you have some privacy" He looked at her. "I am so grateful that you came, Catriona hasnt smiled thi much in a while, she seems nervous"

Outside Alec stood until he was sure that she was saflty in there. Then turned around and went to his pond stipped off all his clothes and dove in. He needed to clear his mind. A few laps later he got out and wrapped his kilt around him. Shivering slightly in the cold but walked to his keep.

Catriona eventually drifted off to sleep, her heavy body tired from the days events.

Adriana glanced to Conner as he greeted her and told her about the bed. "thank you," she replied with a smile. "I made a promise to Catriona to come to her side if she got pregnant. I would have come even if I had to walk.

Connor nodded and returned back to bed with his wife and feel asleep.He knew he would have to anserw to Alec in the morning. It would not go good. Alec hated any violence againt women or children, he had banished a few men that had been charged with beating their wife's or children, a couple he had ordered killed because of the seriousness of the abuse. To know that Adriana had been hurt would not end well.

Alec was back in his room a fire had been light but with the open holes it did little to heat up. He sighed. So much more to do before this room could be repaired, he did notice the furs placed up though, that did help out a little though.

Adriana changed into her gown behind the linen, then she laid down in the bed made for her. With a sigh, she drifted off to sleep, a restless sleep, she rarely slept peacefully. Now she had the fear that her uncle would come after her and drag her back.

Alec didnt sleep much either, Adriana seemed so nervous and scared at dinner. He wanted to get to the bottom of it. He finally got out of bed and walked to his daughters room but like always he stood at the enterance and just watched her. She didnt have her dose of the medicne the doctor ordered but he couldnt help but notice that Annora seemed to be sleeping better.

He hated himself for not being able to get close, but itwas better this way. He was certain of it.

Morning came and Alec dressed in his kilt but kept his chest bare and went down for breakfast.

Adriana woke up in the morning, and just laid there in the bed, not wanting to move. She had a feeling Alec would try to find out why she was uneasy at dinner. He seemed he would be as determined as she was. With a sigh, she rolled to her side, and hugged her pillow

Alec noticed that Adriana was not there at breakfast yet. He looked around for His brother and his wife to see if they were there. He knew something was up, but he didnt know how far the protection would have to go until he figured out what was wrong with her, what had her so scared.

He would have to contact his brother and demand to know what he knew.

Adriana sat up slowly, and dressed in a light blue dress. As much as she'd like to stay in bed all day, it was better to face what lay ahead and get it over with. She brushed her hair and let it loose around her shoulders. Then she slipped her shoes on and started to leave the house.

Alec had grown impatient and walked to where Adriana was staying. Seeing her he sighed. Luckily he had brought a plaid with his colours he handed it to her. "Put this on so oyu dont offend my men" He looked at her.
