Ella made him look at her and she says, “Kaimar if you die, my body will remain here but my heart will not. How could I ever face our son or daughter if I just let you die? This is what you did when you were cursed. You gave into what it wanted from you isolation and despair. But sometimes you have to fight back. And you are not even willing to try…what if that fog comes back when our son or daughter is grown? What if it wanted to take Chole? You would fight…”

Kaimar lifted hiss head quickly, "I would fight until my dying breath!" he said quickly, though quietly, "And I would not give up until I had defeated it. Their lives are far more important than mine, as is your life more important." He put his head back to the wall, "What I gave into then was of my own doing, Ella." He continued, "It as all I had left, I had nothing left to give and so I let it take me and change me. That curse was just the final change. But now I have something to fight for. If I give myself to the fog, it will have to leave you alone and our child. It cannot touch innocence like that, not when it has had its retribution on the one that created it. It is the law of magic, my love. I created that demon and it is me that must vanquish it somehow."....

Ella smiled some as she finally saw some of his spark come back. “You have to fight. And as many souls it possesses inside it, I do not think it was just you who helped make it. You are just its new target.” She kisses him gently. “Come lets see what we can find out about it in the library. I have a feeling that your parents went up against the fog too. If research does not work, we can talk to your parents’ spirits at the tomb.”

Now Kaimar knew more than ever why his truly loved and adored this woman. Getting to his feet, he followed her into the library and it wasn't long before they found old journals and references to the fog and what it did. Sitting down with one such journal, Kaimar began reading it aloud. "Listen to this, my love." He said, "It says here the fog comes once every 500 years to claim one tainted soul. If the chosen soul refuses its will, it manifests as a parasite in a living host to carry out the deed leading them to the darkness. Sound familiar?" Perhaps that was what had happened to his parents. His mother or father had refused the fog in some way and it had infected someone to murder them instead and then his curse.....

Ella looks over the journal with him. “My love, my mother’s book mentions something about this too.” She snaps her fingers and her book appears. She says pointing to section in book, “The Reaper often appears as a fog tricking people into giving up their souls thinking that it will leave their loved ones alone for good. But in fact it hunts certain bloodlines of noble blood. Usually taking male souls because they are easier to fool. However those who are strong enough to resist it, end up getting killed by someone under the influence of The Reaper. There are ways to defeat it but all leave a witch in a sleep state for three months.”

Kaimar read the passage with Ella and felt his heart sink. "So it did come for my parents." He said sadly, "And it came for me too. It wants my bloodline gone for some reason, I can feel it." When she mentioned leaving a witch in a deep sleep for three months, he looked at her quickly. "No." He said, "I can't risk you doing that. You need strength, my love, to carry our child. What if you lost it while you slept? It would be my fault."...

Ella looks at him and says, “I can do it my love. I have too.” She looked for more information in the book. “The Reaper goes after souls to gain power. It is said that The Reaper used to have human form. But lost it to the battle of Vasas. The Reaper tried to gain power faster by absorbing witch souls. But if it tries to absorb a pure soul, the pure soul can bring back the body and become mortal. Making the Reaper able to be killed. The pure soul can return to its body but be in a sleep state.” She looks at him. “Let me do this. I can put a protection spell on the baby so nothing goes wrong.”

Kaimar didn't like this at all and shook his head, "It's too dangerous." He said with genuine fear, "My love, your magic is beyond anything I've ever known, but so are the consequences. I remember the first time you let me have my human form back. It laid you up in bed, weak and dizzy for days. You can't control it fully yet." And he waved his hand at the lingering rot she had created in her tantrum....

She could not help that she could not control the powers very well when it came to controlling her emotions. She looks him in the eye. "No offense honey but you did the same thing for 500 years to your own castle. Its hard to explain how to control this. And how can you blame me for throwing a tantrum? If I didn't you would still be trying to decide to throw your life away. We both deserve to do this equally. We are happy together when we do things the right way. You can't just give up and give yourself to that darkness. You promised you would never leave me and I promised that I would always protect you no matter what the cost. I'm not going to go back on that."

Kaimar narrowed his eyes, but he conceded the point. "Then we have three days to put some control into your magic." He told her, "And I know my promise to you. And I wouldn't be leaving you. I'd be right here." He touched her chest where her heart was, "Always and forever as it should be." He leaned forward and kissed her, knowing deep down that she wouldn't give up on this, no matter the consequences. He just hoped she could handle them....

She narrowed her eyes mimicking him. But then broke into a big smile. A smile that said that he would not regret trusting her for once. She did have control over her powers most the time. She strokes his cheek. "You know what I mean by being here with me. Yes I could hold you in my heart forever but the real thing is much better. Trust me." She starts going through all the magic pages she can to figure out which spell to use that would be safe with her having a child inside her.

Kaimar smiled also and cupped her hand on his cheek before sitting back to watch her go through her grimoir. He still didn't like it, but he trusted that she would know what to do at the right time. However, he still built a plan b in his mind should things go wrong. He had to plan for every eventuality, including Ella getting it wrong, though it was a million to one shot, it could still happen. He had to prepare....

She could feel that something was up with him. She gets a little frustrated and goes out to the family tomb. Maybe they would know what to do. She didn't know how to keep him from hurting himself to protect her. She goes inside the tomb quietly and sits on the floor. "I am sorry to bother you but the dark fog called the deeper has returned. He wants to sacrifice himself to it. I've convinced him to fight for now but he doesn't want me to use magic to help because I'm pregnant and I don't know what to do because I don't want to lose him or the baby. I could really use your guidance."

Midas was the one to appear and he looked down at Ella sat on the ground and crouched down to join her. "Come child, take comfort from an old ghost." He offered and put a tender arm around her. He sighed and kissed the side of her head before speaking again. "I understand his fear, my dearest daughter." He said quietly, "He fears for your and for his unborn daughter." He smiled and nodded, "Yes, I know that you will have a daughter. Kaimar will get his own little princess like he always wanted, but onto more important matters. He is afraid he may lose you anyway if you rely on your magic. It is stronger than any because of what my beloved did for you, but you still have a long way to go before you can wield it as she did. He loves you so deeply, he is willing to sacrifice himself in your favour."....

Ella looks at Midas and says, "His way will cost him more than just his life. Giving into the fog makes it stronger. This in turn makes it easier for the fog to take the souls of others in the bloodline. He would be condeming his line to endless darkness. I have to be strong enough to end this cycle before more harm is done. Please help me explain it to him." She was having issues not starting to cry. She could not let him die. She just couldn't...

Midas smiled softly and kissed the side of her head again. He knew she wanted nothing more than to sob her heart out to him and she was trying not to. "Come now, Eleanor." He said to her, "Cry if that is what you wish to do. It does no harm to shed tears for those you love. As for Kaimar, look at it this way, my dear." He scooted her up to him and put his arm fully around her shoulder. "His sacrifice will not be in vain. The curse your ancestor levied on him had an unforeseen side effect. It made him immortal. He has lived for five centuries when he should have died long before the first. And, in being a willing victim to the fog, he will change everything about it. The demon's strength comes from its fear. It has never had a willing sacrifice because if it did and truly understood, it would know such a thing would destroy it. Kaimar doesn't know this, he knows only that he wants to save you from the fog. In doing so, he could very well destroy it before you have to lift a single finger. It will change him, certainly, but it will not kill him nor his love for you. How it will change him, I don't know, I've never seen or read about it, but whatever happens, I know your bond will survive and grow as it has done since the day you met.".....

Ella looks at him a moment as he explained the situation to her. Tears burst from her as she still did not understand why he should even risk it. She was scared for her love. She did not want him to get hurt. She says to him,"But what if he gets hurt? Or he becomes afraid to be near us after he faces the fog? I do not want him to withdraw from me or our daughter." She was also afraid it would change how they saw each other.

Midas put his arms around her and cuddled her. "Any injury, he will think is minor compared to keeping you safe." He told her, "As I would for my beloved." He then shook his head, "He will never shy away from you, either of you, not even if he's badly hurt. He will do everything to keep things as normal as possible for you both."

Ella looks at Midas a moment and starts to calm down once more. She says, "You are right. I am getting all stressed out for no reason. And that is not good for the baby." She hugs him gently and then goes back to the castle after putting a protection spell on the tomb just in case The Reaper tried to do something stupid. She could feel the fog coming and she knew her lover would panic if he knew she was out here when it arrived.

Midas nodded and faded away as she left again. He felt confident now that she would trust in Kaimar's judgement. Back at the palace, Chuck was waiting for Ella. He bowed his head to her and smiled, feeling that things were much better now. "Are you alright, my lady?" He asked....

Ella looks at Chuck and says, "I am fine. But the fog is coming back now. Everyone should be on guard." She wraps herself in a blanket as she makes her way to her chambers. She smiles some as she feels her body fighting the desire to destroy the fog. She was going to let her love do what he had to do. She had to trust in her lover's ability to do the right thing and be able to come back to her. She could not be able to smother him all the time.

Chuck smiled and nodded, but he still worried for her. He watched her go upstairs and then turned to the guards. He nodded to them and they nodded to him. They would protect the castle and the people inside.

Upstairs, in their bedroom, Kaimar sat on the bed with his mother's diadem in one hand and a simple plain gold ring in the other. Though he didn't want to accept it entirely, he felt in his soul that he would die in three days when the fog came for him at the death tree. Three days. It wasn't much, but it was enough for what he wanted to do. Even an hour would be enough, but he so desperately wanted Ella to be protected. When the door opened and Ella walked in, he looked up and slid off the bed to his knees. He tried to smile.

"I know that this is a lot less than what you deserve and a little less than what you wanted." He told her, but held up the crown and the ring to Ella, "But I thought you might appreciate the attempt anyway." He let her come to him and then took her hand in his. He slid the ring onto her finger and then kissed it. "For better or worse, in sickness and in health, until death do us part." He said quietly....

Ella looks at him a moment taking what he was doing. She smiled some and accepted the ring. She takes out the ring she got him for their wedding and slid it on his finger. She says, "For better or worse. In sickness and health, til death do us part and even beyond death I take you as my husband." Sure it was not a dream wedding, but it would have to do. She kisses him and says, "I am your wife for all time."

Kaimar got to his feet again and kissed her back before backing up a step and he carefully placed the crown on her head. Sure, she had been wearing it almost constantly since the day he'd first gave it to her, but this seemed important. She had to be recognised as the queen if any hope of law and order was to remain after his death. "And I am your husband for all eternity." He told her.....

Ella looks at him and wore the Diadem with pride as she had done since he first gave it to her. She could see the pain in his eyes. She says stroking his face and kisses him sweetly. "I am sure we can find a way my love. Please don't lose hope." She sits him on the bed and says as she rubs his shoulders and neck, "I love you so much. I am not willing to give up yet."
